Would I be stupid to buy a wedding dress from this site?

I cannot afford one from a shop. These seem nice, and a bit of quick googling shows positive comments on bridal sites etc.

But I only trust the opinions of wise MNetters. So, any thoughts?

I would also echo Sexyher - if you can lie about the name swallow your preconceptions there are some lovely dresses.

I got this one for a ball and the quality was terrific - my friends all guessed it cost about £300

I think this one is pretty too!

BustleInYourHedgerow · 21/01/2011 00:13

June. Hence the panic:) Also just remembered that I am a shortarse and monsoon dresses don't really suit me, always look like I am 10 years old and borrowed something off my mum. I like their cardigans though. Pre marraige course tomorrow, 170 euro, what a pile of shit. Of course we are choosing to get married in a church, bit hypocritical I suppose, I love complaining about it though!

Hmm sexyher looking appealing now, Gretel. Will have to lie about where I got it! [snob emotcion]

I know! I think I made up some chi chi pop up boutique in London. Grin

Reminds me of fibbing when at secondary school and we could only afford to buy a winter coat at C and A. 'Twas a v.snobby school, so I used to lie pretend that it came from another shop. Wink

FanellaFidge · 21/01/2011 09:12

BustleInYourHedgrow - I got mine from Monsoon (well, it was a Monsoon dress from Ebay that I got BN for £40 Grin) and had it adjusted by a really good dressmaker.

I also looked at some on Very.

FanellaFidge · 21/01/2011 09:15

This one is gorgeous...and on Ebay it's half the price. Lots of other Nicholas Millington dresses on there too.

A gfew people I know have had dresses from Sexy Her and it may have been the style of dress, but I though they looked really cheap. Sorry. I also know a few people who have ordered from Light In The Box and the dresses have been fab. (not wedding dresses in either case mind)

You can pick up bargains on Ebay. I sold my brand new Suzanne Neville dress on there which had never been worn as I gained too much weight for it. Blush It originally cost £2400 and I sold it for £300 incl. postage. I was just happy someone would get to wear it.

teahouse · 21/01/2011 21:17

Don't know where you live but here www.thebridalroomwinchester.co.uk/
is closing down and selling off their stock - maybe you could pick up a bargain

mamatomany · 21/01/2011 22:41

You'll be fine providing it's over £100 and you pay by credit card, even if it goes horribly wrong the CC will refund your money.

Unicornlover · 22/01/2011 21:53

I'm getting married in 2015 but want to be well prepared as need to save up well for it. DP only has low-paid p/t job and rest of our money has to come from benefits as i am disabled

BustleInYourHedgerow · 24/01/2011 13:30

Oh I wish I was as organised as you Unicorn! Money situation with us is pretty dire too, so I can see where you're coming from. Keep me updated on how your dress shopping goes! Think I will go with bhs dress. Teahouse, I'm in Ireland:)

Hi, I'm also on a tight budget and have been recommended here some are expensive but there are a few within your budget.

or how about Sale!

Hope you find something you love xx

shouldnotbehere · 24/01/2011 15:20

I bought my dress from a bridal shop, it was an ex-sample on a sale rack. It came in at £344, and then with alterations, it was £380. Also I bought veil second-hand on Ebay.

I would give bridal shops a try.

Versie · 15/02/2011 13:47

Hey you might want to give this a try. A friend of mine bought her dress from this website and she was really happy with it.

bustle - what size are you? I only ask because I have 3 wedding dresses in my loft and I'd be happy to send you pictures. If you like any of them I'd be happy to send them for free.

fluffy91 · 15/02/2011 15:57

I don't know just how short of cash you are but I think ASDA do a wedding range?

People knock their clothing but the items i've bought there have been fantastic quality and outlasted more expensive, socially acceptable brands.

loveulotslikejellytots · 15/02/2011 16:06

I have an Eternity Bridal dress (D3039) in silver. Would love it to go to a good home, if you can find a use for it i'm only after postage costs. Size 20, slightly altered in the bust, just to 'fit' my bust a bit better. I'm only 5'3" and wore 2 inch heels on my wedding day so it's not massively long! It needs a few minor repairs (under skirt got a bit frayed) and a dry clean but like I said, let me know if you're interested.

tulpe · 15/02/2011 16:11

Was just about to link to Monsoon but have already been beaten to it :)

There is a Monsoon outlet store in Bicester Village. They usually have bridal wear available. Why not take the trip there?

BustleInYourHedgerow · 27/02/2011 00:29

Sweetheart, I've only just checked this thread, had thought it died. If the offer still stands, I may be interested! I'm a size 10. Loveyoulots, we are about the same height, but worried that alterations wouldn't work on the dress. Thanks for the offer though!

privategodfrey · 27/02/2011 00:35

If you read the 'reviews' on that site most of them have been posted by women who haven't even ordered let alone received the dress in question. They are basing the stars on how the dress looks in the pictures so it is very misleading IMO.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 27/02/2011 00:43

Sweetheart, didn't really thank you properly for your generous offer! I will of course pay for postage if any of the dresses will fit.
