scales are evil

Goodness . . . I return after a week away and there is a whole new thread that's already half full! How many of us are doing the C25K now?

Anyway, look like absolute hell at the moment and this has led me to realize my skin is actually getting THINNER. Tried to find out why this is so (ageing, yes, but -- why?) and it seems it's related to lower testosterone. Can't do anything about that so have ordered some emu oil and promise to report my results.

herbaltea - you can cope with that with contact lenses. You can have varifocal lenses or something that's called monovision - where you have one lens that deals with close reading and the other that deals with distance vision.

Go and ask your optician about it.

kerry - as DH had a vasectomy some years ago I keep telling myself not to worry. But it was hard to start with! I kept worrying that maybe his tubes had somehow reconnected themselves.

Blackduck · 07/05/2011 13:53

No run here today - couldn't get out of bed. Has been a tough week emotionally and I think I crashed last night. Will try tomorrow....and bloody yoga cancelled as teacher didn't show ..... off to do ds's party in a bit. 14 manic 8 year olds (fun) and I doubtless will eat too many crisps and stuff....

generalhaig · 07/05/2011 18:09

is it too late to join?? 48 (eek, how did that happen) last week, 3 dc and body to prove it ... have just bought some new trainers so WILL start C25K this week - I cycle quite a bit and swim a couple of times a week but am gradually creeping up to a BMI of 25 and I know once I pass that mark it'll all be downhill ...

kc0rns1lk · 07/05/2011 18:14

been to the gym but also had a big mac meal and cake

WhatsWrongWithYou · 07/05/2011 18:22

Herbaltea my eyes are uncannily like yours I think. Childhood squint left the right eye underdeveloped so I don't really use it although it looks perfectly straight.

Have worn glasses for short sight since my early twenties. I now have to lift the specs to see anything close up, have done since I was 42 (nearly 6 years). I do wear contact lenses on the rare occasion I go out for the evening, but can't read the menu. I should really get reading glasses to go with the lenses - kind of defeats the object though. Sad

Maybe I'll try variexpensivesfocals again, although last time I found myself still raising them to see, as I had to crane my neck in a funny way to use the close focus lens, so they were a complete waste of money.

herbaceous · 07/05/2011 18:32

So far I've managed to escape any visual aids, but as I find myself taking packets of food 'into a good light' to read the instructions, and doing something odd and old with my mouth while I read them, I fear some reading glasses aren't far away.

Had a smashing day in the garden today, planting my perennials, and doing protracted battle with an ancient honeysuckle that has taken over the garden. I ripped so much of it from one bush, it's kind of collapsed. I think the honeysuckle was holding it together. I'm sure that's a metaphor for something or other.

On the downside, had been feeling all pleased for losing 4lb, but caught sight of my still very apparent muffin top in a shop window, and felt rather deflated.

Jillian Michaels' 'Burn Fat Boost Metabolism' arrived the other day. Crikey o riley. Did three of the seven circuits, and could barely move. It's a contender to the shred for quick results, though, I'd say.

cyb · 07/05/2011 18:42

Trotted into Richmond today wearing high platform sandals which made me feel thinner and younger so double points. Unfortunately whilst trying on some harem trousers in Whistles I stumbled backwards off my platform and nearly fell backwards out of the curtain onto the shop floor.

not very Richmond behaviour

Am channelling Jennifer Anistons new hair

wilbur · 07/05/2011 18:52

Oh, I found you all at last - was thinking I would wander, fadingly, around MN until I really was post-menopausal.

And I had a recommendation for shady areas in gardens (Japanese painted ferns, gorgeous and indestructible it seems) but things have clearly moved on.

I have ordered a Jillian Michaels Shred dvd - we have a tv in our bedroom for the first time ever so I can at least puff and groan in private. Waistline feeling very flubby after a mini break with dh and too much food (bad) but lots of walking (good).

Am also looking for a new summer dress that I can wear to work. Where do you look for something that is not too structured, not a shirt dress and not a floaty mess?

FellatioNelson · 07/05/2011 18:59

cyb I'm so jealous of you. That last post made you sound like such a sophisticate. Just the sound of those words: Richmond, Whistles, high platforms and harem pants, is making me get a tickly tummy feeling.

Blackduck · 07/05/2011 19:02

Party over -12 sweaty, tired children handed back in one piece. Ds flopped on floor watching horrible histories. Take away beckons (not good I know, but will avoid wine.....)

Al0uiseG · 07/05/2011 19:17

I'm the opposite to Blackduck, I'll eat healthily but I'm not giving up the wine :o

Blackduck · 07/05/2011 19:21

I usually do the healthy, but cant be arsed tonight :) Wine has to go - too many empty calories :)

herbaceous · 07/05/2011 19:22

Wilbur - I'm still in need of advice for my dry shady area (fnurk) so shall be stocking up on Japanese painted ferns! Just googled and they look just the ticket. I mistakenly bought a skimmia, golden coloured: it turns out to be totally wrong, liking full sun at all times.

As for food, instead of a take-away curry, which was my first choice, we're having chilli, cooked by DP, made with chorizo and lardons. With guacamole on the side. And some wine. So probably just as bad as a cuz, really. Still, my gardening was very vigorous!

FellatioNelson · 07/05/2011 19:25

I'm the same A. I can manage without bread, potatoes, cakes etc, but I guard my evening drinkies jealously and I will only forego them in extreme circumstances of driving or weight loss need.

Then again, that might be why I've been in deep ketosis for three days but have put on a pound. Hmm Grin

So how is your gin career coming along? It's a better bet than wine when LCing. Are you devoted to it yet?

Al0uiseG · 07/05/2011 19:48

Gin and I are indelibly linked, however I'm having a wine night this evening as I made your divine duck salad and Just Knew it went well with wine. So while MrG is almost dying from being poisoned by sesame seeds (which I subbed for peanuts) I am throwing down Macon Village at an alarming rate. Along with 2 squares of Green & Blacks.

I'm also very jealous of Cyb and her harem/wedge/whistles/Richmond combo!!! Skinnies/ballets/FrenchConnection/Colchester just doesn't have the same ring to it.

FellatioNelson · 07/05/2011 19:51

Ah, well that's interesting, because I am having a wine night as well, accompanied by your wedge salad (again!) I can't stop making it. It's perfect low carb supper.

Al0uiseG · 07/05/2011 19:53

Haha! Great (underused) minds!

cyb · 07/05/2011 19:53

Fellation and Alouise PLEASE dont feel green in any way. I failed to included the rank MArks sarnie eaten on the green, the Grace Brothers Emporium that Dickens and Jones has turned into or all the horsey blonde types tripping out of Joules

BUT there was some drama, a crowd had gathered to watch a swarm of bees that had made their home on the front window of Reiss being removed by 2 bee keepers in all their gear. Twas vey exciting!

Ooh also managed to fit into size 12 FCUK trews. (waits for someone to say their sizes are MASSIVE)

Al0uiseG · 07/05/2011 19:57

FCUK are definitely NOT massive. They are known for being skimpy on sizing. I thought Dickens & Jones had gone entirely!!! I didn't realise that they were in Richmond. (informs Mother who still laments their moving passing)

herbaceous · 07/05/2011 20:48

Can the duck salad recipe become public knowledge? I'll simply die if I don't have that recipe (spot the film reference...).

As for my most recent shopping experience, it was decidedly downmarket: sainsburys converse-alikes/baggy jeans/peacocks/Walthamstow.
