Been and had my botox injections in my number 11's so now will wait and see.

Was very nervous but the nurse put me at ease and it was over in no time.

OP posts:
noddyholder · 01/04/2011 21:07

Haha I have never been so popular what about all my charity work and animal welfare surely that is worth more than botox Wink

cybbo · 01/04/2011 21:09

ha nodders I knew your botox klaxon would go off

noddyholder · 01/04/2011 21:13

Really weird dp just said to me about ten mins ago when are you going back for more?

TattyDevine · 01/04/2011 21:19

I had mine done yesterday, hadn't had it since last July. Was meant to go in November but didn't then December I got pneumonia and am only just getting well - you can't have it if on antibiotics apparently as it can react (or if nothing else the antibiotics can "kill" it)

I'm alread noticing my forehead smoothing out, should be pretty sorted by the end of the weekend.

Me and my botox doc have just the right amount worked out now, I used to not get long enough in my glabellar (frown lines between the eyebrows) but we've worked out the right amount without looking frozen. I can do a worried/concerned or exasperated look but without it actually pushing the flesh together so much that a wrinkle occurs, if that makes sense! I get my forehead done too, and can still look surprised and smile etc but without it creasing up, my eyebrows go up a little more at the outer corners but not enough to have a vulcan brow, I quite like the lift it gives, its one of the things I like about botox the most actually - that effect doesn't suit all faces, it depends a bit what your eyebrows do anyway I think.

I'm really pleased with it, I do think there are a lot of myths and misconceptions about botox out there. Some of the celebs with their really streched looking foreheads and bunny lines on their nose really give it a bad name.

cybbo · 01/04/2011 21:21

Yes i have to say my eye brows are already quite vulkanesque so i dont want that to get any worse

Am not telling my H though

noddyholder · 01/04/2011 21:25

I agree tatty I have found it subtle but effective. I still have the remnants of lines butso faded like in my early 30s. It just has made make upnand hair etc a pleasure again

noddyholder · 01/04/2011 21:26

Cyb my dp would never have noticed my mum didn't,t know then I told her and she started going on about Jordan blah blah

MrsCampbellBlack · 01/04/2011 21:27

I didn't tell anyone but my sister for ages.

TattyDevine · 01/04/2011 21:32

I haven't told anyone in "real life" - even my husband doesn't know, I haven't told him and he hasn't said anything

TheBolter · 01/04/2011 21:34

Can I ask a few questions - I'm thinking of having it done.

1.Am I too young at 35?

  1. I have a few light lines on my forehead and between my brows at all times, and wrinkles at the sides of my eyes when I smile. These are starting to show more often, not just when I smile. Where and how much should I have done?
  1. If I start to have it done now, how often will I have to keep it up?

THanks! Smile

JeremyVile · 01/04/2011 21:37

So how does the vulcan-lift happen then?

I'm not wrinkled but would like to be more vulcan-like.

I just cant work out how the botox acheives it though, because I can make my eyebrows do it by tensing the muscles round the upper eye so how would paralysing the muscles give the same effect?

noddyholder · 01/04/2011 21:43

I have had a slight kick to the outer brow too v v slight not sure how it happened! I have noticed that although it has been months now and I can completely move my forehead and need to go back my forehead is certainly a lot less lined than before. I think the more you have it the less you need.

TattyDevine · 01/04/2011 21:44

Bolter:

  1. No, perfect age to start thinking about it - its the kind of age where these things start to potentially bother one, yet not so much damage that you think, what's the point!
  1. The where and how much should really be something you discuss with the doctor who does it - they will hold the answers to these questions but should discuss your expectations with you and explain the various results you might hope to achieve with various treatment options. Most will charge per "treatment area" though and it sounds like you will need 2 treatment areas done and that usually starts around £250 - I'd be suspicious of anywhere that charges less, perhaps with the exception of the type of "new client" scenario as described in the OP
  1. If you have it done, expect to have it done again every 4-6 months. A lot of people find their Glabellar (between their eyebrows) wears off before their forehead.

I dont plan on having Botox beyond my mid to late 40's. They say it can start to look a bit weird and make too stark a contrast between, say smooth forehead and perhaps jowly jawline when those other things start to happen. There apparently comes a time where it can be better to just let it go and let your forehead etc start to match the other ageing parts of your face, but you will look better for having had 10 or 15 years of little activity in these areas, and you will always look better than if you never had the botox in your 30's and 40's, because less damage will have occured.

