Have we had a thread to guess Kate's dress yet?

I'm so excited. I don't give a stuff about the pomp and ceremony and I won't be waving any flags or doing 'knees up Mother Brown' with my neighbours but I really want to talk about the dress. I think I know in my head what it will be like and I hope she doesn't let me down. It needs to be just the right amount of elegant/trad/plain, but with a cheeky soupcon of sexpot.

Let's play guess Katie's dress please.

That is lovely fellatio.

Off the shoulder looks so much more stylish than strapless.

let's be honest, Kate could wear a £300 frock from berketetx and would look stunning.

GetOrfMoiLand · 03/04/2011 01:19

DM link to possible designer, Temperley

GetOrfMoiLand · 03/04/2011 01:19

me no likey

beijingaling · 03/04/2011 01:26

Definitely not sleeveless. Look in tatler- very few wedding dresses are sleeveless and afaik it's seen as deeply chavvy. I suspect it would not be thought of as appropriate either in the same way you cant show your arms in the vatican.

I can't wait!

OllieWollieWoo · 03/04/2011 07:43

Ahh - according to the DM, Kate will change into a second outfit for the evening reception. My guess is that one will be stunning and strapless and that the wedding down will be demure with have long sleeves - like Lady Sarah Armstrong Jones here or Courtney Cox here. I loved CC's.
(I am giving this way too much thought!)

OrangeBernard · 03/04/2011 08:06

Math those ones are spot on

FellatioNelson · 03/04/2011 09:06

They are both beautiful Ollie - Katie could def. do that Vionnet/Chanel very fluid 30's bias cut type thing like Courtney's but in a way I hope she doesn't as it seems a wasted opportunity for something more ground-breaking. Plus the thought of the average hefty Joanna wanting to copy that Courtney dress is terrifying.

I looked at that AT site too GOML and I was disappointed. They are all very barefoot and Midsummer Night's Dream aren't they? I can't see her turning up to Westminster Abbey with a daisy chain on her head.

Something to emphasise her fabulous neat waist.
She's elegant and chic and no "dolly bird" so probably not a frothy meringue type.

Not the one on the front page - click on complete collection. There is one that looks a bit Wallis Simpson which is nice.

I am giddy with excitement about what Kate will wear! Giddy I tell ya! I was 6 when Di got married in a crumpled mess and I still think I'm a princess, despite my life of picking up manky socks and walking dogs.

Anyway, I think sleeves but lacey, I think a wrapped bodice in homage to her engagement dress, I think a full skirt as she'll be going fluid and fitted in the evening. I think she'll also have a nod to previous Queens dresses so I wouldn't be at all surprised to have a high elizabethan style collar. She and her mother are very very aware that this is the wedding dress not just of a princess but of our future Queen so I think it'll have some historical style references to it to reflect that.

FellatioNelson · 03/04/2011 09:53

swoon

I'm still not finding much like I had in my mind's eye (slimfitted satin skirt, slitghtly bustley overskirt with long train, and very fitted brocade/lace bodice with long tight fitting sleeves) but I'm warming to the idea of a very drapey thirties thing. so few people can wear it, but she can.

Oh FFS. Why can;t I link an actual page? Angry

Go to robes des mariees. 'longues' and it's called Agapan. Long puff sleeves.

looks like a nightdress.

NO.

FellatioNelson · 03/04/2011 10:23

At last! here it's the one halfway down, entitled 50's hobble skirted dress. Luffly.

OP posts:
mrmistoffelees · 03/04/2011 11:23

I think she would suit this kind of style but maybe not quite so plain.

stylenotfashion · 03/04/2011 11:28

I think she loves her slim hips so I suspect it may be fitted to hip level then big skirt-a-go-go.

mrmistoffelees · 03/04/2011 11:44

I love quite a few of the 50s style dresses on the Vintagedress site. So much nicer than all the strapless, big skirted dresses everyone seems to wear now. HalfpennyLondon has some stunning dresses and I love the vintage dresses on The Vintage Wedding Company site.

Hope Kate goes for something a bit different but vintage looking, I love 1950s style.

mrmistoffelees · 03/04/2011 11:46

Oops, should be [[http://www.halfpennylondon.com/bridal/ HalfpennyLondon]]

Pinkjenny · 03/04/2011 12:18

The last one math linked to is my absolute favourite. Am hoping she goes with McQueen. I am almost hyperventilating with excitement. And I'm not at all offended that my wedding dress was strapless because it was beautiful defensive

I am considering sending the dc to MIL for the day of so that I can, you know, concentrate.

FellatioNelson · 03/04/2011 12:21

It's not that I hate strapless gowns - some of them are indeed beautiful. I'm just ^desperate for a change. They have been so ubiquitous for so many years now it has gone beyond a joke.

I love that Vintage site Fellatio

I always liked Monica's wedding dress from Friends here - this isn't brilliant picture of it, but it is lovely.

Courteney Cox's wedding dress in RL is beautiful - however I think she is too thin in it. There is a Friends series (series 6 iirc) where she is terribly gaunt, think it was when she got married.
