New thread here!

Talking of little things that make me happy: Just scoffed 2 scones with huge dollop of clotted cream on each whilst sitting in the garden admiring the painter who is painting outside windows and it has to be said is a bit of alright the view.
Life is good.

Zembo · 08/04/2011 14:59

OWW your tea party sounded lovely, totally my kind of thing Smile

Sorry I haven't been around much recently. Pondering various (shock, non-S&B) things irl including whether or not to apply for redundancy and be a SAHM for a while but timing bad as DH will be without job from mid-July! So will continue pondering and apply at the same time Grin

pickledsiblings · 08/04/2011 16:34

Have done a huge Gap and Zara shop for the family. Will report back when stuff arrives if anything is lovely.

I have discovered a great blusher. It's Benefit's Posie Tint. It is almost fluorescent at first but disappears when you rub it in to give a beautiful 'posie tint' Smile. You can even use it on your lips.

Zembo, I'm sure DH will find a job soon. How weird that you are in the opposite situation re: job than me. What hours do you work at the moment? Are they school friendly? Would you anticipate going back to work when the LO starts school?

OWW, I have slowly been working my way through some clotted cream ice cream. Yummy in a cone and you only need a small amount.

NanAstley · 08/04/2011 17:48

blueberries is that skirt good? I saw it in Zara today but walked past it because I thought it might be too voliminous.

Will have read through rest of the posts now

bouncingblueberries · 08/04/2011 18:17

nan it is very long - I'm 5ft 8 and it's down to my feet but it's long and narrow as opposed to long and voluminous iykwim Smile. I like it Smile

Did you see the orange vest with the large butterfly on it while you were there? Might go back for it next week - looked stunning on a member of staff.

vinestein · 08/04/2011 18:53

Haven't caught up, sorry, just here to say what fabulous weather! Am stuck. At blackfriars station trying to work out phone, had bad day at work after boss shouted expletives and threw files in my direction! Having said that I hadnt done anything wrong, hes just v stressed, and I do really like my job. Am dreading the weekend!how tragic is that? Expected in west london for a film and q&a session tomorrow but no childcare yikes. Am struggling with warm weather clothes at the moment, need some more I think!! Hmm any excuse....

vinestein · 08/04/2011 18:54

Than.ks for all kind comments re interview btw, you are a bunch of. Optimists!

wideawakenurse · 08/04/2011 19:02

Evening everyone.

On the train home, having left work two and a half hours late. Feeling guilty but stressed, my department has changed so much since I have had mat leave and I am convinced that there is stuff going on behind the scenes to promote a colleague over me. Therefore I am feeling the pressure to stay late. I am so not in a posision to offer any advice re work life balance to anyone!

Bloss, can you sell the gap cargos? Thinking about the houlihans I would say if you want them then try and get them sooner rather than late. I am thinking cost per wear and all that.

Happy holidays to Red and NY.

Can't look at links as phone being really crap, will catch up at home

Carciofi, weather is set to stay warm so any cooler clothing would be an investment.

Can't wait to get home and dive into a vat of wine.

vinestein · 08/04/2011 19:07

Annie sorry youre finding things tough, i get sad sometimes when ds changes so much and i hardly see him, esp on sunny days. Carciofi you must buy the cargos! I love the trench. Zembo, I think if you want to do it then you should for a while at least :) so many lovely links asalways. Have been wearing red pleated silk adam skirt lots at weekends with black top or white breton tee, its v floaty but the colour is fab. I also got some of blossms rouge coco in rivoli, bloss is right it makes teeth look v white. Sent back another outnet disaster....must stop ordering polyester clothing!!!

vinestein · 08/04/2011 19:10

Hi wideawake sorry to hear of work stresses, I'm under pressure but P gets horrible if am home late , argh, can't win!

vinestein · 08/04/2011 19:25

Zembo your dh is a ctc right? Im looking for one to act as expert, dont suppose he does medicolegal? Pm me if so, am desperate! Well am home now and p and ds are awol. V strange. Happy holidays all who are going!

petitdonkey · 08/04/2011 19:31

Hello all, I've been away this week so just catching up on all of your posts and links.

Wideawake (love the new name!) and vinestein - so sorry that work is so stressful, the vat of wine sounds like the best idea for now!

bouncing - love that skirt but fear that it would be loo long for me at 5"4...

pickled and vinestein - thank you for enabling my avid but not always wise beauty purchasing! Benefit blusher and rivoli are now on my 'must haves' list Grin

Now, lucky girl that I am, I have a choice of bags for my birthday. I had been certain that I wanted the Anya Hindmarch Maxi Zip Shoulder looking at it again, it seems really big. Has anyone seen it in the flesh? I'd prefer the smaller version but they don't seem to do it in the cream colour. I am leaning towards Gracie instead..... I realise that this is not a difficult decision in light of some of you talking about jobs, childcare etc. but am hoping for advice/opinions nonetheless Smile

vinestein · 08/04/2011 19:38

Ltec fab scarf! Am reading in reverse! Everyspring sorry you're feeling down you've been through so much recently. P being ridiculous and has kidnapped ds in protest at my lateness. Great! He's also wrecked the last remaining laptop and wiped the hard drive of dd pics. Again. Stupidly I thought that laptop was safe.

vinestein · 08/04/2011 19:41

Petit i love both bags!!! Its not tooo big. But think .gracie more useable long term

carciofi · 08/04/2011 20:02

Hi Vinestein, your boss sounds volatile, is he often like that? As for P, grrr.

