TPL I am not a particular fan of Next tbh, but some of it does fit and it is handy for work trousers. I am a 10 in Next but an 8 most other places. I think they are made for small bottomed people. :)

I really don't like a lot of their "trendy" patterned stuff.

I have a similar bust issue. 32dd/30e depending on who I see in Bravissimo. So a size 8 is snug over the bust but rather gapey round the shoulders/back of neck area.

We should take up dressmaking.

BelligerentGhoul · 27/01/2011 22:10

Little ladies with large norks - what you need is either a Phase Eight Janice or an Anglomania jersey dress with a draped neck - very flattering indeedy!

MrsSeanBean · 27/01/2011 22:11

For me it's mainly:

Net-a-porter
Jigsaw
Russell & Bromley (why don't they have a website btw? Angry
LK Bennett - got a nice dress in sale this year
Brora for knitwear
Crumpet

onepieceoflollipop · 27/01/2011 22:13

BelligerentGhoul I shall take a look. :)

PuppyMonkey · 27/01/2011 22:13

I went in Gap the other day and it was so boring I nearly had a nap in there.

That is why Anglomania never works for me. Tall and small of boob- direct opposite.

What about Hobbs??

sadiesadiemarriedlady · 28/01/2011 07:25

I'm a La Redoute fan...but I like Clarks for shoes.

HarlotOTara · 28/01/2011 16:09

I hate all this sneary stuff about shops and labels and wonder what the style police on here really look like! Anyway it isn't what you buy but how you wear it I reckon.

I have things from Per Una and buy a fair few things from White Stuff as I get 50% discount due to DD working there as a student (good emploer by the way). Not sure I have seen many people laughing at me (at least to my face Grin)

Whipmawhopma · 28/01/2011 18:44

50% WS discount? Envy Envy

I might have to apply for a job there!

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 28/01/2011 18:46

Bought a couple of useful scarves today form per Una, so there! Grin
(HarlotoTara - fantastic name!!!)

RedRosie · 28/01/2011 19:30

I like Kew. Is that allowed? And Hobbs, but only in the sales ...

MissRead · 28/01/2011 21:30

I think EdgarAleandPie has hit the nail on the head, it's dressing top to toe in 1 or 2 brands that's the problem. Looking like you're wearing a uniform is never good - I always worry that if I wear more than 2 things from the same shop I will look like I've stepped out of the pages of their catalogue (only shorter and wider).

In my opinion most places have something to redeem them - White Stuff do some truly hideous patterned 'pieces' but also really nice plain tunics and beautiful jewellery plus their clothes are generally pretty good quality. On the other hand their 'fun' advertising campaigns drive me up the wall and a lot of the clothes are just too mumsy for me. Likewise I find New Look excellent for jeans - one of the few places that does fashionable, flattering styles in a short length and in bigger sizes - but they also sell a lot of teenage tat which I wouldn't be seen dead in.

I think whether it's clothes or home style or anything else, mixing and matching is the key. Variety of high street shops, online/catalogues, bit of designer (more if you can afford it), bargains from charity shops or Ebay, cheap bits from supermarkets - far more stylish and individual than buying everything in 1 place.

skirt · 28/01/2011 21:32

Just buy everything from ASOS, no matter how shit you look, it still sounds ok.

littlemissindecisive · 29/01/2011 08:25

Buy what you like where you like, who gives a stuff where it's from, how much it cost as long as you like it Hmm

Clockface · 29/01/2011 08:47

Well I'm definitely in the naff camp!

Quite a few of my clothes are from:

Boden
M & S
and Sainsburys (the Tu range)

with a smattering of stuff bought from chatity shops.

The thing is that I'm busy - I work / study full time and have two dc - so I need stuff that fits well, looks nice and allows me to get on with my life. So yes maybe that is a bit dull! Also live in a provincial town with an okay but not overwhelmingly wonderful range of shops.

I looked at Mint Velvet - is very monochrome!

Tillyscoutsmum · 29/01/2011 08:55

I like White Stuff (their leggings are so comfy). Kew, Phase Eight, Van Mildert and a fair few bits from Sainburys/Tesco/Asda

saythatagain · 29/01/2011 09:11

I'm 5'11" - where do I shop?
Not Next, not Long Tall Sally....
Size 14 btw, oh and I'm 43 - dress me!!!!!

PuppyMonkey · 29/01/2011 09:38

Littlemiss, don't worry I certainly will buy what I like. I was just very curious to see what MN's style gurus did actually consider "acceptable" - thinking there was going to be some wonderful secret they all held. Apart from a couple of new suggestions for me on here though, the amazing style secret seems to be Top Shop and Gap! Big wow! Grin

I hate all this Style/Shop Police stuff too, and nobody should feel inadequate about where they buy their clothes. A few posters have hit the nail on the head when they commented that it's how you put things together. I've got things from Boden,Bhs,Debenhams,White Stuff,M&S,and Dorothy Perkins.

Tortington · 29/01/2011 09:53

i don't know why you give a shit op, is mnet really a consuming that you would forfeit your style to a bunch on internet dickheads?

Lamorna · 29/01/2011 09:55

Ignore them all! Wear what you like and buy it from where you like. People on here make snide comments, but that is their problem!

Tortington · 29/01/2011 09:58

i buy some really smart work clothes from M&S, they do quality reasonably priced suits and crisp shirts that are easy iron and wash a treat.

although at the moment i think DPs has gone downhill, when i was a larger lady, it was my shop of choice becuase it was practically the only shop that sold larger clothes of a decentish quality, they do great petite stiff in there if you are a midget (like me) and again reasonably priced suits.

although this seasons boden and winter boden were ver dissapointing, i do have a few choice items. i have an outstanding pair of boots with a wow factor of a million, i have a kinda felt mini skirt ( i actually got from a charity shop) and a couple of shirts.

now, i am comfortable enough in myself to think that i am quite stylish and i wouldn't think twice about what mnetters thought about these things and i do think its ridiculous

PuppyMonkey · 29/01/2011 10:42

Well I don't know about all consuming, custardo, I was kind of taking the piss about it all really.
