moonmother can I ask you a jewellery making question? how you are going to attach the discs to the chain? I've attempted to make the necklace in silver and it's ok, but am not completely happy with.

My first attempt was to drill a hole in each disk but I only have a hand drill and it took ages, so I've soldered 2mm jump ring to the edge of the disc but it needs such a small amount of solder that it leaves lots of excess.

I've polished it up and it looks ok from a distance but I'm not 100% happy with the finish.

moonmother · 10/03/2011 18:51

Netbook (giving secrets away now) the discs are actually hallmark tags or charms that you stamp.

I use them to stamp my logo on. The tags I buy have the holes and a small open jumpring attached to them.

So its a very easy design really just add clasp to the necklace at whatever length you want the necklace to be then add the discs by the jumpring every few inches or so ( obviously measuring so you get them equal).

I'm sure I read somewhere that the original necklaces are $3500- thats astronomical even for a Gold one Shock.

The tags I've ordered for my friends one are 0.7mm long and are an oval shape, so not technically a copy - just in case the copyright police are watching Wink

barbieisaskinnybitch · 11/03/2011 10:45

I looked for gold tags too moonmother - nada, zip, nothing.

Grrr!

lol Barbie the only ones I have found are from Thailand, and when looking at them close up they are very thick- they're hand made. So think they would ruin the delicate look of the necklace.

In desperation I may email the lady on Etsy selling them to ask where she buys them from, lol.

On a good note the Silver ones arrived today , so I will have a play later on and make the silver one up Grin

barbieisaskinnybitch · 11/03/2011 14:45

Yeah.

Lucky friend.

Envy

No, really, I'm pleased for her.

Barbie sorry only just back on - Dc's have both come down with horrible cough/throaty bug.

Pic of necklace is on my profile ,but will pm you my email address for a bigger pic and link.

I'v emade it quite long (mate very tall) so to get it to sit on block had to wrap around quite a few times.

Am very pleased with it tho- so much in fact I might have one myself.Grin

netbook · 15/03/2011 21:16

Thanks for the tip moonmother Funnily enough I'd been looking at jewellery tags. Have found some so may give them a go.

I'ave had a look at the necklace and it's lovely. Hope you get some sales.

Not a copy, more inspired by Wink

FromGirders · 22/03/2011 09:55

Can I point out that Folksy is a UK version of Etsy, so you can buy lots of lovely hand-crafted things without the danger of customs / taxes?
(Not that I have a Folksy shop myself or anything, oh no)

stylenotfashion · 22/03/2011 09:58

And if one were to stumble across your shop, fromgirders, where might one look

::eyes left & right suspiciously::

moonmother · 22/03/2011 11:18

Lol FromGirders yes Folksy is wonderful too Wink
It's nice as it hasn't grown as huge as Etsy yet, so easier to find lovely stuff.

I too frequent Folksy (nudge nudge wink wink)

FromGirders · 22/03/2011 12:06

am I allowed t link to my own stuff [worried]
Don't want to get a row for advertising!

(but you would find me here if you looked very hard Grin )

FromGirders · 22/03/2011 12:08

Do you have a Folksy shop moonmother? I love that necklace you made.

hijack - I've been thinking about getting one of those neck-shapes for displaying stuff on - isn't it a pain to store though?

stylenotfashion · 22/03/2011 12:12

FromGirders · 22/03/2011 12:16

And you've sold loads of items! Can I ask, have you been folksy-ing long, and do you do a lot of promoting your site? (And how do you do that?)

stylenotfashion · 22/03/2011 12:17

I'm loving the rainbow lariat. fwip fwoo!

FromGirders · 22/03/2011 12:28
