not getting the film reference Confused I'll post it on recipes otherwise it'a a bit of a thread hijack. Not that usually stops us Alouiseg. Grin

Al0uiseG · 07/05/2011 21:00

I may change my name to "Jack" so that you can say Hi "Jack" and naturalise the thread. :o

wilbur · 07/05/2011 22:13

Herbaceous - Stepford Wives, yes? Also, re painted ferns - they are perennial so they die off in winter but then ping up again, bless them, every spring. And mine are in a tiny desert under a massive magnolia grandiflora which has clearly sucked the life out of the surrounding area.

Also fancy duck salad recipe.

And MI (now I have read this whole new thread), you are SO not a hippo, tiny or no.

HouseOfBamboo · 07/05/2011 23:15

Home-made curry here tonight - on the plus side I spent most of the afternoon on my feet tripping around the kitchen cooking it. On the minus side, while cooking it I drank most of a bottle of some shitey low-alcohol 5% fizzy wine that someone had bought by accident. Then went on to proper wine while eating.

Though I'd live on lettuce leaves and grilled grasshoppers all day rather than give up my evening wine.

Haven't tried the Shred DVD - got as far as ordering a Mr Motivator one, but haven't actually managed to undo the cellophane yet. Rubbish but true.

Hully - I can't let your 'swimming is actually very bad for you' comment go by without guffawing. Do you know, I think in so many ways you are right. I hate swimming.

herbaceous · 08/05/2011 10:13

Wilbur: 10 points.

As for plants, we're off to the farmers' market soon (to buy a chicken for £12), so will look out for ferny delights on the plant stall.

Post chilli I seem to have regained three of the four pounds I 'lost' since Tuesday. Knew it was too good to be true!

motherinferior · 08/05/2011 10:14

Wilbur Grin - check out Wallis/Kew/Dorothy Perkins (this last amazes me as a suggestion but I thought there was some rather nice stuff online. Am holding self back from purchasing black cotton dress with lemons and oranges printed on it.

I have swum again.

noddyholder · 08/05/2011 10:21

Still walking and eating healthily. Stayed up all night friday as I just couldn't sleep and look and feel horrific now even though I did sleep last night. Does anyone else find they only sleep 5-6 hrs now> I need more but can't seem to stop my inner alarm which is set to 545am no matter what!

Swedes2 · 08/05/2011 10:43

M&S Autograph dark indigo jeans/Lee Cooper navy canvas lace-ups/Hobbs/Harpenden sounds so middle aged and horrible compared with Cyb's harem/wedge/whistles combination. Harrumph.

kc0rns1lk · 08/05/2011 11:17

I've ran either round the park or at the gym 5 times this week - can't believe it! Still haven't weighed myself but if I haven't lost a few pounds now I'm going to be having a word with mother nature

kc0rns1lk · 08/05/2011 11:19

wow cyb FCUK are for waifs so size 12 is positively svelte

moondog · 08/05/2011 11:28

You're right MI.
There are some lovely dresses on Dotty P's site.
I love this but fear I am too old to wear it.

garlicbutter · 08/05/2011 11:37

I'd wear that! I'm much older than you and have wrinkly bingo wings, even Shock
It's a sundress. You wouldn't get much Vitamin A in a burqa.

kc0rns1lk · 08/05/2011 11:52

oh I've seen that one linked before moondog - it's lovely

BecauseImWorthIt · 08/05/2011 12:10

That's lovely, moondog - but I'm puzzled as to why you think you would be too old to wear it?

I have just been for my first walk. I'm frustrated that I'm restricted to this, rather than getting going on the C25K, but at least I got off the sofa/my arse and did it.

Went up to Wimbledon common which was lovely - walked round one of the ponds where there were loads of tadpoles.

I've thought about cycling, but my bike is very neglected and probably/certainly will have to have some serious work done on it before it's rideable.

herbaceous · 08/05/2011 12:14

No doubt you've all been agog: the farmers market DID have a painted fern! Plus a heuchera (or something) and a geranium that survives all conditions. Plus an £11 chicken.

KristinaM · 08/05/2011 12:36

geranuim phaem likes shade

hope that chicken tastes good. at least you know it had a good life

herbaceous · 08/05/2011 12:53

That's what I figure. The last one from there was delicious, and made three meals: roast, salad and risotto, plus stock. Though such flurries of domesticity are few and far between.

wilbur · 08/05/2011 13:18

Have looked at the oranges and lemons dress, MI, and think you would look fab in it. They do have some lovely things - I like Moondog's green dress too, love a bit of broderie.

Have added a collection of interesting scratches to my age-spotted hands this morning by trying to tame a rambling rose, so they look super nice now. Oh for the days when my self-destructive behaviour was limited to drugs and alcohol.

Finallygotaroundtoit · 08/05/2011 13:43

Herbaceous how is JM's Burn Fat DVD on the arms/wrists?

I have the Shred but due to arthritis in wrists already struggle with push ups in 1&2 - have looked at level 3 and really don't think all those plank moves are doable for me.

Does Burn Fat contain as much weight bearing on arms?

herbaceous · 08/05/2011 13:47

Hi Finally - not really sure. I only did three of the seven circuits, and haven't even dared look at most of the others. Circuit four had moving planks, and those torso twist horrors, but have yet to come across any horrors. I can't bend my hands all the way back, so do such things on my fists. Would that help?

cyb · 08/05/2011 13:48

Huzzah have lost another pound

wilbur · 08/05/2011 14:54

Well done, cyb. Onwards and downwards, eh?

herbaceous · 08/05/2011 15:42

What with memory failure, cyb, I can't remember what it is you're doing to induce such weight loss. Are you a C25Ker? A low-carber? A shredder?

Egads. Four people are coming round for dinner at 6, but after more brisk planting action in the garden, all I want to do is lie on the sofa and have a snooze.

CointreauVersial · 08/05/2011 15:49

I'm just loving the flashes of gardening advice on this thread, amidst all the laments about bingo wings and gunt shelves.

Or am I missing some little in-joke, with "sparse growth in shady places" being some sort of menopausal metaphor? Hmm

More feel-old moments from the last two days: DD2 (age 7) asked me this morning, while I was getting dressed, why my boobs were "all dangly". And DD1 (age 9) said, in a very loud voice in the middle of Millets - "Mum, I've just noticed what you're wearing. That skirt is hideous; you look about 90 years old." Cue snigger from spotty oik behind the counter.

cyb · 08/05/2011 16:33

herbie I'm a 'stop eating the crap' er

Not really exercising as much as I should

trying to change eating habits long term really as penny has finally dropped I cant eat what I want ALL the time and I'm not Giselle Graham
