ok so Ive been using Coco channel forever and went into boots tonight to choose another perfume but couldn't decide!!

I used to love Ralf Lauren Safari but now its discontinued.

I like quite heavy and strong perfumes - tell me what I should buy please!

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but my absolute favourite perfume is Caleche by Hermes.

It is really classy. You can get it in John Lewis (this is where DH gets my supplies).

Lanvin's Arpege is also gorgeous but quite heavy.

Joy by Jean Patou was always quoted as being the most expensive perfume in the world - don't know if this is still the case.

"Joy by Jean Patou was always quoted as being the most expensive perfume in the world - don't know if this is still the case."

It was at one point, but there are ludicrously expensive perfumes now. One I saw in Russia cost tens of thousands. And the Middle East's burgeoning modern perfume industry (Amouage etc) is throwing up some very expensive ones. Many niche perfumes are priced at around the 100-150 mark. And the Tabac Blond my husband bought me in the carefree pre-child 'throw money about' days cost 270 pounds Shock

But Joy is a wonderful jasmine perfume. I'm wearing it today. I think it costs about 60 pounds for the EdP.

So Pretty by Cartier

mathanxiety · 05/01/2011 22:38

Dolce and Gabbana L'Imperatrice

HotchpotchHoney · 05/01/2011 22:51

I live Stella macartney peony but I also line the acqua de Parma fragrances.

droves · 06/01/2011 11:36

Loreiliee . I bought gucci envy because it smells lovely in the bottle .But the minute it touches my skin , it changes the sent and unfortunatly it does smell like catpiss... but perhaps its just on me iykwim?

whoneedssleepanyway · 06/01/2011 11:46

prada

tis truly gorgeous

switchtvoffdosomelessboring · 06/01/2011 11:55

Pomegranate by Jo Malone is just lovely, as are quite a few of the other malone perfumes. But they are expensive.

switchtvoffdosomelessboring · 06/01/2011 11:56

actually its called pomegranate noir.

GroovyGretel · 06/01/2011 12:07

Another vote for Ormonde Woman here (though in winter I tend to wear Ormonde for Men!)

If you are in London, have you tried [[http://lessenteurs.web-epos.com/index.html?Mi2rpJlt/RZP3x6Nb6g9wOst7+O6edwHX5oJNaewjIalG88kF2FPEE+DLyZipViuiuBeKLrqzMgJ2onMSVHFQQ=
Les Senteurs]] on Elizabeth Street?

They do a wonderful testing service and samples (for a small fee) for those of us too far to travel in search of delicious perfume.

Although I love Ormonde Woman, I received a Tauer perfume for Christmas [spoiled emoticon] - l'air du desert marocain - I feel decadent and exotic when I wear it!

Rannaldini · 06/01/2011 12:17

sisley no3

pinkstinks · 06/01/2011 12:44

Alien by Thierry Mugler is just gorgeous, very strong and dark, always get compliments when wearing it!
Someone looking for a vanilla perfune should try Angel by Mugler, have gone off it after it is now sooo popular, but is still unusual.

MadreInglese · 06/01/2011 12:47

I love JPG classic, and I just got some kenzo Flowers for Christmas which is lovely

Hugo boss deep red is nice too

otchayaniye · 06/01/2011 17:26

"l'air du desert marocain"

I want it, I want it, I want it!

But I'm pregnant and my nose only likes soliflores at the moment. And I'm skint.

CointreauVersial · 06/01/2011 17:45

Just been given a sample of Lancome Hypnose, it's very different from anything I've had before, but I LOVE it, keep sniffing my wrists. It's not a light perfume, so might suit you, OP.

Verso · 06/01/2011 17:48

For decants of loads of different perfumes www.theperfumedcourt.com is brilliant. They are based in the US so shipping can take a while but the service is excellent.

otchayaniye · 06/01/2011 19:41

The perfumed court is the one I was thinking of. But 19 bucks for a 5ml decant of Tubereuse Criminelle? I'd rather just buy it unsniffed and resell if I didn't love it.

BuckingxmasFells · 06/01/2011 20:18

i love coco and paloma picasso, youth dew amber nude is gorgeous, cashmere mist, all yummy.

GroovyGretel · 06/01/2011 20:50

Otchayaniye, you can get a sample of l'air du desert marocain from les senteurs for £3...

Not that I'm trying to tempt you or anything Grin

redshinyshoes · 06/01/2011 20:54

Stella McCartney is divine!

My favourite is Chloe. By, um, Chloe.

Verso · 06/01/2011 21:56

Depends on which decants you want, I guess! The ones I've ordered haven't been too bad, and worth it for some of the more obscure ones...

JakeBrake · 06/01/2011 21:58

After spending 24 hrs on floor at gatwick am expert. Gucci rush nicer after a while, but fruity. I plumped for prada iris. The mend is also nice

swissmiss · 06/01/2011 22:02

I personally love Cashmere Mist by Donna Karen. Naff at it sounds it makes me feel like I'm wrapped up and in a safe place!
