yes she is - and she lives in same city as me [runs and hides]

TerrorFirmer · 23/02/2011 11:55

it's the flat square arse that is the zenith of this look. Like they've shoved a tupperware lid down the back of elasticated chinos.

dinkystinky · 23/02/2011 11:56

Mums on holiday in cities do not, I repeat, do not wear fanny packs. And please do not have your entire family wear them too. They dont protect your valuables from pickpockets on the tube - they just make you all look like numpties...

squeaver · 23/02/2011 11:59

Dear Judge Cod

Please also take into consideration the following crimes:

  • Polo shirt under jumper (or worse) sweatshirt with collar peaking over the top (or worse, turned up)
  • Those who do not even moisturise
  • The birthday present Mulberry bag - but it's still a cross body one.

Yours

The prosecution

AbsDuCroissant · 23/02/2011 12:01

Noooooooo! they should continue doing this - tis greatly amusing and you know that you can quite happily push them out of the way when they're standing on the wrong side of the escalator.

Fnar at the Canadian comment Grin

DuplicitousBitch · 23/02/2011 12:04

amazing - no one has come on to shout at us for being shallow, are they all too busy ranting about bitches and bullies?

polyhymnia · 23/02/2011 12:04

Have caught up with the flat bum thing now - know what you mean. Mine may be many things, but not flat. Loved the mom jeans ads.

Denim is a fascinating story - has very much entered the M and S Classic Collection repertoire, whilst still having a fashionable life in J Brand jeans, etc, etc. Some denim skirts also OK, though some very mumsy. But there's something about short sleeved denim jackets, as mentioned by MmeLindt, that is irredeemably on the Classic Collection end of the spectrum.

I live in London so, though often casually dressed on way to college, don't dress as a tourist there and dress the same, or sometimes better, in Paris or Milan.

CameronCook · 23/02/2011 12:05

So have we come up with the definitive "Mums on holiday trips to large cities" outfit?

In a bit to avoid frumpiness I wore biker boots, thick tights, denim skirt, long sleeve top waterfall Blush cardigan but felt a bit muttony yesterday

traceybath · 23/02/2011 12:05

I think mutton over mumsy may well become my new mantra.

Like it isn't already Wink Looks down at denim mini skirt and leopard print scarf.

Oh and I am also wearing black knee high boots but they're flattish and belstaff so most definitely not mumsy.

bellavita · 23/02/2011 12:07

Oooh and I bought the veloutee stuff on Sat on your recommendation Tracey!

AbsDuCroissant · 23/02/2011 12:08

DP - that is amazing.

I got such a telling off last week for denigrating the Mom Jeans and Fleece combo on a chat thread. I had to be super diplomatic to get out of it but, come on. Jeans and fleece? Have you NO imagination? No pride? No sense of style?

bellavita · 23/02/2011 12:08

and I doubt you could ever look mumsy or mutton like Tracey, I bet you are always swish and stylish even when you are going nowhere.

KristinaM · 23/02/2011 12:09

I distinctly remember cod buying a pair of
M and s foot glove ankle boots a few years agoBiscuit

Bonsoir · 23/02/2011 12:09

In fact, tracey, I think we should volunteer to lead the next Mumsnet campaign - the promotion of mutton over mumsy Wink.

FluffyMummy123 · 23/02/2011 12:13

i htink i just broke mn
had just typed "
ho ho yes to kristina."

then said somehting about a new tv watching theory
its mutton watching lamb - ie women of AGE who watch things like that Essex show

Mumsnet - Mutton over Mumsy.

Good ad slogan.

Has no one linked to decent biker boots yet?

MmeLindt · 23/02/2011 12:15

And be nice about Canadians. Some of my favourite posters are Canadians.

:o

Rannaldini · 23/02/2011 12:15

wtf am i then
i am addicted to rastamouse and the squids are meh about it

FluffyMummy123 · 23/02/2011 12:16

often biker boots can look VERY agggressive and a bit like you are reday to KILL someone, or oddly turning up toes

streptococcus · 23/02/2011 12:16

OK...... I think I may need your help.
I went to london 3 weeks ago with 3 children and I think some of you may have seen me.... I was the lady pushing a buggy with the ill fitting too short martha topshop jeans ( either they have shrunk since I got them or I have gotten taller) trainers and hoodie. I may have also had bag worn across me and a cagoule when i got a bit cold.

thing is I dress really nicely for work.... shift dress
and nice shoes and we have clothes for walks and camping but nothing in between!

what should a mum accompanying children to museum be wearing????? It has to be comfy and machhine washable and preferably cheap as I have no money

Rannaldini · 23/02/2011 12:16

those dm ones from tweetland looked ok yesterday but I'm over biker boots

FluffyMummy123 · 23/02/2011 12:16

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 23/02/2011 12:18

Step
Decent fitting jeans, top with cardigan and jacket or coat is my smart-but-casual outfit.

I wear a lot of blouse/shirts too.

There was a mum on an ad recently that I thought, "Aha, not a fleece wearing mum". Think it was a Jolly Green Giant ad.
