Hello all!

Cake - come back we neeeeeed you to tell us about your holiday....

Carciofi - tweeted that they were selling them - maybe worth a phone call.

Alternatively the Anya Hindmarch website customer service was fantastic so could be worth contacting them too.

Verity - I'd say the jacket is fairly light so not going to keep you warm in the snow but good for autumn/early winter

blossoming · 08/09/2010 18:58

Oh no, carciofi, that's terrible. Are there any other stockists?
traceybath must have started a run on them. How are you doing today traceyb?

traceybath · 08/09/2010 19:06

Am doing my own version of dukan - special k for breakfast and then protein and greens for rest of day.

So not dukan at all but low calorie/fat Smile

I think for me smaller portions is the answer - am just not good at cutting out entire food groups.

dexter73 · 08/09/2010 19:08

Carciofi - you could try calling Barbour as it says on their website that the coats will be available soon.

carciofi · 08/09/2010 19:10

Thanks, will try both Barbour and AH. Failing that, I am going to get Blossoming's Cameron coat. :)

notyummy · 08/09/2010 19:38

W and A Ladies. I Have Sinned.

It has only been 3 days since my last purchase.

(Hopefully the fellow catholics on the thread aren't too mortally offended...)

Passing H and M on return from a meeting these wedge boots fell into my bag. And two maxis. Can't find them ANYWHERE to link to. Plain black long sleeved t-shirt material plus a animal print chiffony evening one that I think is rather fab-u-lous.

I believe only this morning I told you I would be good.

That went well, didn't it...?

carciofi · 08/09/2010 19:49

Lovely boots NY. How did your DD get on at school?

hf128219 · 08/09/2010 19:53

NY 3 Hail Mary's should do it Wink

thirstymerc · 08/09/2010 20:16

I'm a long time lurker and very occasional poster on this thread. Just reading this week's Grazia and was really taken by the article written by a journalist who wore only 6 items of clothing for a whole month! (This didn't include accessories or underwear, but still!!!) Did any of you read it?

At the end of the article she suggests anyone wanting to try it should ration themselves to 10 pieces. I just wondered what everyone's key 10 items would be if you had to do it for a month this autumn.... answers on a postcard please (if you can be bothered) Grin

notyummy · 08/09/2010 20:31

Dd loved it Carciofi. Sooooo excited beforehand and a slight wobble when my mum left her, but no tears. Wants to know 'when do I go properly and have lynch and PE??'

OP posts:
notyummy · 08/09/2010 20:33

Lynch??

lunch

Hi thirstymerc. I don't think I could restrict myself to 6 or 10! However, hypothetically it would be:

Maxi skirt or dress
Striped ( or hooped...!) top
straight or skinny bootcut indigo jeans
either clog or wedge boots
military coat or parka
oversized snuggly grey jumper- to be belted
va va voom dress, inspired by Mad Men - as seen in the Prada show
Pretty shortish colourful dress to be worn with leggings or opaques
BIG statement necklace. Probably blue or green

vinvinoveritas · 08/09/2010 20:48

Hi thirstymerc! I am no style guru but I would think 10 pieces for a month (NOT including shoes, undies, accessories) would be easy. I am boring and like work clothes (cheating here) so mine would be: 1. black dress (dress up/down) 2. a short black (?) jacket or blazer or even a leather jacket, 3. a camel toned long cardigan (or coat), 4. a white/cream shirt, 5. slightly cropped cigarette trousers, 6 & 7. 2 pairs of jeans (for me these would be black or grey skinnies and some dark indigo jeans), 8.a navy shirt, 9. and a navy top and 10. a black top. Then add scarves belts shoes and bags et voila, emphasis being on very very exciting accessories (am I cheating?)

monkeysmama · 08/09/2010 20:49

I read that article too Thirsty and have found it popping into my thoughts a fair bit. I just wouldn't do it tbh. One of the things I love about my wardrobe is that I often wear the same 10-20 things for ages and then suddenly something else jumps out at me, or I read something and think "I own that" and I find it. So this season - camel coat yes have that (old and fuddy duddy last winter), leather skirt - yes have that, camel trousers, jumpers and cardis - yep, have all them (so boring last a/w), clog boots - ok so I bought the Topshop ones but my sister is so rocking the trend in my old ones from 10 years ago. In short, I love choosing one outfit from many that I've built up over the years. Wearing a new lace vest might feel good but nowhere near as good as wearing a lace vest you last wore aged 20 to an Ibizian club Grin only now I'm rocking it with a cosy camel cardi and skinny jeans. Interested in what people suggest on the less. And welcome of course. I'm going to love you forever for the KG boot link esp for me Grin.

