Over here all you 40s and fading!

OP posts:
sailorsgal · 10/05/2011 16:38

Sorry Billy, hope I never run into you in weymouth. Blush

sailorsgal · 10/05/2011 16:39

I was giving you a free plug though. Grin

Smallstuff · 10/05/2011 16:58

Gosh herbs, that sounds like a whole new level up from Shred.....
Was feeling quite virtuous what with shredding this am (before kids up) and then cleaning kitchen, two bathrooms and four bedrooms all before lunch. Unfortunately have been hoovering up kids chocolate Easter eggs ever since..... Hum may be self defeating.
I ache ALL OVER and feel quite faint with the thought of doing it all again tomorrow..... (that's the Shred not eating choccy which I could quite happily do again!!)

Swedes2 · 10/05/2011 17:00

I've just caught up. LOL at you all.

Noddy, I think I'd have to go into the witness protection scheme if I was required to attend a school meet-up at short notice. I'd need to clear the diary for about 3 months while I decided what to wear.

Herbaceous - How lovely to be in a choir. Every night after a story, we sing DS3 (3) a couple of songs, we've done this since he was teeny. Last night I was doing baths, stories and songs as DH was playing in a tennis match. After I'd launched into Bobby Shaftoe, DS3 said: "I want daddy to sing the songs when he comes back from tennis."

Sailorsgal - thanks for the details about that bootcamp. I'm seriously interested in doing that.

BIWI - Boots currently have that stuff on 3 for 2 at boots online. I think I'm going to get some and I need some hormones I think. I had horrible night sweats last night.

FellatioNelson · 10/05/2011 17:10

cyb which strength of strips did you buy? the professional ones? Do they make your teeth hurt? The trouble with mine is that I have a very visible band of tetracycline staining across both top and bottom sets, near the gum line, and therefore the colour will always be somewhat uneven - I'll end up practically glow in the dark whiteness on the end of the teeth before the root end gets to an acceptable colour. Shock

If cosmetic dentistry had existed much in this country when I was younger I'd have had veneers but I think it's too late now. They'll just look like dentures. Hmm

Al0uiseG · 10/05/2011 17:21

I have a kit from the dentist that I fill with toxic teeth whitening stuff and then sleep in. That used to be fine but after 2 hours these days my teeth feel very sensitive, so on the dentists advice I fill the tray with toothpaste and sleep in that. My teeth have never been whiter! We don't need toxic stuff just whitening toothpaste in a mouthguard.

motherinferior · 10/05/2011 18:24

I have been sitting in a friend's garden drinking gin and eating salted cashew nuts at FIVE IN THE AFTERNOON Blush Blush Blush

In my defence I'd just had a knockback about a feature I pitched, and another friend there has a husband who is very ill and well we were all feeling fed up.

I have rejoined a choir too. And keep trying to pitch feature on how good singing is for you but nobody wants it.

Swedes2 · 10/05/2011 18:38

Alousieg - Ah interesting. I have a bespoke rubber guard that I used to fill with some v expensive gel gunk (though it's probably neat domestos whizzed up with a bit of geletine) which I get from my v expensive dentist. But ouch at the sensitive teeth for a few days afterwards. I might try whitening toothpaste.

Motherinferior - Sorry about the pitch.

Smallstuff · 10/05/2011 18:38

I went to a choir for the first time last night too!, is this an age thing then?!?!
Mine was seven ladies of indeterminate age. But we belted out some oldies and goodies such as queens I want to break free and Yazoo Only You....
Twas fun, shall be going back. They do performances eek no where to hide when there is so few of you!!

CointreauVersial · 10/05/2011 18:41

It wasn't Rock Choir, was it? There's something very.....menopausal....about that lot.

Smallstuff · 10/05/2011 18:43

No just. Local singing teacher and the only people who have turned up so far!! They do some boring stuff too!!!

mittenkitten007 · 10/05/2011 18:50

Sorry about the pitch Mother Inferior. I had two rejected a week and a half ago and felt crap and have used that as an excuse not to pitch since.

You may have already thought of this, but have you tried pegging the singing pitch to the continuing popularity of Glee?

Blackduck · 10/05/2011 19:03

well singing is one thing I won't be doing - tone deaf!
Have done hip stretches and feels a lot better so hopefully can get back to C25K.

pointydog · 10/05/2011 19:07

If you're joining choirs left, right and centre, just watch out. My sil (in 50s) goes to choirs and she now sings unaccompanied at christmas, old dirges about lovers dying in wars. I have to fight the urge to laugh.

Smallstuff · 10/05/2011 19:09

I'll give my family permission to shoot me if I start doing that!!

pointydog · 10/05/2011 19:16

Puts a bit of a downer on the christmas frivolities, as you can imagine.

herbaceous · 10/05/2011 19:43

Oh lord. My DP's family has a tendency to do that, but in an Irish kind of way, which is somehow less embarrassing.

Not sure if choirs are crepey. I was in a harmony accapella group a few years ago and LOVED it, but had to leave when we moved house. The one I'm in now is much more classical, and much bigger, and I'd love to find a small one again.

Where's yours, smallstuff?? And do they need any more sopranos?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 10/05/2011 20:40

I'm in a small choir - I'm an alto (can't get the high notes any more). Ours is pretty crepey, although our Leader drafts in her stunningly beautiful and talented daughters when we perform so it sounds like we can sing.

thenightsky · 10/05/2011 21:17

Seriously thinking of bootcamp, as long as it's female only. Downside... I just googled mapped to find Weymouth. Its a five and half hour drive Sad

HouseOfBamboo · 10/05/2011 21:23

Shock at the Christmas dirge solos. Please tell me it's at least drink related, and she doesn't do this sober (or worse, while everyone else is sober).

Stropperella · 10/05/2011 21:48

Blimey, this thread has come along a bit since the last time I looked in. Funny to find you have moved on to choirs. I joined a choir last year for the first time since school. Have now joined the local show choir, but the problem is I like rehearsing but not performing. I don't like to flap my bingo wings in public...

Stropperella · 10/05/2011 21:51

Hmm. Military bootcamp. That doesn't sound very nice. I'm very local to Weymouth but won't be going. If anyone else goes I'll come and cheer them on, though. From my deckchair - with a glass of wine and some peanuts.

sailorsgal · 10/05/2011 21:53

stroperella think I'll join you.

Stropperella · 10/05/2011 22:08

:)

herbaceous · 10/05/2011 22:09

Shall we form a crepey choir? We could be sponsored by menoleve, and sport some lovely sleeves.
