Lol at bloss and the fake tan; shouldn't you be embracing your inner snow-white? Grin Wink

Ladies a friend has an urgent dialemma I hope you can help with. She needs a cocktail dress for a Cambridge College dinner (and my 40th party...). And she really needs to buy it tomorrow in London. She's a tiny size 6 (beautifully in proportion I should add). Not sure exactly how tall; over 5' but not by muvh. It doesn't need to be too glitzy, and a classic shift would be idea. She's a spring (and a classic ingenue for those who know of such things). Soft and drapey are no-nos, she needs structured but can do "pretty". Any suggestions? Budget £200. Thanks! Off to eat now, but back anon.

wideawakenurse · 08/04/2011 21:26

ABO - what about Tina or davina or Lantis or Tan.

LK Bennet really do some lovely structured dresses.

Nan pretty dresses, good price on the first one.

TheAllNewOoooh · 08/04/2011 22:03

Agree that LKB are good - although I tend to find them cut for pear shapes and a bit long on me at 5ft 1.

This Farhi number is very pretty and a little different.

Short shift but a bit over budget

Not so structured but she is a size 6 ingenue!!

petitdonkey · 08/04/2011 22:37

Ooooh - the first Whistles dress you linked to is just gorgeous.... sigh, if only I was a size 6 classic ingenue....

AllBuggiedOut · 09/04/2011 00:02

Thanks - wideawake LKB was one of the first places she tried but they are all far too long in the body, as Ooooh finds too. I'll suggest she tries Whistles, thanks for those suggestions.

AllBuggiedOut · 09/04/2011 00:33

Humm, the more I look, the more I think she needs to stretch the budget and buy a Bec...

carciofi · 09/04/2011 08:45

Nan so sorry about your late miscarriage, that must have been awful for you. That is a cute dress.

Honey and garlic still haven't kicked my sore throat and I am so tired.

Bloss, sounds like you need another trip to London.

Hope you all have good weekends. We are going furniture shopping and then will sit in the garden.

carciofi · 09/04/2011 08:46

Ants, I like the Kew purchases.

AntPants1 · 09/04/2011 09:12

Thanks carciofi enjoy the day in the garden.

zembo good luck with whatever you decide.

nan so sorry about your baby.

blossoming · 09/04/2011 14:02

Hi everyone! Hope you're all enjoying the sunshine, as we are here.
Today I am wearing the new Kew blouse, and it is working very well. I have had good reviews so far. I shall shortly be walking into town, and will drape the scarf over it. Pleased.

Realising however that this is just a blip, and working on my Rome capsule wardrobe, I have fancied this utility shirt in navy. Also I like this white zip back top. There are a couple of things in Jigsaw I'd like to try on too. I am going shopping on Wednesday, and dragging my mum so she can entertain dd!

Hope you're all well, and nan, I was sorry to hear of your loss.

Nan - think you'll find the Uniqlo skinnies tooooooo long. The Oasis ones are longish on me but fit fine as they are tight.

Loving my Hush dress - but daren't bend over in it!!

NanAstley · 09/04/2011 16:39

Mmm...no wonder I couldn't find the skinny cargos from Oasis online. Turns out they are cropped trousers. They were full length on me Hmm Oh, the perils of being a shortie Grin

bloss I can't open the links, computer says noooo

Thanks everyone for the empathy. I tend to talk very little about it in real life as it makes people uncomfortable; thank goodness for mum whose ear I bend so much I'm amazed it's still attached to her head Grin

NanAstley · 09/04/2011 16:40

morag thanks for that! I think I'll order the Oasis ones as really they are calling out to me way more than the Uniqlo ones ever did

AntPants1 · 09/04/2011 17:02

nan I understand. I don't think we are very good, in this country, in dealing with death and loss. You are amongst friends here.

vinestein · 09/04/2011 17:26

Argh my phone keeps doing strange things! On way home from w11 w8 i miss living there, had v successful day with film launch met many great people and got to mingle in the sunshine in boring but comfy outfit of fc breton, cropped twill zara trousers, neon pink ballerinas, lanvin bag and long lost chanel sunglasses. I really had a lovely day and hope everyone is having a good time. Saw crazynumber of people on tube in hotpants and bikini tops though, bleurgh!
Nan so sorry to hear about your loss, many of us have experienced similar and you can say what you want on here and be understood. X

AntPants1 · 09/04/2011 17:40

Sounds like a great outfit vin.

Have had lovely day, though I could have done without the 5.30 wake up call from DS!

Am also wearing the W&A classic. Indigo skinnies and bretton!! Managed to have pedicure so have braved my silver gladiator style sandals. Have also found the most perfect hot pink nail polish from Rimmel! Cannot find my sunglasses anywhere. I know I would have thought to put them "somewhere safe" but where? Is anyone else getting a bit of hay fever. My eyes are itching. Still on the plus side this is the first summer for like ever I am not pregnant or breastfeeding so I can take lots of lovely anti histamine. Yay!

Am thinking that this weather is crying out for a cool glass of White wine!

pickledsiblings · 09/04/2011 20:17

I was in a breton too today Smile, plus cropped jeans and blue hasbeens.

Bloss, have you been wearing your M&S breton t shirt? I love mine!

I bought a new dress in Anna today, it's probably a tunic Grin but it is gorgeous. Sooo soft, summer grey and floral. I'm sure I'll wear it a lot. These Day Birger et Mikkelsen cargos are worth a look to those of you considering Houlihans. They are much cheaper but very nice indeed, especially the olive.

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend in the sun with your families.

AllBuggiedOut · 09/04/2011 20:39

Evening all. It is indeed the evening for cool white wine ant and I am enjoying mine very much Smile

What are you ladies wearing on your feet with your skinnies and bretons? I am rubbish with heels and could never do them for daytime, but feel short and dumpy in ballet flats with skinnies.

Ooooh the shorts arrived yesterday and I love them, thank you so much for the recommendation!

nan I am sorry for your loss, and glad you have such a great mum Smile

Did anybody else get a My Wardrobe voucher this morning? STYLE25 for £25 off £125. Will be browsing later...

MarshaBrady · 09/04/2011 20:40

Hello lovely saucissons. I love the sound of all your summery, floaty, breton-y, happy days.

I talk ds2 for along walk and he chubbily received smiles from people sitting outside etc. Was very sweet, took an age to get anywhere.

Vine film launch sounds fabulous, and outfit.

Pickled love those day birger cargos.

Nan so sorry about your baby too.

Anniemac hope you are having a well-deserved gorgeous weekend with your scrumptious children.

VerityB hope all is well with college etc if you are reading thread every so often.

Ants hope you are enjoying a lovely crisp glass of white wine.

carciofi getting close now!

Now I am going to have a g&t and friend here later on.

MarshaBrady · 09/04/2011 20:41

voucher sounds great ABO going to check now. Smile

blossoming · 09/04/2011 20:55

pickled I like mine a lot. I am grudgingly accepting that I need a loose fit top with my tummy. It fits the bill very well although I don't like the curved hem so much. I just ordered the Boden one too.
I have pmt and need as many loose fit tops and elasticated waist bottoms as possible.

Nan - these were the ones that I got a little while back - haven't seen the cropped ones from your link. They do ruche a bit at the bottom. The Uniqlo ones are nice though, just couldn't be faffed about shortening them.
