I haven't as yet submitted to the full beard and elasticated waistband trousers. But heck, it's hard isn't it? I absolutely love clothes, make-up, and all that shit.... but I am becoming more and more interested in my garden (not a euph). Last night I went to the garage to buy milk in my gardening clothes.

Anyone else going through the same thing? Have you any tips you can share?

is it really Thursday? Confused

LadyCornyOfSilk · 28/04/2011 15:48

I thought it was Wednesday

herbaceous · 28/04/2011 15:55

That reminds me of the old joke...

Two old ladies (or, indeed, us) in a car, going through north London.
Old lady 1: 'This is Wembley'
OL2: 'No it's not, it's Thursday'
OL1: 'So am I. Let's go and have a drink.'

cyb · 28/04/2011 15:58

I thought it was Friday

LadyCornyOfSilk · 28/04/2011 16:07

Don't say I've missed the wedding!

BIWI - well done on the run but sorry about the leg.

Did you stretch before you warmed up? That's a no, no. Warm up, then a gentle stretch then run, then cool down then deeper stretches at the end.

Take it gently; it'll be fine. It's not your age, just that your muscles are not used to the work.

Moondog - exercise has not improved the situation in the bedroom department. That's a dirty lie Wink

Like Moondog - I roughly know my distance based on time, but at the beginning I used to clock it in the car. When you're up to running a bit further and are looking to improve the distance, I find it helpful to get dh to drop me off and I run home. It's a mental thing always running home because the 'out' part of an out and back run can be tough.

moondog · 28/04/2011 18:15

I couldn't possibly say more on ... intimate matters Saggar.
Never have on MN.
Or anywhere else for that matter.

Wink
moondog · 28/04/2011 18:16

Yes, my father always used to get my mother to drop him somewhere far and then run home. Big psychological advantage.

I do that too but as dh away often have bemused taxi drivers dropping me in the middle of nowhere, wearing very little.

BecauseImWorthIt · 28/04/2011 18:22

Well leg is a lot better - have basically just been lying on the sofa all day! It's still not right though, so will leave it until the end of tomorrow before I decide if I'm going running on Saturday.

Saggars - I think you're right, it was probably stretching when cold, and it was also quite cold this morning as well - even after my brisk walk it was still cool. I should have done some stretching then, but the podcast instructions are to go from the walk into the run. Will know better next time.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 28/04/2011 18:34

TBH I rarely stretch before - walk a bit - run - walk - stretch.

Glad it's a bit better. I've 'rested' today (chance would be a fine thing Hmm) am doing 4 miles in the morning.

BecauseImWorthIt · 28/04/2011 18:39

4 miles?!

Hope that goes well!

Actually I even had a snooze on the sofa this afternoon, which was an unexpected bonus.

moondog · 28/04/2011 18:41

I don't botherb with stretchin easier.
Read a piece of research recently which ocncluded it was a waste of time as i have always suspected.

Mind you, am quite fit anyway.
Obviously not good to throw oneself into pounding the pavements straight off if not fit/used to exercise.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 28/04/2011 18:45

I've got to go out and run early now as my friend just called to say they're having a wedding 'breakfast' and are expecting me at 9 [cshock] i was just going to watch them arrive at church and then the balcony bit later. It appears they're in for the long haul. [bunting]

Smallstuff · 28/04/2011 18:48

Hi all aching VV badly from Hannah Waterman on Tues.... still awaiting Shred DVD
on the matter of trying something new I collected and drove home our new trailer today. And managed to fit the jockey wheel to it (with the help of next door neighbours spanners!). And I then loaded it with all our camping gear... does that count...altho I did drive like an old woman!!
Hope that counts as exercise as I am pooped and won't be doing anything else today.... up early tomorrow to set off for 4 days of camping in Suffolk...
Will try to eat well ish... but I always eat too much when living outdoors as it kind of feels like I have done exercise when all I have really done is knock a few pegs in!!! Altho will be burning more cals trying to stay warm in this wind chill!!!
I don't drink alcohol and that may account for not being too overweight... but I have put on about 3/4 stone over the last year and want to stop it creeping up any further.
Once BHs over with will be back to exercising... promise...but not C25k tried that and was sooo bad at it...its the breathing for me.... when Robert says 'you should be able to hold a conversation whilst doing this' I can't even shout at him as I have so little breath!!!! And thats running as slow as I can to still count as more than walking!! Aerobics I can do tho... plus no baby sitter required for a DVD!!

midnightexpress · 28/04/2011 18:53

BTW all, if any of you are yoga people (and if not, why not?), the Yoga Today website is great. It used to all be free but you now have to subscribe but the classes are great, and suit different levels of practice. I think they do a few free classes still - one a week, maybe (I haven't been on for ages).

here

BecauseImWorthIt · 28/04/2011 20:49

moondog - how much more easily could I have taken it?!

Tuesday was 4 x 1 minute runs, each interspersed with 1.5 minutes of walking; today was 8 x 1 minute runs, interspersed with 1.5 minutes of walking.

Yes, I know I'm unfit - which is precisely why I'm doing this. What else do you suggest?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 28/04/2011 21:10

There's nothing wrong with doing a bit less - you'll be surprised at how quickly you'll build up strength and stamina.

Maybe you tried to increase things too quickly - my understanding of the C25K is that you spend about a week on each phase at the beginning.

I know last time I tried running, it only took about 3 weeks to get up to a 20 min run - and half of that was uphill by necessity as we're surrounded by hills here.

And for me, I was so chuffed to be actually running, if only for a couple of minutes at a time to start with, I didn't care if it would be seen as minimal by DH a fitness expert. You honestly will find yourself building it up, but there's absolutely no need to push things. HTH. Smile

mittenkitten007 · 28/04/2011 21:20

Saw myself in a three-way mirror today for the first time in a while. I used to be an apple when I put on weight but it's all gone pear-shaped . . . geddit?!!!!?!?

Wilbur your post made me laugh as I used to consider myself something of a raver as well and know what you mean about the bling, etc. Kids today . . .
