I think you have to get there really early if you want to have a look in peace. Some crap, some surprisingly good stuff. The baby stuff is much better quality than the adult stuff. Not great for boys though.

teeavee · 13/09/2005 15:25

lots of places' clothes are not great for boys

noddyholder · 13/09/2005 15:43

I agree they are flattering shape and I do think they look nice but have already seen some horrors squeezed into them at our local market Not a good look unless v slim

teeavee · 13/09/2005 16:04

Mmmmm. Too many people are slaves to fashion - it can get boring when you see absolutely everyone wearing the latest trend (but also quite amusing, in a cruel sort of way, when they look bloody awful in it)

Hi Hausfrau - there's a TK Maxx in the retail park just outside Llantrisant - don't know if you know that area well, but there's a big Tesco Extra and a new(ish)retail park next door. There's also a NEXT, M&S, Clarks, Outfit (DP, Warehouse, Principles, Wallis, Topshop etc.), and a Boots there. (It's not the same retail park with Matalan etc. - diff. one)

There's also a new Retail Park off the Merthyr Tydfil bypass (As if heading towards Brecon from Cardiff) - there's also a Next, Matalan, Brantano (shoes), Argos (Might be Argos Extra), Boots, and a B&Q and Currys.

All within 20 mins drive from me either way - much quieter than Cardiff town centre!!! The shops in Merthyr are lovely at the mo - they're quieter than the Llantrisant ones and still very new (and unspoilt!!!)

HTH!

Nah, I disagree, I've bought some fabulous things in Primark and seen equally fab things on other people. Stopped a woman today, in fact, to tell her how much I liked her black cotton skirt with little Indian-style gold dots on it and yep, it was Primark. Some of the Monsoon-style kids' stuff is beautiful too.

wartywitch · 13/09/2005 21:43

No, cotton stuff in good nick. I have a gorgeous Jigsaw-style skirt in cream cotton with great big purple roses on it, that sort of vintagey look, which I got there for about eight quid last year. The girls have some lovely summer dresses - embroidered, sequinned, the lot.

wartywitch · 13/09/2005 21:45

ah you see vintage means thrift shop to me.

motherinferior · 13/09/2005 21:47

It really is a pretty skirt, warty, seriously, and there are some cotton/lycra T-shirts you'd adore there as well.

I think a lot depends on which primark you visit. The one in Harrow (london) is terrible: clothes all over the floor, far too much stuff crammed in etc.

The one in sheffield however is great. rarely are clothes to be seen on the floor, bargains to be found for kids clothes - not great quality but fine for the time my ds will need them, Plus i can afford them.

The shop assistants are no way near as rude as the ones in TJ hughes - I have always thought they must be employed for there rudeness alone; they certainly have no retail skills

For those of us with few pennies primark is often great!

I think you have to be one of those people who knows how to shop for Primark. I can never find anything good there and find the experience verging on hellish but my lovely shopaholic sister in law finds lovely bargainatious things in Primark on a regular basis.

soapbox · 13/09/2005 22:18

Following the threads on here extolling the virtues of Primark, I have gone into the shop quite a few times, and TBH I find it such a jumble sale that I come over all funny, turn round and leave.

OTOH, DH who is not a shopper at all went in there looking for pjs for the DCs found some lovely ones and pants too - god knows how he found the patience to queue - he is not a patient man

Now TKMaax on the other hand has become my new favourite shop.

I picked up Reebok footie boots for DS for £9.99 rather than £29.99. I got a Osprey of London (last seasons colours admittedly), purse (£120 down to £12.99), and cosmetic case (£79 for £7.99), a current season Furla handbag (£70 - no RRP but probably £250ish), penhaligons scented candles, Kenneth turner candles and Yankee candles, all for a fraction of the price.

God it was fun Bargains galore

Fio2 · 13/09/2005 22:18

we LOVE the one in Margate so nerrrrr

Fio2 · 13/09/2005 22:21

and we are the underclass honestly I have never met such a bunch of people that are so obsessed with being middle class

turquoise · 13/09/2005 22:30

Three times recently, terribly Bodeny mummies (one even models for the White Company) have complimented dd's clothes, only to look appalled when I tell them they're from Asda

soapbox · 13/09/2005 22:33

Fio - no!!!!

Bargain hunting is the new middle class obsession!

You can't even begin to pretend to be middle class if you don't shop at Primark, TK Maxx and charidee shops

Fio2 · 13/09/2005 22:35

well i have the finest selection of charity shops in the land

hello turq

turquoise · 13/09/2005 22:42
