Don;t normally pop my head above the parapet on here but wanted to share my bargain du jour which was a fab 'waxed'with needlecord collar style black jacket from primark £15 I think, fitted almost biker deliver boy but not that naff. Great for this chilly/showery/dont have a clue weather

FritziGreenEyes · 16/09/2010 19:29

Oh cake, I'm so sorry... This is just too terrible to imagine. Hope jeans arrive safely. Don't know how long the post takes from here to you.

Love the ankle boots/shoe boots/wedge boots you all have linked to. Will wait with purchase until I can get rid of cast and get back safely into high heels. Had a strange day today as spilt twice a whole cup of tea and just stumbled down the stairs (again) carrying too loads of washing Confused.

FritziGreenEyes · 16/09/2010 19:30

"two" I mean.

blossoming · 16/09/2010 19:36

That is heartbreaking ltec.
Incidentally I saw the tinned salmon gentleman this morning resplendent in three piece tweed suit and flat cap. God bless him.

notyummy · 16/09/2010 19:37

LTEC - I saw your news. Just so sad - there are many on this thread who I know sadly will also understand some of what that family is going through. My thoughts are with them, and I hope you are ok.

I am also jealous of your mums haul - has inspired me to have rummage in the charity shops round here for some knitwear. I use them a lot for Dds clothes, and books for me - so really should branch out to clothes.

OP posts:
notyummy · 16/09/2010 19:47

Cyb - sounds like a bargain! What are you going to wear it with!

Fritzi - Be careful! No more body parts in casts please.

DD still loving school. Although I was a little bit 'poor me' about the whole thing eralier this week, at the moment she seems to be thriving and particularly likes the Kids Club where she gets to play with/hero worship the older children!

Just casting my mind back to our discussions on menus previously, I felt I had to share my Beany Soup one. It is healthy, easy, veggie and delicious - and can be made nearly entirely from things in the cupboard. It reminded me to pass it on, because DD had it tonight and when she likes what she is eating she kind of 'sings' to her food whilst she eats in a strange way. Can't think of any better way to describe it, but its definitely a sound of appreciation:

1 red pepper
Handful fresh coriander (important that its fresh - makes a difference!)
410 can tinned beans, drained and washed
198g sweetcorn
150g pot 2% fat greek yog
olive oil
1 onion
1 tsp cumin
Pinch of chilli
600g tinned, chopped tomatos
500ml hot veg stock

Fry onion in olive oil and then add cumion, chilli and the chopped pepper. Fry for 6-8 mins. Add toms and stock, bring to boil and simmer for 15 mins. Stir in beans and sweetcorn and simmer for 5 mins. Season. Stir through chopped coriander and serve with dollop of yoghurt (alternative is a little bit of grated cheese.) Tis fab, I promise!

LTEC That is so sad. Will say a prayer.

Bloss Well done on the governor job!

Tracey I bought that M&S dress too.

NY Oh, I do love a good soup.

Bought a black knitted dress in Kew today and this jacket I really like it.

Also got some cowl neck tops in M&S for work. Dull!

LetThemEatCake · 16/09/2010 21:17

Bloss am so sorry I overlooked your news - congrats!!

thanks for your kindness ladies. It's so unfair that this ever happens to anyone, especially good, kind, loving people like my friends.

NY I know you are probably maxi'd out but would you like another? Prob no good now until next summer, River Island, size 10, as seen in photo in July blog "I don't dress for the school run"

if not NY then anyone else?

that's as far as I've got on clear-out so far, sorry.

I seem to have become fashion icon for the over 60s. Woman today admired my New Look boots and said they were just like a pair of £200-plus Agnes B ones that she was lusting after!! I was ever so glad to tell her "£20, tacky high street store ..."

blossoming · 16/09/2010 21:37

Nice haul hf. I may come to you for tips for my governors meetings!

Dh home from a bumpy flight from Aberdeen. Somehow I'm feeling quite squiffy. Just shared a bottle of wine and I seem to have forgotten dinner. Oh dear.

CHOOGIRL · 16/09/2010 21:39

Sorry been absent from thread real life...
I can't even begin to catch up but wanted to say congrats to Zembo and Bloss.

Also MM Hope you are having a good holiday - your mil story made me laugh out loud.

Cake so sorry for your friends' loss.

Had a bit of a mad moment yesterday and grabbed some CL boots in the Outnet. I do not need £400 suede boots even if they have been reduced so I am sending them back.

Not even started on AW shopping yet.

Had a look around Harrods the other day and got some new Chanel nail polish. Couldn't decide which of the Khaki shades to get so bought them all Blush

BTW I have a brand new Dukan book which I am never going to use - too restrictive. Any takers?

