What a day! Been wanting to post all afternoon but been busy w DDs. After Lia threw up all over me (dear me), I decided would be easier to just take DD1 w to Westfield, else could get stuck in the family rooms feeding, changing blah blah blah.
Anyone else found their child became Seriously Good Company at 18 months' of age? Am so enjoying my time w DD1 -she is charming.
Re SAHM/WOHM debate, you will all want me to Shut Up, but I enjoyed reading what everyone had to say and didn't think we were disagreeing as such (IF that's what debating implies...), just voicing opinions based on our own different experiences. I find it really interesting and inspiring hearing how everyone has found their own particular way. And don't worry Mac, I know you are just sharing your experience and I hear you on wishing there were more women like you in your firm. One of the things I miss about my former life is the brilliant, lovely women I worked with. If I had stayed and seen them drop away I would have felt quite saddened. I am currently SAHM but its not something that I will do for more than the next few years - best for the entire family if I go back to work. We will need the ££ for the school fees (will have to go private in secondary school) as well as general household costs. And I need to do something for me soon, from an emotional and mental health perspective. I want to devote myself to my children now, but want to scale back when they are a few years old.
And Mac, one more thing, there was an article in The Times reporting that a study had been conducted on the happiness of children. When asked about what they wanted from their parents, they didn't ask for more time with them. Just that their parents were interested, involved and happy when they spent time with them. And you certainly sound to be all those things.
Looby - you are absolutely right, it was ignorant / insulting to others to say that a MC lawyer's salary isn't that great on a per hour basis. They still take home far more than many, regardless of the hours worked. My perspective can get skewed and good to get a friendly reminder.
Ooh - read and felt upset that you decided to leave, then pleased you changed your mind!
I really like the jacket you linked to. And I found myself nodding at your law post and also thinking v brave and self aware to be so v candid.
Esher - been meaning to say, I remember you posting that you weren't that good looking, but just liked clothes and make up. You are missing something - like MM, you have a real spark about you, that makes you appealing beyond conventional good looks (which you have, but they aren't as interesting as a "spark" IMO). Also, you have my heartfelt sympathies on the fussy eating front. Have almost bitten my tongue through not saying anything while DD1 flings food off her highchair that only the day previously she ate w relish. This week's phase is eating only the food off DH's plate. Better him than me, better him than me.
Carciofi and Cakey - yes, next Tuesday at 11:30am sounds great - so looking forward! Carciofi - what a lovely smiley face you have - bet strangers are nice to you w a face like that. And how cute of your DD to be in your gorgeous red shoes! Cakey - evening, my lovely. Bugger, I forgot to look in Dune for the studded shoe boots. Fingers crossed they have a pair for me when we meet up.
notyummy - oh dear, yes, good point about me not needing accommodation. Have come up w an excuse - sleep deprivation turning me into an idiot.
BTW Wonder Nanny rang - she is coming to work tomorrow - the crowd, they roar!
Marsha - ha ha, how cool that you have ordered those shoes - they look fun.
God, another essay from me - sorry!!
