everything is right - sex is determined by sperm, but some women, for reasons that remain mysterious to science, are more likely to let X or Y sperm fertilise their eggs / more likely to be able to carry one sex of baby to term.

Women who work FT and women who live with their partners are more likely to have male babies. If you want girls, stop working and/or live apart from your DH/DP!

DolceeBanana · 24/01/2011 10:24

Roman - camel toeing indeed! You do make me laugh!!!! Grin

Zembo - poor you. You must take some time out and get yourself properly better...Smile

Hells - happy birthday to your DD!!! Lovely cake! Glad you (and DD) had a lovely time.

Fritzi - love the Greek Islands...sounds like a fab holiday.

Zembo - house is near St Mawes.

Another malingerer here. Feeling very run down - and have lost voice (think it's Laryngitis, which I suffer from frequently it seems), after weekend of socialising...I really cannot do 2 nights of consecutive partying any more(truth be told, it wasn't even 'partying', more like quiet dinner with friends Hmm ). Sad ...early to bed tonight as looking as jaded as I feel unfortunately...Clearly I have the 'ravaged face of the aged,' as DS asked me 'why is your face like that, Mummy?' this morning when I went into him, and I rushed into bathroom to look into mirror, worrying I might have had a stroke or something , and saw I was frowning intently...so rearranged my features to a warm smile, and he said, 'that's better', 'you looked so dissapointed!!!!' !!!!!
Phew.....
Weirdly was ravenous before p. So, that's the reason!!!

Pooridge oats with rice milk and honey my fave too Cake! Yum!

None of this self-flagellation Angry. It isn't malingering - it is hibernating, which is an entirely natural and healthy reaction to January (and February) climatic conditions Smile. Curl up on the sofa and watch DVDs and read magazines until the sales are winter is over!

DolceeBanana · 24/01/2011 10:28

Pooridge oats...ugggh...you know aht I mean. Clearly, its indicative of my dcs obsession with anything poo related....

Did you know that apparently you can store hibernating tortoises in the fridge in the salad drawer. If you have several you can even stack them! Isn't that amazing! (not that there are any tortoises around here, but I still find the idea makes me chuckle).

Redliquorice · 24/01/2011 10:43

For all you HH and Temperley fans, look here

Secret Sales

macmama · 24/01/2011 10:47

Loads of really nice dresses (good for work etc) on sale today for under £25 in the Fever sale on Brandalley here

I would like to buy but am still on shopping ban!

notyummy · 24/01/2011 10:55

Am amazed at hibernating tortoises in the salad draw. Grin

In interview suit with silk shirt and new grey leopard print shoes for that little S and B edge.

Even after my sickness and hence weight loss last week, I still have a stone on you (at around the same height!)LTEC/Roma, so I am sure any dieting on either of your parts is not necessary. (Mine is all lean muscle....and my bottom!! Hmm) Perhaps that fish eating plan (Perricone) that involves eating lots of salmon for luminous skin. Don't stop eating or you wont be blooming! But yes - perhaps shredding for good muscle tone. V important for youthful air apparently.

LetThemEatCake · 24/01/2011 11:15

My beauty regime for the week will be

5 days of Dukan attack phase
3 litres of water each day
Holiday skin applied daily
Jog/ shred daily
Bed by 10.30, up at 5
Only 3 caffeines a day
Hot water and lemon/ lemon and Ginger tea
No skimping on day and night moisturising/ eye cream
Apply hair mask

Was weighing in at 8st12 pre-p, will be more now am sure. Will check on Sat. Would be good to be able to maintain an under-9 weight, simply because I am obsessed with numbers, not so much because it makes any visible difference.

mrsjuan · 24/01/2011 12:02

DH's friend has a tortoise hibernating business! I think she has a whole fridge dedicated to them!

Have you actually got an interview today NY or are you just wearing the clothes?! Good luck if the former.

Mac - it's lovely to read about your daughters - they sound wonderful.

DD is at such a funny / embarrassing stage. Took her for a quick drink & snack at sainsbury's cafe this morning (we know how to live Grin and she proceeded to announce a series of truthful but unconnected and very loud statements including: 'Daddy is not a pigeon', 'Mummy makes coffee with a noisy thing', 'owls say twooooo', 'I washed my bottom in the bath' and 'I've done a poo'. What am I supposed to say in response to that lot??

Am impressed with the dedication of operation beautification cake.

