100 squid on an Anglomania dress in the sale - I've had it just under a year and have probably worn it 20-25 times, so v v well worth it!

Just spent 70 on a White Company one, which I hope will get a similar level of wear.

Need a link to see what you bought! :)

carriedababi · 17/05/2011 19:05

oh good Grin

I bought this dress for a wedding last year - I got it for 45 pounds reduced from 70 which was a bargain I thought.

I love it, it's so flattering on and I got loads of compliments. That's the most I've ever spent on one item!

Bellebelle · 17/05/2011 19:37

£900 on a Gucci black silk strapless dress bought 8 years ago, was bought pre-marriage and DC's when I was young, reckless and with lots of disposable income.

I love it though, still wear it a few times a year at least and it looks like new.

Told DH how much it had cost a few years ago and after his initial disbelief he considered checking whether he should add it on to the house insurance Grin

HappyAsIAm · 17/05/2011 19:47

About £150 I think. But I'd have no problem spending £220 on a dress - I can afford it, and if I felt good in it, it would be well worth it to me. I'd probably pay more - definitely not £1,400 though it is an amazing dress! DH would need rescuscitating.

Of all the things you can spend money on (clothes wise), I williungly pay over the odds for swimwear, jeans and dresses. All things which will really make a difference to me if I get them right.

carriedababi · 17/05/2011 22:33

oh i love the red one

375 never again. Belly grew after pregnancy and never went back sufficiently yet it still lurks in my wardrobe and taunts me my purse and my non existent waste. Maybe I should make it into a scarf.

rockinout · 17/05/2011 22:37

Waist even

ChablisLover · 18/05/2011 10:03

I think the most expensive dress was £150 for DS christening.

Have bought an anglomania dress but it was in the sale - so wasn't the most expensive item

upahill · 18/05/2011 10:11

I bought tthis and I love it.
www.suzannah.com/dresses/party-dresses/aloof-dancer-party-dress-silver.aspx

I buy quite a lot from that site.

I also have quite a few Nicole Fahri dresses that have cots a couple of hundred each.

I normally look such a scruff in my day job ( waterproofs, Berhaus hoodies, ripped jeans that have seen better days etc) that people are amazed when they see me out of work!

BunnyLebowski · 18/05/2011 10:15

£160 on one of these Phase Eight <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=designerdresses.me.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Phase-Eight-Gigi-Tapework-Dress.jpg&imgrefurl=designerdresses.me.uk/phase-eight-gigi-tapework-dress/&usg=__9Oh_z2cVkzff_3LmVkTBjkS2oEs=&h=435&w=375&sz=34&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=LAdJ_DWxIlpzEM:&tbnh=154&tbnw=133&ei=9IzTTcGuMoOp8AO_u5XtCg&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dphase%2Beight%2Btapework%2Bdress%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1680%26bih%3D925%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=254&sqi=2&page=1&ndsp=54&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:0&tx=57&ty=43" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">tapework dresses in green and black.

It was a panic buy for a family wedding. I was 7 months pregnant and it was all I could find that flattered my bump. Unfortunately it was too long and grannyish (I was only 28) and it totally stumpified me. Just not my usual style at all.

Sold it on Ebay and only got £30 Sad

upahill · 18/05/2011 10:17

Oh I forgot!
I bought this for a wedding in June. It's an informal do at a local registry and a BBQ afterwards. (However looking at the weather my forementioned waterproods, berghaus hoodies etc may be more appropiate!!!)

worldgonecrazy · 18/05/2011 10:21

It was around £800 on a Gucci blue/black/purple print faux wrap dress. I wear it lots so the 'per wear' cost is quite low. I have a Missoni summer dress which is in pale pink and green, and that was around £800 too. The only expensive dresses I have bought that I haven't had the wear out of are some Diane Von Furstenberg ones. At the other end of the scale I have a New Look black shift dress that cost £12 and has also had lots of wear but is starting to look its age.