I also think when you hit your late 40's it may start to become more and more obvious that you have had botox, for the reasons described above, really.

I see it as something that will delay the process a bit, buy a bit of extra time where you get to put a pause button on the process, but the process must eventually be accepted and embraced.

The absolute best resuts of botox happen in your 30's, they say, (and probably early 40's) - I read an article about this and tend to agree. I'll try and find a link.

Its easy to say of course, now. But I'd like to think when it all starts to move on a bit to the next level, its time to move on and focus on looking good for your new age...

noddyholder · 01/04/2011 21:49

I am 46 in November. No one noticed I had had it but just thought I looked really well. I am not jowly at all though in fact the reverse I have a very angular defined jaw which is in my family . My mum has no jowls or looseness at all. My lines were only on the forehead. I plan to have more in may and that will prob be it until Xmas. I think the best thing for me was that combined with semi permanent lashes I am make up free most of the time now.

AintMissBeehiving · 01/04/2011 22:08

Oooh. All this love for botox is very tempting...

Monadami · 02/04/2011 02:30

I think Kelly in Emmerdale could do with getting Botoxed up. I'm sure she can't be that old, but her face is just haggard.

TheBolter · 02/04/2011 08:34

Tatty - thanks so much for your replies, sorry I had to log off last night so haven't managed to thank you sooner!

VERY helpful, think I might be taking the plunge soon [scared emoticon]

TheBolter · 02/04/2011 08:41

One more question:

I have two clinics near me. One is a dental surgery, the other a beauty salon with a specialist who visits.

Not sure who to use. Are dentists OK to do botox? Any advice there?

noddyholder · 02/04/2011 09:33

I wouldn't use a beautician tbh not sure about dentists although would assume they had more knowledge re safety and placement wrt where the muscles are etc. I went to a plastic surgeon who has a private clinic but also works in the NHS as a reconstructive breast surgeon. I chose him mainly out of fear! He was very thorough though about medical history and light touch botox which is what i wanted.

TattyDevine · 02/04/2011 12:17

If the beautician has a specialist who visits, then its the specialist you need to research, not the beauty salon. If the specialist who visits is an experienced doctor or cosmetic nurse, then that will be fine.

Dentists should not be ruled out - my botox doctor is a dentist, but he doesn't do dentistry anymore, the is the clinic director of the clinic, and does all sorts of cosmetic things and has been doing Botox for 12 years. He's really "into it" though - he really believes in it and is thinking of actually becoming a plastic surgeon and getting BACCPS registered or whatever it is. Whereas a dentist who has taken it on in the past year to try and get some more cash flowing through might not be your man/woman...

TattyDevine · 02/04/2011 12:41

Jeremy - I'm no expert but they dont actually paralise the muscles of the eyebrow - that would cause a severe droop. I'm not entirely sure what causes the slight lift to the eyebrow - its probably googleable, I'll have a look shortly, but I think its more to do with the fact the muscles above on the forehead are paralysed so the eyebrows can only raise a certain amount in a certain place. Obviously its all controlable, you can ask for a brow lifting effect or you can say you want to minimise that look - this is what the consultation is all about.

Hell you can even take photos of various celebs and say "this is what I DONT want. Most will laugh and say, I'd have to do about 50 injections worth £2000 to even get close to that. Which is why these celebs give it a bad name!

noddyholder · 02/04/2011 12:41

My new dentist offers botox. I haven't been to him yet as I have just registered and the 1st appointment is in June. How can i tell he is ok as I would save a fair bit on the journey?

adamschic · 02/04/2011 13:01

I quite fancy having it done. I'm 50 this year. I don't know if having botox in your 30's actually delays the ageing process, I can see in theory how it can, but has it been around long enough to prove this.

I will say that anyone in their 30's early 40's who think they are wrinkled should wait until they hit 50+ to know that it's around this age that they wrinkles really begin. Sad

cybbo · 02/04/2011 13:44

Mine is being done by a dentist but they specialise in cosmetic interventions too, chem peels etc

MrsCampbellBlack · 02/04/2011 14:31

Mine is done by my dentist and he's very good indeed.
