At 5ft6 and a Size 20 can I wear a Maxi Dress?

I need something for two weddings this year. I hate having to 'dress' but it must be done. There isn't one bit of my body I am happy with at the minute but efforts need to be made and I'm prepared to splash out a touch to wear to both occassions. There won't be any of the same guests at the events and I'll make sure, as always, I'm behind the camera!!

I've been lured in by a pretty fecking expensive maxi dress and wondered if it's worth while even trying it.

These are child free weddings so I won't even have my gorgeous and impecibly dressed DC's to hide behind [meep]

ROFL!!

am relaying the conversation to DH who is now insisting he is buying me one for mother's day - a lovely lovely gesture which also means he doesn't have to think about what to get me from the girls Grin

now, who is a size 18 or less please as I have fallen in love with this dress here which is just beautiful

HippyHippopotamus · 30/03/2011 22:53

BibiBelle · 30/03/2011 23:00

ok, so we're keeping

this balck chiffon tiered job as a surprise entry and

printed maxi dress

both of which are now, of course, sodding reduced in the sale so I shall be on the phone to House of Frasers tomorrow about that Hmm

If they refuse to drop the price I'm sure mnetters around the country will go and find them for you!
Well done to mrbibi, defunitely a keeper there Smile

my absolutle favourite is the maxi dress! loving the flowers

wubblybubbly · 31/03/2011 08:35

What a result! 2 dresses found and both in the sale too. HOF must give you them at the reduced price surely?

Now, can anoyone find me a maxi/calf length dress, no low neck, some sleeves that doesn't look like a burqa? Grin

BibiBelle · 31/03/2011 14:55

Nope, apparently they're not honouring the price drop!!

Wubbly am sure I saw one. On phone heading to work so try Next, Dot P & HofF as thats where I've been looking last few days!

Bibi that's outrageous! Can you re order at the new price and just return the first lot?

Thanks for the tip Smile

CrispyTheCrisp · 31/03/2011 16:37

bibi i would do exactly as wubbly said. In fact as you didn't order the black one in the first place they cannot be snippy about you returning it. I am happy to place the order for you if you like with your address on it? Then you can return all the first order as not suitable?

GetOrfMoiLand · 31/03/2011 16:42

I don't think there is a person alive who suits maxi dresses.

I am 6 foot and a size 8 and I look like a voluminous clown/Nana Mouskouri hybrid with a maxi dress on.

I hate them. Yes to long fitted dresses but NO to anything voluminous.

wubblybubbly · 31/03/2011 22:26

This is soooo beautiful. Do you think it would look daft with a cardi? It would wouldn't it Sad

BibiBelle · 02/04/2011 00:41

Wubbly I'm on my phone just finished my shift but I promise I'll look tomorrow x

BibiBelle · 02/04/2011 08:44

wubbly it's pretty but I always hate the line that cuts right across under the bust. I think a loose shrug cardi would sit ok though??

what abuot this?? it's the shorter version of the maxi I ordered, has some sleeves and could be worn over capri if too short on the leg??

Oh and I had a bit of a result with HofF. Their executive Hmm complaints dept phoned and they've given me £45 in vouchers. Not quite a 'refund' but a gal needs shoes Grin and seeing as I was only looking for the £25 off the black chiffon one I took it!

Result with HofF, Bibi. It's a very nice contribution towards the shoes. Vouchers are good, they can't get wasted on groceries Grin

I love the dress you linked to, it's exactly the kind of thing I would've worn a year ago. Unfortunately, since I've been ill, my wardrobe options have shrunk to practically nothing other than a burqa. I'd be tempted if I knew who stocked them.

Anyway, I'm going shopping today to see what's out there. I did find a ridiculously cheap dress at George, which I've ordered. At that price, it's probably hideous, but it'll do for slobbing around the house if nothing else.

BibiBelle · 02/04/2011 12:11

wubbly - the majority of my camoflague wardrobe is from ASDA as I can't be bothered looking in actual shops for stuff. I'm sorry to hear you've been ill Sad

It's nice, it's £12 and it gets 5 stars Grin They don't have it in my size or I'd be tempted too Smile

Managed to pick up a non-burqa dress today at Next. Actually, it's the one that swiftyknicks mentioned up thread. I had checked it out earlier but it looks really quite low cut here, so I'd discounted it. In the flesh though it's nowhere near as low so I can get away with it. I got some chunky wooden beads and bracelets in the same tone as the belt.

I also picked up a lovely soft jersey shrug, so that's the swollen arm taken care of too.

All in all, a very good shopping day Grin

BibiBelle · 02/04/2011 19:38

That's lovely - does it come with the belt? That belt would terrify me Grin

OP posts:
wubblybubbly · 02/04/2011 19:42

That's the clever thing, the belt isn't a belt! It's a strip sewn into the front to look like a belt and it has ties to fasten at the back, so you can have it as loose or tight as you like Grin