My dad announced his new girlfriend tonight (when I cook him a lovely steak he finds it impossible not to spill the beans) and she hand makes shoes that were in Elle this month (& lectures at a uni in her spare time). I stopped listening at that point. What's not to like Wink.

Tracey I am pleased you've had some greens. I did Dukan without meaning to until 6pm - had an Activia for breakfast (& coffee) and then smoked salmon and an egg for lunch (I bought it so I'm eating it Grin) but at dad's ate a steak and salad (and a handful of to die for garlic and rosemary potatoes that melt in the mouth - & I am not potato fan) Part of my happy news of the night is that dp has lost 2.5 stone in 7 weeks. Good man. He looks brilliant.

I wasn't going to share but I can't stop smiling so I will! Best news of all is this.... When I joined this thread I immersed myself in shopping to forget the nightmare of life - my beloved dad was having chemo and I was literally petrified. Today he got the level 3 clearance which is about as good as it gets. I am so pleased I am going to forget all dieting and non drinking and am going to crack open a bottle of vintage champagne! Cheers girls.

monkeysmama · 08/09/2010 20:50

Bit if I had to choose I'd pick Vino's list.

traceybath · 08/09/2010 20:51

Oh MM thats wonderful news - Grin

thirstymerc · 08/09/2010 21:01

MM - thank you for the welcome, and more importantly that is fantastic news about your father. You must be over the moon. . Glad you liked the boots link, only sorry that no 7 available.

NY, Vin and MM - thanks for your replies re the Grazia article. Although it would be hard to choose first off, I think i'd quite like having a very limited number of pieces to choose from. I'm always pulling all sorts of things out of my wardrobe and getting in a pickle about what looks right with what. For that reason I loved my maternity wardrobe, as I had so little choice it made it a lot easier getting dressed in the mornings I think there's a lot to be said for very simple pieces accessorised with some statement jewellery, scarves, bags, shoes etc.

thirstymerc · 08/09/2010 21:02

Sorry - dreadful lack of punctuation in previous post. Must learn to preview. Blush

traceybath · 08/09/2010 21:06

Hi Thirsty.

I'd have

  • indigo jeans
  • indigo denim skirt
  • dress for going out - probably my anglomania
  • breton top
  • white vest top
  • blouse
  • cashmere cardigan
  • new barbour Grin
  • knitted dress for daytime
  • couple of scarfs

I think I'd be fine for a month but would spend a lot of time doing laundry.

vinvinoveritas · 08/09/2010 21:10

MM what fantastic news about your dad!!! (the clearance, not just the shoe making girlfriend, I am not that shallow Grin) oh fantastic! yippee!!

ps I might add a breton top to that list somewhere

nancydrewrocked · 08/09/2010 21:10

bunny I have a velour WC robe in small (I am a size 10 and TBH if I was buying again I'd go a size bigger.

hf128219 · 08/09/2010 21:11

MM That is fantastic. Clinks Diet Coke.

Haven't seen Grazia yet, but I would have 2 super duper waist-clinching shift dresses in black and grey.

Would have to throw in a suit for work - dull, I know.

Cigarette pants. Camel coat.

Ballet pumps. Biker boots.

2 sweater dresses.

A great big necklace.

notyummy · 08/09/2010 21:34

Great news mm !

OP posts:
blossoming · 08/09/2010 21:34

Great news about your dad monkeysmama. And well done your dh. Enjoy your wine!

vino, find me that navy shirt!!!!

I don't own that many clothes you know. (Shock, horror!) I was a bit avid with my purge earlier this year after having my colours done. I think I could do ten items quite easily. Did the woman have kids though?

Skinny jeans
jigsaw breton
vest top
b/f cardigan
leggings
tunic (how much do I hate that word?)
blazer
bec dress
need a shirt in there vino
my new barbour

I've always gone for expensive quality over quantity, but feeling slightly despondent right about now!

FritziGreenEyes · 08/09/2010 21:35

monkeysmama - I'm so happy for you and your dad!

thirsty - Interesting experiment. I think for autumn I would choose:

  • indigo skinny jeans
  • bootcut jeans or other pair of trousers
  • brown/grey leather jacket
  • cashmere cardi
  • white long-sleeved T-shirt
  • breton top
  • grey jersey dress
  • patterned chiffon blouse
  • black Bloch ballet flats
  • grey shoe boots

... and a big suitcase with lots of scarves, necklaces, coloured/patterned tights, handbags.