Wideawake, work sounds stressful. Enjoy the wine.

Pickled, three days a week would be nice but it depends on the economy and where we are living. I have another few years at home. I do (mostly) enjoy it and DH is always telling me that I will be back in an office in a few years and I'll be sorry then. :) I never intended to be a sahm. Having said that, Zembo, I think you should apply for redundancy!

Bloss, your summer outfits sound nice. I wore this dress in black today.

Petit I love my Gracie bag but I'd quite like the satchel as well. Yes, I am greedy.

Emo76 · 08/04/2011 20:02

Hello all - popping in to join the worn out after work crew! petit I would lean towards the Gracie - though it depends what you want to lug around as it looks smaller than the other one.

OWW that sounds like a RESULT (the crunchies...and scones..)

everything hang on in there!

The warm weather has put my clothing totally out of sync. And my hair seems to be frizzing more than usual. Aaagh! have some precious time to myself on Sunday for a spot of shopping - of course that means I won't find anything I like however I really must get some spring/summer things for work.

Hurrah for Friday!

MarshaBrady · 08/04/2011 20:07

Hellooo lovely people. I haven't read as so much has been said since last looked! But will attempt to catch up after I post.

Work is going really well, and have wangled into working when I like from home (I just worked really hard and thought about something a lot so they need me Wink). So have decided not to get a nanny and just work at night etc (not because I have anything against using nannies, I just need to keep the funds). Felt terribly bad about it, as she was SO nice. But I think she has found something else already which is good.

Still doing child swap with friend now and then and was really nice to have her little girl today. Girls do things so early compared with boys, well mine anyway. I kept saying look ds2 look and learn!

I am out of the loop wardrobe wise, but new office people mean new audience so it doesn't matter Grin. Have been wearing Wang skirt a lot, which people complimented so am going with it. But GEEZ offices are funny places sometimes aren't they? I was there for half a day and all those carbs floating around all day. Cake, biscuits, sandwiches, blinking hec. Fortunately easy to resist!

Emo76 · 08/04/2011 20:18

marsha can I come and work in your office, ho ho !

my office is also laden with temptations - soft drinks, choccie bars, fruit and desk pizzas for lunch sometimes!! Still it's nice to have.

nice dress carciofi!

I hope to be able to contribute some style to this thread soon..one day....!!

MarshaBrady · 08/04/2011 20:20

Emo the day I was there they had a cake competition and just some random cakes and half day off for some game thing with food. Making me laugh thinking about it Grin

Don't worry about the style thing I haven't bought anything for donkey's!

NanAstley · 08/04/2011 20:38

bouncing I'm a bit of an oompa-loompa at 5'2" so that skirt would be like a tent on me. Very Envy at your height

vine and wideawake so sorry about work being stressful.

carciofi I am also an accidental-SAHM. Never intended it at all. I happened to have a terrible pregnancy back in 2009 which made me incapable of working. Then I miscarried at 25 weeks, which sent me into depression and I quit my job. Just when I was getting my head back on, and looking forward to working again, I fell pregnant completely by accident - result dd2 Grin. I've been home since August 2009, and I don't think I can realistically start looking for work till September-ish. Though, if I do get a job offer before then I will jump at it - I miss work Sad

MarshaBrady · 08/04/2011 20:44

Aw NanAstley I'm sure you will get work when you wish. Don't worry about breaks. It's hard when you're not sure what will happen, but it will. It's one of those things that make being a sahm a bit unsettling but if you are enthusiastic I bet you will. There are people out there that work but do it quite sloppily, are tired of it etc

MarshaBrady · 08/04/2011 20:45

that can make being a sahm... not a definite!

Zembo · 08/04/2011 20:45

Vin have PM'd you. Great to hear you're enjoying your new job esp after the big dilemma you were having.

Pickled I currently work 3 days a week and have the option of a term-time contract which is all very good really. BUT as you probably know we're in the midst of another massive NHS reorganisation and it's a very difficult environment to work in. I'm really lucky that in my profession I could probably get some kind of work if I need to/want to. I've never felt 100% comfortable with working whilst my DC are so young and think my recent ruptured ectopic and everything that followed has changed my perspectives somewhat; redundancy is sounding good at the moment!

NanAstley · 08/04/2011 20:45

Snapped this bargain at Oasis today. It's lovely and very flattering.

Also tried this on but it didn't suit me. Shame, as the colour is beautiful, but the empire line made my boobs look huuuu-ge Hmm

I also tried on some skinny cargos and they were really flattering. I can't find them online...they weren't the sale ones...cost £40. I didn't buy it because I have Uniqlo skinny cargos on order and wanted to wait till I tried them on.

blossoming · 08/04/2011 20:48

Sorry to hear of everyone's stresses, I am joining the vat of wine club.

What a gorgeous dress carciofi... And what a great afternoon ollie!
zembo, I think that could be a good decision for you after what you've been through.
Where's verity these days?
