I’m on day 4 no smoking in patches. Anyone else giving up for 2020?
I’ve smoked since I was 17 except when pregnant x2 and am now 45!! Time to knock it on the head. Would be great to hear from others who are taking the plunge! Smile

Can I join please, It's great reading all you progress, I hope I'll be able to do as well as you all are!
I've been smoking since I was 13, 20 a day and am now 37. I really need to quit, I have two small kids, I'm fairly skint and my forehead looks like a stole it off a 100 year old!

I quit last night, had my last cig on the way home from work at 5. I've been arguing with myself all morning about buying a packet but so far so good!

Murphs1 · 14/01/2020 10:04

Thanks to rocking. I spoke to quitters yesterday and they recommended to continue with the patches for the moment and I have an appointment with them this week so will carry on!
You’re all doing great so well done! The flapjacks must have made a nice change from the carrots!!
I know what you mean purple I am avoiding going out this month and have stuck to dry jan so far which is a bloody miracle Grin
Hi floaton, great you are joining us. One thing I have noticed is a change in my skin, it def looks less dull.
Have a good day y’all.

Welcome Float! Keep us posted with your progress and well done for getting to this point, sometimes just being in the right mind set is half the battle. How were your flapjacks, Stocking? Has your skin gone back to normal after carrot fest? 😂 hope the patches treat you better this time, Murphs. Felt fine yesterday and today, weekdays are defo easier for me! Can’t believe I’ve stopped for a whole week!

purplepenny500 · 14/01/2020 18:48

Also, thanks to everyone! This forum def helps me and I love to hear your stories.

Newbameforanewdecade · 14/01/2020 19:26

Hi all

Can I join in? Am now 11 days smoke free - never lasted more than 3 days before! Feeling rotten today though.

Rockingthestocking · 14/01/2020 20:38

Hey Float on. Welcome and huge congrats for getting here. It's such a scary decision to make!
I never made my flapjacks I'm afraid. Mores the pity! I could have done with some. Having a tough time at work and I get home and stuff my face instead of smoking, and trying to make healthy choices.
Hope those patches are working for you Murphs1.
Can anyone explain how you tag someone? I'm on the app on an android phone and cannot for the life of me see how to do it.
Is anyone using a quit smoking app? I got a free one and I love it. Tells me how much money I've saved, ciggies not smoked, health benefits achieved etc. I've found it motivating and helpful and would recommend.
Weekdays are hard for me as I want one after work so seem to fight all night not to have one. Weekends seem easier for some reason, maybe cos I'm with my DD and wouldn't smoke in front of her anyway. I used to make excuses to go in the garden for 5 minutes. She's 11 now so it was gonna be obvious soon what I was doing. That's such a massive buzz, not to be hiding from her or being with her but mentally I would have checked out as I was thinking how I could escape for a fag. God, how awful for a mum to behave, I feel really quite sad thinking about it ☹ so trying to focus on the positive change I've made. This is bloody hard isn't it!!!!

FloatOn · 16/01/2020 10:32

Hi all, so totally caved on Tuesday night and had a ciggie, but have managed to get back on it, and today I dont feel like I want one, though lets see how that goes as the day progresses!

purplepenny500 · 16/01/2020 17:01

Welcome, newbame! You have done amazingly well, stick at it! Don’t be too hard on yourself, floaton, the important thing is that you have stopped again straight away. Rocking, has work been any less stressful and it must be a great feeling not to hide it any more. I’m still struggling with getting home from work, I think it’s going to take a long time to shake the feeling that something is missing. I always really enjoyed my first one after a long day of not smoking (I would have two first thing in the morning and then not have one until 5ish)

purplepenny500 · 16/01/2020 17:02

And I don’t know how to tag anyone, sorry!

Rockingthestocking · 16/01/2020 18:02

Work so tough today...I cried!!! Ridiculous! I think it was partly because I am still grieving my fags. And I really am, it's so hard. Massive well done to everyone, we just have to take every day as it comes, and even every 5 minutes if that is what it takes. I remember being told the mantra 'This too shall pass' when struggling with sleepless nights with a new born, and I am using it now to get through this tough patch.
My no smoking app has awarded me with one day of my life back for not smoking and I have not smoked 140 fags since I gave up so that is keeping me motivated. What's helping to keep you on the wagon?

purplepenny500 · 16/01/2020 19:59

Sorry you’ve had a tough day, Rocking. Sometimes having a good cry can help! Keep saying, ‘This too shall Pass’ to yourself. What kind of work do you do? My app helps me too, deep breathing and thinking of all the positives also get me through the cravings.