KristinaM · 18/05/2011 10:24

About 150 on an anglomania dress in the sales two years ago. I've worn it about 20 times since and I love it. Definitely better than three £50 dresses that I didn't really like. I am at the age when I need to follow the fewer but better quality mantra

I'm always amazed when I lurk on threads here and see how much some people spend on clothes. I had always assumed they were £££££££ so thought " oh well good luck to them, it's their money" . Then I read things like " now I've got my overdraft back down to within itslimit so I can go shopping again" Shock or " I've hidden my credit card statements and my shopping bags from my Dh"

I am also shocked at how many mumsnetters go shopping as some kind of therapy. Or worse still, to " punish" their partners for workiing away from home or long hours.

I don't mean a new lipstick or a pair of earrings to cheer you up. I mean dresses that cost £500 ++++.Surely the only reason to spend that much is if you REALLY love it and will wear it AND can afford it. To me that means not on credit or digging into your savings

I would feel terrible if we were struggling to pay bills at the end of the month just because I had been clothes shopping. There are so many people who are struggling because their income hardly covers their necessities Sad.

Chandon · 18/05/2011 10:25

i really want this dress:

www.delilahfashion.com/shop-Marilyn-Moore-10/Marilla-in-Scattered-Sq-10#

but it is about....200 pounds over budget

upahill · 18/05/2011 10:28

I love that dress Chandon.

(I'v put it on favourites and see how much I have left in the bank at the end of the week I think..........The kids won't mind beans on toast for a while, jam butties are ok too!!!!)

Chandon · 18/05/2011 10:31

Bunny, I got a similar tapework dress in green and black also, and I don't wear it too often as it is "too sexy", it highlights a small waist and big bum, which seems to be appreciated by many men (why is that? women always want small bottoms, don't we? Mine is quite Kim kardashianesque) I feel it is a bit obscene somehow. I wore it to a wedding and a party, and ended up getting chatted up by random blokes. Shock This NEVER happens to me so I blame the dress. Not sure if I'll wear it again, as I think it is a bit too sexy...

It is not too long on me as I'm 6ft.

Now am wondering if the same dress makes you feel like a granny, and me like a sex goddess (too much so), and how that is possible? Confused

Might sell mine on ebay too

KristinaM · 18/05/2011 10:35

How can you be too much like a sex goddess??. Fair enough if you are flashing too much flesh, as it can look a bit tarty. But it highlights your curves too much???. No such thing!!!!!!!!

CountBapula · 18/05/2011 10:35

About £120 on a black crepe belted, knee-length tulip-skirt, long-sleeved dress from Reiss. I wore it at least once a week for about a year and a half - it's incredibly elegant and comfortable. Doubt I'd fit into it now though, having had DS - otherwise I think it'd be one of those classic 'forever' dresses.

I'm only 5'4 Chandon and to be fair the only time I wore it I had a bump on me the size of belgium so I never got to appreciate the Kim Kardashian effect!!

Also once I had DD the dress was 2 sizes too big so again not so much hugging the curves as hanging off them like a fancy bin bag Grin

Would kill now for a dress that has the effect on men that yours does!

BunnyLebowski · 18/05/2011 10:40

kerrymumbles Dunnes have some gorgeous dresses in at the minute!

I'm in our local one every week (when I first moved here to England and realised there was a Dunnes I was delirious!) and have picked up 2 fab 50's style dresses and some 40's style red patent t-bar heels recently. All cheap as chips Grin

Pagwatch · 18/05/2011 10:42

Not saying.

But if I chose something really expensive it always lasts years and it is worth keeping to pass on to DD.

upahill · 18/05/2011 10:43

I daren't tell my mum how much I spend on dresses.
Last year I went shoppping and called in at mums.
I tired on two dresses.
1 was a Karen Millen one for £180 and the other was a Great Plains halter neck for £60.

Mum was so horrified that she rang me next day saying 'Upahill, I've been thinking, take them dresses back. Get your money refunded. I couldn't sleep last night thinking about how much they were!!

I had to try to convince her that I'm not excatly skint and I love the dressess.
