BelligerentGhoul · 27/01/2011 17:36

Does mincing around The White Company in my ten pound H&M jacket count? :)

southeastastra · 27/01/2011 17:36

i think it's fab that there is such a range now. in the 80s it was hard to find anything at all, and a basic sweatshirt in miss selfrige was about £30 and unless you wanted stuff that really did fall apart that was the cheapest end of the market!

fruitstick · 27/01/2011 17:37

I have no real interest in fashion and am a lumpy 16 but do like to look respectable. I also hate shopping.

So, Boden for work, White stuff for school run. Off bit of gap. That's it.

Yes it's soooooo boring and probably quite naff but not as boring as listen to you all whittling on about where to find the perfect this that or the other which you will all turn your nose up as soon as it reaches a critical mass of people liking it.

So there (sticks out tongue and pulls pigtails)

EdgarAleNPie · 27/01/2011 17:39

i agree southeast - i remmebr looking for non-polyester clothing in the lat enineties - nothing, nada, zip..

bras in any colour apart from white and black were hard to find.

the yawn fest that was high street fashion has been altered almost eyod recognition.

Though of course, its still not good enough.

Hulababy · 27/01/2011 18:04

I shop at White Stuff - don't care if some people think it is dull. They have clothes I like, that fit me nicely. I have also bought stuff from Debenhams too. And Next, and a whole range of other places.

Ignore MN - you won't be able to stop buying from everywhere tht some MNetters might feel are naff. You can't please everyone so please yoursef!

fruitstick · 27/01/2011 18:19

Hulababy, do you want to be in my club? Free street scarf for every member :o

Whipmawhopma · 27/01/2011 18:22

Can I join?

Hula, you make a v important point there. White Stuff things fit me. That can't be said of the stuff in many shops.

CointreauVersial · 27/01/2011 18:23

No one has mentioned Next. Grin

I tend to stick boringly with M&S, Debenhams, New Look, and, yes, Next, with occasional sale splurges in Monsoon, Fat Face or White Stuff (too pricy otherwise).

But my fave fave place is the British Heart Foundation charity shop - I have all sorts of "label" bargains from there.

Megglevache · 27/01/2011 18:27

Marisota of course doh.

PuppyMonkey · 27/01/2011 19:21

Course I should confess I will still be shopping at White Stuff cos I have a 40% off discount card. But thanks for all the other suggestions, have actually used them all. Just assumed from the comments on some of the shopping threads you all had a brilliant secret shop you go in, but apparently not!!

Meggles76 · 27/01/2011 20:07

Ok, I am going to put myself up for criticism and say that the majority of my wardrobe comes from

Boden (Knits, tops, dresses and Ts)
Monsoon (knits, dresses, shirts, shoes)
Jigsaw (tops)
Joules (tops and accessories)
Next (petite jeans and coats)
M&S (undies and tights)
GAP (tops)
Clarks (shoes)

upahill · 27/01/2011 20:49

Puppymonkey!! I suggested Sunday Best and Michelle B. They are pretty good and not run of the mill

for the record here they are again
best

There's also House of Fraser whose Boutique by Jaeger is reasonbly priced and trendy

Hulababy · 27/01/2011 20:53

fruitstick and Whipmawhopma - club joined :)

Hulababy · 27/01/2011 20:54

I used to wear a lot of stuff from Monoon but think it has gon downhill over the last couple of years, esp the petite range.

onepieceoflollipop · 27/01/2011 20:55

White stuff fits me, not sure if it is my slightly odd proportions. Fat face often a good fit too.:)

(fwiw I am generally a size 8, but nearer a 10 on the bum/hips and I am short, 5'2")

Next petite is usually too long.

I buy some of Debenham's Mantaray label which reminds me of White Stuff.

Whipmawhopma · 27/01/2011 21:08
Smile
Emo76 · 27/01/2011 21:25

Whatever you do don't buy a saress!

TheProvincialLady · 27/01/2011 21:32

Onepiece I am 5'2" and Next petite is usually too short, how puzzling.

onepieceoflollipop · 27/01/2011 21:37

Maybe it is our proportions TPL ?

or perhaps Next just make stuff that is rather long in the leg. If anything, the petite tops are a tiny bit short in the body/arms. Trousers I have to turn up and it's not like I want them particularly short. (if anything I like them to suit heeled boots iykwim)

TheProvincialLady · 27/01/2011 21:41

I've never been accused of having long legs before but maybe they are long for a shortarse person. Tops don't seem to be a problem except that I am tiny everywhere except for the bust, which is massive. I need a 6 for everything but they gape because they are made for smaller chested folk.

I might start a company selling clothes for short, small, massive chested women.

Do you particularly like Next or is it just that you can't find anything else to fit that isn't office wear or intended for the over 70s?

Pollyanna · 27/01/2011 21:50

Not next, or White Stuff - it really is very dull and the same every season.

I like Gap, Whistles, Jigsaw, Zara. and sometimes topshop.

also kew for work stuff (but know it is a bit meh too). and LK Bennett too (in the sale for work dresses).

Sometimes have got things of my-wardrobe.

I like Toast too, but I know that lots of people think that's very drab.

JemimaMop · 27/01/2011 22:01

Meggles are you me? Confused

Apart from Jigsaw (I have never actually been in one) your list is pretty much identical to mine.

I shall sit next to you and await ridicule Grin
