i dont really suit winter colours, hence i bought purple a lot to moderate black ( hate chuffing brown) and i am sick of it.

there will be no more no more ever. even getting the stuff out of the loft made me sigh boredly

ooh will have to go to sainsbury's -- a very exciting burnt orange sighting! You are right orange is much more flattering than red and goes with so much, I love love love orange and blue together.

also forgot to add another colour I love is cobalt blue.

BirdyBedtime · 21/09/2010 12:14

I totally agree with the purple thing. I am a spring which is even harder to buy for at this time of year. Only seem to have any colours that suit me in Per Una (which I don't really like the style of) or Monsoon (which I love but choke at the cost of sometimes). C'mon shops what about some nice yellow, orange or green - not everyone wants to wear black, grey or purple in the winter!

RE the OP - my resolution is like someone else above, to buy a few better quality items that will last a few years rather than impulse buy poorer quality. I'm trying to build up a nice wardrobe of good clothes. I'm also trying very hard to resist two pairs of lovely new boots that I saw in our local shoeshop - both red which I love for boots but I can only really afford one pair (or else will be raiding the savings!).

MaudOHara · 21/09/2010 12:17

I love purple

TottWriter · 21/09/2010 14:04

I have a lot of black clothes. I wear them in winter and summer - I can't afford to buy clothes I only wear half the year.

I have black vesty tops which I wear with 3/4 length shirts, and if it's cold a jacket or my only coat (bought for me when I was 16 - I've never bought myself a coat). I have jeans and skirts for my bottom half, and for my top half wear whateve colour I feel like on a particular day. I have a lot ofmuted greens and browns (I like those colours and they suit me), with purples, reds and blues for when I fancy a change.

I find that mixing and matching makes your wardrobe accesible all year round, and sill allows for a varied appearance.

It's been a nightmare for me being pregnant - I had to go out and buy five tops to have on rotation as my clothes didn't fit, and a few pairs of trousers. I currently have two pairs of too-short black jogging bottoms, a pair of jeans, a pair of capris and a long skirt which fit my lower half. I have about ten tops which fit me, three are long sleeved, and on one of those the sleeves are too short.

I can't say I've ever really understood people having a 'summer' wardrobe and a 'winter' wardrobe, aside from a few rollneck tops or something.

Sorry, this is probably coming across as arsey and it isn't. I just genuinely don't know how I would afford to buy clothes more than once or twice a year. Aside from pregnancy necessities, I can't remember the last time I bought myself clothing.

mollyroger · 21/09/2010 14:06

my entire autumn/winter wardrobe is green and turquoisy blue Blush I didn't actually do it consciously.

ouryve · 21/09/2010 16:13

I love purple. I have dark, slightly salt and peppered hair and super fair skin and it's really flattering on me. I wear lots of other colours, though. All the teal that was in the shops last year looks really nice on me (and goes with purple :o) and I also wear lots of bright blues, reds and fuchsia, as well as, of course, black, though charcoal and lighter greys are beginning to suit me now my hair is greying.

Camel, like anything with yellow tones in it, looks vile on me.

Ronaldinhio · 21/09/2010 16:32

purple is bloody everywhere

c0rns1lk · 21/09/2010 17:44

PurpleLostPrincess · 21/09/2010 19:02

Oh my goodness - please send me all your purple stuff, I've been wearing purple and nothing else for years (way before it got 'fashionable'!). Seriously, if it's too good to throw and it's a size 22ish, I'll pay the postage!!!!!! GrinSmile

fairylights · 21/09/2010 21:04

ok can someone help with me with what "season" I am - am perplexed..
I have blonde-ish hair, very pale skin (although I tan easily) and I suit deep red, navy blue, black, dark green..
I definitely don't suit brown or orange or purple.
But do I need to know what season I am? Confused

kittybrown · 21/09/2010 21:53

I've always worn purple and shall probably always purple.

DontCallMeBaby · 21/09/2010 22:24

I love purple. Unwanted size 16 purple stuff over here please. :o I decided last winter to buy only stuff that was purple, pink, or neutral-goes-with-pink/purple. I think it suits me, I've never really known with colours - I've very rapidly become she-who-wears-purple, it seems to ahve stuck. I'm buying grey instead of black for neutrals.

Resolutions - find purple leather gloves, they're in the house SOMEWHERE. Buy new purple scarf. Do not lose it. Do not request replacement for Christmas (DB and DSiL got me one which is the wrong colour, is a big open knit which catches on the open hoop earrings I tend to wear, and came with a matching beret which makes me look insane). Seek out and buy winter hat which doesn't make me look insane.

musicposy · 21/09/2010 23:21

Resolution - to get some thermal underwear from marks. Sod the colour and the look; I am not being as cold as I was last year! Grin

minimathsmouse · 21/09/2010 23:39

Apparently Yetti boots are the thing for winter, might look good with the thermalsGrin
I was so relieved when the weather changed, excitedly got ready for winter clothes, boiling my brains out today in a cardi and long sleeve top, bl*y sun. I shall be wearing all the colours of the rainbow, just as long as it's warm, snug, soft and not manmade fibres.

mathanxiety · 22/09/2010 03:54

I don't own a single purple item, and never will probably.

I love charcoal grey, white, winter white, and black for winter, as well as light ice blue (not aqua though), dark teal and wedgewood blue. I have one nice fluffy navy cable knit jumper. I like tomato reds and deep raspberry pinks for winter too, and good strong bottle green.

BirdyBedtime · 22/09/2010 08:46

Fairylights - you can only really know what season you are by having a colour analysis. I was very very sceptical when DH bought it as a gift a few years ago, and was even more agahst at the colours that my season (spring) are supposed to wear, but some seriously bright lipstick, one turqoise suit, several yellow and coral items and numerous complements later I do agree that there is something in it. I also have to say that if you are blonde-ish with pale skin it's very unlikely that you will actually suit black (although it is very hard to wean yourself off it and I still wear my faithful black cardi sometimes).

Carrie06 · 22/09/2010 10:54

I have a purple pram and therefore cannot wear any purple clothing when pushing it:(

PurpleLostPrincess · 22/09/2010 14:03

I have a purple pram too, and purple bag, and shoes, and coat, and laptop, and clothes, socks, hair stuff, nail varnish, tv, bedding, carpet - EVERYTHING is purple here, you can never have too much purple!!!!

However, I can't wear purple makeup as it makes me look awful, I wear browns which really compliment my skin tones. I wear mostly plum type purples...

ParadiseRegained · 22/09/2010 18:54

I hate purple!! Lilac is ok, and I have 2 pashminas in 2 different shades, but I despise purple! I'm a big fan of grey and charcoal, deep reds are alright (AWAY from Christmas..too much of a cliche!)

HowsTheSerenity · 22/09/2010 20:54

Purple - you are not the purple lady who lives in Richmond are you? She has purple everything! Including hair.
