This way ladies....

I have very dark grey thick lace tights, and think they are flattering on the legs - especially with a slight heel.

OP posts:
Romanarama · 18/10/2010 10:15

Any suggestions for online tights shopping? I want something like these broras but much cheaper as i always snag them on the desks in the office. The desks have little screws which sit there sneakily waiting for my tights.

I'd have cold everything in that IO shift which is why I'm trying not to buy it, though I really want to look like her.

I'm very excited today, as have found that I own this dress in navy blue. It was in my tights drawer - I vaguely remember buying it about 12 years ago - I wore it for my 1st 'proper' date with dh, with an Alexander McQueen silk jacket and Gina stilettos. Hooray!

LetThemEatCake · 18/10/2010 10:15

lace could be the answer - thanks NY

LetThemEatCake · 18/10/2010 10:16

here roma

ltec, I'm annoyed I've been beaten to it and I have my colour swatches out ready too!
Magenta is a winter colour (loved your bag on Saturday btw). Neutrals to go with would be: mole, stone, silver, grey, light grey, white, navy, charcoal, indigo.

Welcome mippy. Sounds like you had good advice there. I'm a bit clueless being shorter, flat chested, boyish shape and 40. Have you got any Gok books? Or Trinny&Susannah?

Sorry to hear of restless nights everyone.

I've forgotten what else I was going to say now. Be back later.

roary · 18/10/2010 10:57

Good lord - I go away on Friday pm and discover about 7 pages to catch up on!!!

We snuck off to Woollley Grange (I think Yummy is staying at a sister hotel soon?) for an impromptu weekend away, which was lovely. Except for the part when DD puked copiously with 15 minutes drive to go and I ended up puke smeared on my WC popcorn poncho and Lily and Lionel Red Leopard thus reducing my collection of warm clothes for the w/e by 100%. My brogues were the subject of an extensive compliment-fest much to the bemusement of DH. HOwever sartorially disappointing with lots and lots of Boden and Joules, with a couple of notable exceptions!

I debuted Vin's grey jeggings as well which led to me coming out to DH about my imaginary internet friends who send me clothes and explained you were meeting in RL on Saturday. He was most intrigued and wnated to know if you all called each other by pretending names or real ones?? SO, did you? I have visions of people wearing nametags saying Bloss and Cake. Am very jealous of the meet up.

I have missed such a huge amount I will have to catch up properly later but wanted to say LTEC that wedding situation just sounds so very unfortunate but that you sound like you have just the right approach to it. Just wanted to Tin of Salmon you :)

Bloss am thinking about organizing a Colours Party with some friends but we are deterred a bit by how long it will take and the fact we all have littlies....

carciofi · 18/10/2010 11:07

Hey ladies, thanks for your kind words and sorry I was such a moan.

Well done on the distinction, Verity.

That was a good find, Roma.

I feel a bit better as I have resolved to have a c-section no matter how much they try to talk me out of it. DH said that I can go back to Dublin/go private if necessary (but it is so ££). Also was a bit upset as my brother is emigrating to Melbourne soon but I will just have to visit him.

I ordered this dress in pink as it is on sale, is it too casual for a wedding?

Anyway, glad you had a good meet-up and the barn sounds great, Tracey.

Hi Mippy. I am not well-endowed either so no advice here!

Zembo, thank you for your research! I like the travelwrap in French navy but not sure how much I'd actually use it, beyond plane trips. I was thinking of ordering this in sapphire.

Off to buy jeans for DD.

carciofi · 18/10/2010 11:09

Roary, DH doesn't know that I post here either! I ordered your cashmere cardigan so thanks for the tip.

blossoming · 18/10/2010 11:10

roary, how awful. I hate puke. I also hate making an effort with outfits to go somewhere and nobody else has bothered.
There was 8 of us on Saturday and we were very good with real names bar the odd slip up. One good thing, my dh can't call them imaginary friends any more!
Colours do take a while. It's a very lovely indulgent way to spend a morning or afternoon. 2/3 people max I'd say. This because after establishing your colours they go through them again , grading them from 'excellent, wear head to toe' to 'wear 25%: as pattern, accent colour'. Try not to have to rush it.

Romanarama · 18/10/2010 11:14

Roary my dh knows nothing about this thread! I have no idea why - we have no other secrets. He's just not the internet type really, I don't think he'd get it at all.

Carciofi the dress is v.nice. Take a jacket or chic cardi to smarten it up.

If you go private you can arrange an early epidural. If your contractions slow they can just add cytocin or whatever it's called to the drip bag to keep it all going and it won't hurt. They you won't have to worry about pain etc nor recover from surgery afterwards. I can't remember whether there was another reason for the c-section - sorry if I'm missing something.

notyummy · 18/10/2010 11:37

Roary - sorry to hear about the puke!! We haven't been to Wooley Grange, but have done The Elms 3 or 4 times, and also the Ickworth. Always had a nice time, although agree ref the clothes....I mean obviously during the day it is nice to chill out, particularly in a place with a spa so clothes shouldn't be overriding concern. In the evening though, the whole aim of the hotel is to give you a nice 'couply' romantic meal (if you so wish) and so many people looked like they had just given up in general and were wearing old jeans, slip on shoes and scruffy tops. I wore black cocktail dress and fishnets lat time and DH heartily approved! Never knowingly underdressed etc ....

