I find it embarrassing as I'm not really pretty or young (40!) so feel I don't "deserve" that sort of attention, and also somehow it isn't appropriate for a middle aged mum of 2 boys IYSWIM. I somehow feel embarrassed if men look at me in that way.

Countbapula, I love Reiss dresses. I have a reiss skirt that has gone forever. It's very good quality and well cut. I'd hang onto it, you never know!

Becaroooo · 18/05/2011 10:45

Just bought a dress for £100 from a boutique where I live...its for a dear friends wedding in 2 weeks time, I also plan to take on my hols with me (you never know, dh and I may get to go out!) and I have another wedding later in the year which I plan to wear it for too.

I dont see the problem if you get plenty of wear out of it tbh...I bought a FABULOUS hat in 1997 - it cost about £100 BUT I love it and have worn it to so many weddings and loads of people have borrowed it too (the girl who is getting married soon wore it to my wedding actually!!)

upahill · 18/05/2011 10:47

Blimey Chandon why don't you talk yourself out of something!!! Grin

I am a 46 year old mother of 2 boys!! Nothing wrong with looking great!

Chandon · 18/05/2011 11:32

guess I am just shy, and prefer to "blend in" but that's hard anyway when your over 6 ft! Grin

I would love to buy at boutiques, like some of you do, but don't often come across any (country bumpkin)

Like Pagwatch am pleading the fifth on exactly how much Wink and agree it's worth spending more for quality which will last years.

Chandon Many boutiques are now on-line which opens up a whole new world of retail.

I love a bit of Retail Therapy it has lifted my mood on many an occasion. After a hard day in the office there is nothing like a stroll around Selfridges with my credit cards to put a spring in my step and a smile on my face.

NoSexInOurCity · 18/05/2011 14:17

That IS what I spent on my wedding dress Grin
All other dresses, no more than 100 quid certainly. I try on dresses that are way over my budget just for fun, then realise I haven't the occasion to wear them.

Most recently this, last weekend

sunshineatlast · 18/05/2011 15:55

£60
total cheapskate me.

CMOTdibbler · 18/05/2011 15:56

My most expensive was a Phase eight tapework dress, and it was well worth it. I've worn it to death for all sorts of occasions and it always looks gorgeous

brighthair · 18/05/2011 16:10

£130 on this dress (in black)

Fits like a dream, so flattering and timeless

I think about £180, someone had hurt my feelings, and I was attending a party later that week, which they would be at. I needed to feel amazing. I recall I got new shoes, a jacket and make-up to go with dress.

TheAllNewOoooh · 18/05/2011 17:17

Ooh, what did AmeliaP buy that was so expensive that MN had to delete it?

BunnyLebowski · 18/05/2011 17:26

Grin TheAllNewOooh

She was advertising a site she blatantly worked for. Popped up on 3 different S&B threads this afternoon so I reported the posts and MN deleted them.

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/05/2011 17:27

Hmmm don't think I've spent more than £250 on a dress - handbags more my thing.

Like Choo though I love a bit of retail therapy Wink and don't spend more than I can afford and although DH does work long hours - I don't shop to punish him - what a bizarre idea.

But you know - some people just like to be sniffy about how others spend their money where as I couldn't give a fig really. Smile

Carrie - hope you enjoy wearing your new dress.

barbie1 · 18/05/2011 17:42

About 650 uk pounds, on the most gorgeous DVF dress...which somebody caught their watch on and ripped it on the first wear Sad Another 50 pounds to restore it to new.

LTEC · 18/05/2011 17:43

oh well done Carrie - bet you look gorgeous.

I spend lots (of money) on dresses. Other people spend lots (of time and bitchy energy) coming on to MN to make pointed comments about what other people spend on dresses. I know which camp I'd rather be in. And my camp has a campfire, not an Aga Wink

PlumSykes · 18/05/2011 18:41

I wear dresses a lot, most is prob about £200-ish. I do think it's odd that so many people spend their most ever on a really dressy-dress to wear to a wedding, since it will prob get perhaps another one or two outings. I'd rather spend on stuff I wear every day, like a cashmere jumper for winter, or a really good jacket, and wear high street for weddings. To that end, I put back a £350 silk dress I fancied in the Prada sale outlet this weekend, and instead bought some trousers and a fine-knit top, which I will wear and wear. For the wedding I have at half term, I'll be in a Warehouse dress that I have already worn, that cost £45. Different strokes, different folks, I guess.

PlumSykes · 18/05/2011 18:42

Barbie! Eeek! So glad it was fixable. I love DVF.

TheOriginalFAB · 18/05/2011 18:51

DH bought me a dress from Monsoon years ago and it cost £99. Complete waste of money as I have worn it twice for about 15 minutes each. I kept it as couldn't bear the waste of throwing it out. Looked at it the other day and it had a tear in it so threw it out finally.

DH bought me another dress from Wallis which was £45 ish and that is much better.

JustAnother · 18/05/2011 19:09

about £250, but it is a dress that I wear for work and going out, so it definitely gets a lot of wear.

Sacharissa · 18/05/2011 19:12

£15. It was in a sale and was about £60 full price but I wouldn't have paid that.

I only spent £12 on my wedding dress! Grin