Zembo · 16/09/2010 21:44

Cakey so so sorry about your news Sad life really is so unfair and cruel sometimes.

NY glad to hear your little goldilocks is getting on so well at school. My DD seems to be enjoying it too although is only just realising that she has to go everyday whilst I stay at home with her brother on a couple of days. Thanks for the recipe, sounds great, will give it a whirl this weekend

Inspired by you lot I've started to sort out my A/W wardrobe, still have lots to do.

I haven't got a proper winter coat for my DS yet, he's still in the really thick 'fur lined' jacket/hoddy things from Boden. Last year he had a Polarn o pyret jacket (red) with a green fleece to wear inside it - totally loved it so will look at similar this year.

Cake I love the way you mix up your charity shop / high street / designer brands - sign of a true fashionista I think Smile Wish the charity shops near me were as good as yours!

hf128219 · 16/09/2010 21:44

Choo I have the Dukan book - it was great for a quick fix before hols but I don't have the discipline!

Christmas shop open in Selfridges today! Bonkers.

Bloss DH currently waiting in Rome for a flight!

blossoming · 16/09/2010 21:45

Yes I may be selling mine too Choo! did you get the bec dress?

Zembo · 16/09/2010 21:46

Thanks Choo hope your DD is getting on well at school too.

blossoming · 16/09/2010 21:48

Are you from that far north HF?

hf128219 · 16/09/2010 22:05

Bloss Scotland originally. Now in Surrey. Was that the question?!

blossoming · 16/09/2010 22:16

Sorry, yes I meant Aberdeen!

hf128219 · 16/09/2010 22:22

Bloss I'm with you now! Lemsip and a glass of Pinot don't mix Smile

notyummy · 16/09/2010 22:43

I have seen a gorgeous grey silk M and S Prada/Mad Men style skirt (I refer you back to my list...) in two magazines. I want it!

However - you know the way a few of us were muttering about how M and S was looking, erm, alright, this season....?

Well, if you want to scare yourself, try searching for a skirt on their website. I looked in Womens>New arrivals>skirts.

OMG! My eyes!

??

why?

could go on...but will stop

AND...I didn't find the bloody skirt. I assume not in shops blah blah.

I realise that M and S and trying to appeal to a wide demographic, but surely those things are a bit dodgy regardless of the age of the buyer?

I'll stop now.

OP posts:
notyummy · 16/09/2010 22:46

Oh, and LTEC - many, many thanks for the kind maxi offer. On this rare occasion though...I must say no to a maxi. (If it had been a winter one....Wink....)

I recently counted my summer maxis and I am currently up to 24 Blush. No more!!

OP posts:
bunnymother · 16/09/2010 22:58

Super quick post...

Bloss - CONGRATS Guv'nor!! Will look at links to red pashmina in the morning...

Cakey - oh how heartbreaking. They must be so sad.

Tracey - sounds like you were up at stupid o'clock - don't know how you do it.

hf128219 · 16/09/2010 23:06

NY Oh my goodness, what the heck? I was in the Marble Arch branch today and I did not venture into Per Una. The section was mobbed though!

Was the skirt part of the Royal College of Arts thing? They had about 10 different garments on display - don't remeber a skirt though.

this was nice though

rufus101 · 16/09/2010 23:51

Cake that is just heartbreaking. Sometimes I get very despondent, when I hear of these moments of despair.
Have to say, you don't look like a pear at all! I find though I have have to be v careful if I wear longish top. Long tunic is fine, but if I get it wrong, I look like my clothes are too big for me.
Bloss you so deserve that wine. I love that I now have a mental image of Mr. "Tin of Salmon".
Really like the sound of that soup NY. I have tried and failed every day this week with Dukan. I'll probably put on weight! I just can't do it. And I like my protein. (And wine and chocolate and crips) Those M and S are scarey!

LetThemEatCake · 17/09/2010 00:22

wedge ankle boot with low-ish heel??

rufus when I first got up the guts to wear skinnies, I just bought some Primark ones (£8) so that I could get used to the new silhouette without major investment (in case I found myself rushing back to bootcut). Wore them for the first few times with tops that had shoulder detail (buttons etc) to balance out my hips (which are very wide, but thank you for thinking otherwise). Anyway, this season's military stuff would be ideal for that sort of psyche-up, epaulettes and all the rest, good lower-body balancer.

Once I was accustomed to how I looked and had had a few positive comments from people, I moved on to Topshop Baxters (big spender, me Grin)

Zembo thank you for your sweet comment Smile And thank you all for thinking of my friends, it means a lot.