I am always hungry but perhaps more so before p if that's possible.

Zembo - hope you've managed to get seen today & have some answers

Glad you're feeling better Tracey - is DS better too?

FritziGreenEyes · 24/01/2011 12:07

roman The image of stacked tortoises hibernating in the salad drawer were the only thing that managed to make me smile today.

Another argument with DH this morning. I know he is stressed but said some pretty hurtful things and it's not like him at all Sad.

notyummy Good luck for your interview!

dolcee Hope you get your voice back soon! DD asked me the other day why I was angry. I wasn't but caught my reflection in the mirror and had that awful tense frown on my forehead, oh dear...

macmama · 24/01/2011 12:14

Grin mrsJ at your DD! I remember DD1 being at that stage

Go easy on yourself fritzi and I hope things calm down soon - I also had stressed morning (as was disorganised last night and paid price this morning). I was horrid and shouty and when I got to the school DD1?s best friend said ?why does your mummy look cross? Blush Out of the mouths of babes...

Then Dd1 and I had a big hug and I said sorry and she told me not to worry about it so feeling much better now ? determined to get rid of that horrible stressy me from our lives altogether!

NY outfit sounds good ? do you have your interview? Good luck if you do!

notyummy · 24/01/2011 12:17

Fritzi - Sorry to hear about the fight with DH. I can empathise, as stress can make DH and I can clash and pretty nasty to each other when stressed. I am probably worse than him tbh, but at least I don't sulk...which he does.

Yes, I have an interview this afternoon. I have done virtually no prep at all Shock. Will re-read application and background paperwork shortly. Not sure what else to do, but a few people have asked me if I have 'done all my prep ?'....and I have thought 'er...no! What am I supposed to do..??'

macmama · 24/01/2011 12:19

Good luck NY

I know you are busy but if you get time later I can really see you in some of the Fever dresses and they are MEGA cheap (Branalley today).

I have quite a few Fever things and find quality pretty good.

Snigger at camel toeing - conjours up a rather disstirbing mental image of crotches to-ing and fro-ing :shudders: Also sniggering at refridgerated tortoises and mrsjuans DD.

Am going to cut and paste Bonsoir's post and send to my boss. Am also going to cut and post LetThemEatCake's post and see whether I look as fab after 5 days! I may lack the dedication!

Stripey Janice had an outing yesterday and my fabulously stylish friend approved. For the record, I'm 5 foot and a smidge and another 34F so it really is flattering on all types.

Am considering constructing a spreadsheet to reference all those with similar colouring / body shape / size and asking MNHQ to then alert me every time certain posters post. I could be effortlessly stylish in no time!

Babyliss BigHair is next on my joining S&B cult must-have list.

LetThemEatCake · 24/01/2011 12:57

hello it'snotunusual

good luck NY Knock 'em dead!

fritzi am so sorry Sad We think you're wonderful and gorgeous. He does too, I'm sure! Big hugs in the meantime and hope a big apology is not long in coming. Stress is such a passion killer.

DolceeBanana · 24/01/2011 13:11

Thanks Fritzi...oh bother about your dh saying nasties...silly man! No excuse, but don't take it too personally. Said in heat of the moment and all that.

I have learned after many years of marriage (!) to ignore silly behaviour on my dh's part (:he's mostly a good 'un, but tends to be grumpy when stressed-don't they all Hmm?)...and quietly retreat to another part of the house, or depart for a walk with children, whereby he usually realises after afewdays a little while that I'm gone, and seeks me out..only to find me pull him up on his antics....Grin. Yes, trick is to make sure he actually says sorry!!!!!!

Interesting point Roma, but two of my examples have different fathers involved!

DolceeBanana · 24/01/2011 13:19

Like the plan Cake...have had a v Dukan lunch (chicken and poached eggs), with watercress and rocket salad...as am starting p; feeling grumpy, and; old looking, and; old feeling....what a little bundle of fun I am.

Oh, and Fritzi - yes, have the same expression permanently at the moment due to tiredness over recent exertions...

I am going to bed at 9 pm each night this week and hope to look, oh, all of 39 by Saturday????

One good thing though (because despite first impressions I am an Optimist)- I have been terribly wise for the last week. And mailingering illness does tend to commute the to fritter money....Hmm

OP posts:
DolceeBanana · 24/01/2011 13:20

the need to fritter money....sheesh....