Rockingthestocking · 16/01/2020 20:27

I'm office based and I am finding it really hard to manage dealing with a lot of the other staff. Most are lovely but I find some people so difficult to be around. Especially as my patience is worn thin at the moment 😁 at least I have a job and I do normally love it!
Just been to Aldi with my lovely DD for a weekly shop and bought a massive bag of carrots and 2 boxes of lemon tea to help keep me on the straight and narrow!!! 😂

Jayne35 · 17/01/2020 14:23

Hi everyone, joining in with your 2020 quits for my 4th quit attempt (of more than a month or so), First quit 2014 for 26 months, then 2017 for 7 months and 2018 for 12 months, stress is my trigger and the relapses have all been for some major stressful event. I started smoking at 13 and my first quit was when I was late 30s!

I always quit cold turkey, tried vaping and didn't like it and never tried anything else. This is day 6 for me and it isn't so difficult (yet!) as I was only smoking for a little over three months. I am worried about drinking though as I know I'll miss it then, also I am trying to avoid smokers on social occasions which is difficult as some close friends and family smoke.

I do find I'm very quick to anger in early quit days, so it's best to avoid DH and my DCs! Also I'm trying to read Allen Carr's Easyway. I find it helps to focus on the not so obvious benefits of quitting - hair and nails nicer, less chance of gum disease and loss of teeth, better sleeping patterns, regular bowel movements (who knew smoking disrupted that too!)

purplepenny500 · 18/01/2020 19:56

Hi Rocking, how are the carrots and lemon tea working out? Difficult colleagues can be be the devil and cause so much stress! Welcome Jayne, great you have joined us! Good luck with your journey and keep us updated, hopefully this time will be for good! I have read Allan Carr, I didn’t stop smoking for longer than a week after reading it but it certainly made me feel differently about smoking. I’m going on holiday next month and I’m a bit worried about sitting in the sun with a cocktail without smoking so I’m tempted to get a nicotine free vape, anyone tried this or have advice for not smoking on holiday?

Murphs1 · 18/01/2020 22:09

Hi all, glad you’re all doing so well. I’m still on the patches, good days and bad days. Has been stressful this week as have had the downstairs decorated and it has been chaos, still trying to get straight!! Great your’e joining us newbame and Jayne. Hope everyone’s having a good weekend Smile

Welcome Francis! I agree, it’s certainly the habitual side that is difficult for me, I don’t WANT a smoke but I feel like I want something and it can be tricky to fill the gaps, I feel that cleaning, excercise and a hot drink help me. That’s great that you are feeling good, Rocking! How’s your decorating looking, Murphs? My two week anniversary tomorrow! So chuffed.

Murphs1 · 20/01/2020 18:15

Well done purple 2 weeks is great! You feel like you’re really getting somewhere when you reach that mark, and it is sposed to get easier from there on in.
Yes is nice decorating, my husband is just freaking out slightly at all the other bits you have to buy when you decorate a room! Grin

I quit the day before NYE. I had a bit of a health scare so for me quitting is driven mainly by fear and concern for my future health than anything else. I'm 35 and have smoked since I was 14 or so.

So far I've cracked twice and had a grand total of 4 cigarettes. Both times was when I was drinking wine. It's SO hard to not smoke when I'm having a vino but other than that it's not usually bothering me yet.

purplepenny500 · 21/01/2020 20:11

Welcome Mind! I’m the same age as you, I hope you’re feeling better after your health scare and well done for stopping! Alcohol is a major trigger, would avoiding it for a while help? Murphs, of course there are things you HAVE to buy when decorating!

MindYours · 21/01/2020 21:59

@purplepenny500 thanks yes I've cut down on the booze too. It's actually easier to stop both at once as for me booze and fags go together like egg and chips! I really, really don't want to smoke so it's putting me off drinking too

user764329056 · 22/01/2020 17:33

Can I join please? Am on day 2 of no cigs and today worse than yesterday as had a patch yesterday, don’t have anymore left and using nicotine gum but badly craving.
Have been a heavy smoker for decades, quit for 2 years before but something always sends me back
Great to read all the postings

Murphs1 · 22/01/2020 18:39

Ah great you’re joining us mindyours. A health scare certainly would put things in perspective and is a great motivation I would expect. We are nearing the end of January now so almost a month down for you. Hi user76 etc! I found the 1st 3 days the worst but gets easier after that. It can be done! Smile I’ve found this thread to be really helpful, knowing there’s other in the same boat, everyone’s really supportive.
Glad you agree regarding accessories when you’ve decorated purplepenny Grin