Roma - Wow! The Wolford dress is spray on..although I am sure with your willowy physique you could pull it off.

We bought this dress for DD yesterday after realising that she had nothing that could be described as a 'party dress'. She went to 2 parties last week, one in a corduroy dress when the other little girls were all prancing around like princesses in party frocks - luckily the other one was fancy dress! She looked so pretty in the new dress and was very pleased with herself.

DH knows all about this thread, and doesn't seem bothered. He has always been quite interested in my clothes and has found some lovely things for me in the past when we have gone shopping, so I don't think he minds me finding style inspiration! When DD was tiny I posted a few questions on mumsnet and got some really good ideas/advice, so even now he sometimes says about an issue we are discussing 'why don't you ask mumsnet?' He reads the Talk Roundup and sniggers.

Fleecy · 18/10/2010 12:12

DT110 think notyummy is your height and she wears wedges/heels?

So definitely not too tall - make the most of your lovely height.

I think they'd look nice with pegs or skinny black trousers and woudl work with with a tailored shift dress as well. Or a pencil skirt with shirt tucked in.

Gorgeous Smile

notyummy · 18/10/2010 12:12

DT - could wear to work with black pencil skirt? Some people teaming leopard print shoes with camel, though not my cup of tea personally. Also could wear with black or indigo straight leg jeasn - or well cut black trousers.

Personally (am same height btw) I would find 10cm too high. I would struggle to walk! My other factor is that my DH isn't really tall, so if I wore heels like that I would tower over him, and he is a bit peeved at the whole Sophie Dahl/Jamie Cullam thing (although a. I don't look like her - sadly - and b. he is taller then Jamie C!)

notyummy · 18/10/2010 12:14

Everything - my heeled brogues are from Giorgio at.....ASDA.

So, alas...not the Carvelas!

mippy · 18/10/2010 12:20

Ah, thanks for the advice. I have a work visit on Thursday and wondering whether a red dress is A Bit Much.

DTI10 · 18/10/2010 12:31

Thanks all. I can walk in them (I love heels but have been in flats for most of this year) and definitely not a mini-skirt (save those for non office wear!) - ha ha.

I will wear to dinner with HB dress this weekend and then in the office with pencil skirt and/or grey trousers? I have not found anything in camel (clothing) that suits me!

Right, am off to LK B, they have them in my size as well! Thank you all Smile.

Romanarama · 18/10/2010 12:37

DT I wear 10cm heels all the time and am your height, give or take 1cm. Well, take, actually Grin. But my experience of LK Bennet is that they are hideously uncomfy. Might have changed though, it's been a few years since I've bought anything there as have always thought eg Russell and Bromley much better quality for the same price.

NY - I've never worn the Wolford like that (sort of Helmut Newton photo look!). You can ruche it up into a mini dress, and that way you can't see the cellulite!!

traceybath · 18/10/2010 12:38

DT110 - love those shoes. I absolutely love leoapard print shoes with a red dress - knee length preferably.

notyummy · 18/10/2010 12:43

Ah, I see Roma - the photo of that dress is pretty eye popping! Now it makes sense...

OP posts:
bunnymother · 18/10/2010 13:15

DT - I could cry - I love those shoes, but too pregnant to wear heels. Enjoy!

Everything - I got flustered and called Fleecy "Fleecy" when we were introducing ourselves Blush

I tell DH all about this thread (well, just the amusing things). Notyummy - I esp remember that he thought your DH was v funny when he was yelling at you to chase the DHL man as obv he made a mistake, as there was no way he could come to your street without delivering something to you.

DTI10 · 18/10/2010 13:25

traceybath - you have got me thinking about a fitted red dress now. I do not possess a red dress (navy, grey and black in my wardrobe). Have you/anyone seen anything?

Romanarama - I too have the same problem with LK Bennett (and their return policy - no further comment), depends on the shoe!

I love leopard print!!

Back to work now. Will look in later for any ideas - thank you.

carciofi · 18/10/2010 13:43

DT, those shoes are fab but I also find LK Bennett very uncomfortable. I thought you could return within 14 days. This Anglomania red dress is lovely.

DH would want to see my posts so that's why I don't tell him but also asks me to look up schools etc on Mumsnet.

Roma, last time was horrendous so c-section seems preferable, at the moment. Although I am sure it is not a walk in the park either.

My-Wardrobe's site is down, just tried to open it for the second time and was prompted for my email address so they can send me a £50 off next purchase offer. So if you are intending to buy anything there, give that a go!
