Do I give in and buy Boden?

I'm not really into catalogue clothes, but I don't have time to shop. Are Boden clothes actually nice? Do they wear well? What are their sizes like?

(I'm tempted by some trousers, and there's a special 15% off thing for Ocado customers ... I'll put the code up if anyone's interested.)

And why does everyone use "Does anyone have the number for Boden?" as a way to stop an argument?

perhaps because shopping might at least be one subject people can agree on!

boden clothes are good, i've only ever bought during a sale. they do fit well, i'm a 12 and 5ft 2" and have never had anything not fit. the only thing i would say is dh spent alot on a cardi that i really liked, i still like it but it wasn't worth what we paid. but if i look around the school gate when i pick dd up from nursery, everyone's wearing boden.

I think Boden clothes are great - well made and they do wear well. Also you can always send back and their customer service is great. I'd love your Ocado code!

they're tough. tops are quite short in the body though.

SherlockLGJ · 22/09/2005 08:29

I think Boden clothes look lovely, but most of them are do no tunble dry, which I find to be totally impractical in this day and age.

stitch · 22/09/2005 08:48

i think they are quite expensive.
but mn might convince me to have a look at stuff fromm their sale.

clary · 22/09/2005 09:33

aaaah I love Boden
currently wearing boden boiled wool cardie
Only allowed to buy in sale tho as too expensive.
Love it esp for DS1, trousers and T-shirts really hardwearing.
He had a "magic" T-shirt with a rocket lolly on which he has now worn for 3 summers (he's 6 btw) think it is a bit small now tho but still looks like new

CarolinaMoon · 22/09/2005 09:39

Is it possible to be a mumsnetter and not wear Boden??

I've got this skirt in Buff and it is really rather nice (and still only £18, tho not many sizes left now).

oops

Hmm - love Boden - am wearing cords and wrap cardigan from there today . Sales are always worth waiting for.

Kelly1978 · 22/09/2005 09:47

they soo expensive tho! More expensive than most of the high street, and bottom end designer stuff. I looked once, and decided I'd rather stick with debenhams. Their stuff washes up really well, and is a lot cheaper.

Enid · 22/09/2005 09:49

i hate the women's clothes and they dont fit me (all wide and short)

some kids clothes nice though

triceratops · 22/09/2005 09:49

Nice but no good for tall people. Very good for kids.

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 09:59

The women's clothes look really sloaney middle aged sometimes imo, though there are some nice pieces (and of course there's nothing wrong with looking sloaney middle aged anyway if that's what floats your boat). The boys clothes are really rubbish though, I think- trying far too hard to be 'street' and failing and charging a fortune in the process. Some of the little girls stuff looks gorgeous though.

harpsichordcarrier · 22/09/2005 10:01

I am against it in principle because I can't bear those bloody twee captions on the photos... bleugh. and it is rather expensive.
but the men's/women's clothes are good quailty and seem to wash well. I would say they come up a little big.
Also, if you buy a quirky thing like an applique skirt you do run the risk of seeing it on someone else... if that bothers you.

pixie54 · 22/09/2005 10:02

I find their sizing for women definately 'wrong' - trousers never fit even though I'm a perfect 12 in Next and M&S.
Tops are on the short side.

However, the children's stuff I find fab - they fit well and wash and wear well too.

CarolinaMoon · 22/09/2005 10:03

Enid used to write the Johnny Boden stuff, didn't she?

i have a couple of a-line skirts with nice prints, lined with cotton sort of underskirt thing which i think is nice attention to detail. oh and one of their lovely french collar cardigans (cotton though, allergic to wool) which washes v well. the girls have nice hotchpotch t shirts which have worn well. usually buy in sale as i think they're pricey. dh has a pair of their pink linen jeans which are quite grooovy..

CarolinaMoon · 22/09/2005 10:06

I obviously spend a bit tooo much time lurking around here, don't I?

Must try and get myself a life sometime...

bundle · 22/09/2005 10:06

did you enid? i met a woman the other night who my fil said was the co-founder..do you know who I mean? (her dh is an author)

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 10:06

Did you, Enid?

CarolinaMoon · 22/09/2005 10:09

FWIW I quite like those captions - they are perkier than other catalogues at least.

Bet they were wittier when Enid wrote them [smarm, smarm]

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 10:15

I love to hate the captions. They are so smarmy and dreadful that I read them in awe. Did you really used to write them, Enid?
