I’m on day 4 no smoking in patches. Anyone else giving up for 2020?
I’ve smoked since I was 17 except when pregnant x2 and am now 45!! Time to knock it on the head. Would be great to hear from others who are taking the plunge! Smile

I can't stop eating!!! And drinking tea ha ha!!! I'm finding it relatively easy I think. I used to smoke pot every day, did so for 20 years and was addicted completely but made the decision to quit that 18 months ago and succeeded. The plan was to then give up baccy but it's taken me longer than I thought to be mentally prepared and ready but now I am. The baccy is just as hard as pot, but I think my relatively recent experience of quitting something has helped me understand what I'm letting myself in for. I'm so very very proud of myself so being fat because I've given up drugs is neither here nor there. I'll deal with that in a few months.

Murphs1 · 06/01/2020 20:26

That’s good you’re finding it relatively easy, and great you’ve given up pot, as you have an idea of what to expect. Yes you should be proud of yourself, we can do it Smile
Hope everyone else is plugging on as well.

I did ok today. I can smell everything for the first time in ages. Most things smell horrible. 😂 Feel quite bleak and nihilistic but not as bad. Eating a bit more than I'd like, but nothing major - a couple of hundred extra calories maybe.

Murphs1 · 06/01/2020 21:20

Ah well done obligatory, I think the main thing is the change when you’ve smoked for a long time it feels like something is missing. They say when you think about it carefully though, that cravings only last a few minutes and each one you acknowledge but don’t smoke is breaking the connection to your brain which makes you crave the next ciggie. And on and on it’s goes. It’s all about breaking the cycle and after the 1st 2 weeks it improves dramatically... apparently! confused]Smile

Yes. I read that about the cravings yesterday, realising it will pass helps!

Rockingthestocking · 07/01/2020 08:22

Morning all, Hope you slept well. It took me ages to drop off, but finally about 2am I think I fell asleep. I didn't wake in the middle of the night with sweats or racing heart so I see that as real progress. I have had a fruit smoothie (new smoothie maker for Christmas!) for breakfast so I feel energised and healthy for once! I'm finding the cravings are much less now than the first few days which is helping me cope. I also have some chewing gum to keep me going, and am off to the shops to buy carrots later to try to give myself healthy nibbles. Good luck today and stay positive!

Murphs1 · 07/01/2020 09:02

Morning all, yes I was the same last night couldn’t get to sleep, and am having major cravings this morning. Very nearly brought some on the way back from the skool run. But haven’t and am not working today so will get on the treadmill for a while and get my cleaning done and try to remember all the positives about not smoking Confused
Not feeling that happy energy this morning!! Glad you’re feeling positive stocking. The carrots are a good idea for the evening, think I’ll get some too later. Have a good day all.

Not as bad here today, headache and the odd powerful but short craving.

Murphs1 · 07/01/2020 18:05

That’s good obligatory. My cravings def subsided after going on the treadmill and have been ok since so am please I didn’t caved in. Almost a week down Crown Smile

It's amazing isn't it?

Rockingthestocking · 07/01/2020 21:41

Awesome you didn't have in Murphs1! A big pat on the back. I have been munching carrots all night to keep my mind off the cravings. At least if I can't sleep again tonight I will be able to see in the dark 😃

Murphs1 · 07/01/2020 22:56

Ah thanks rocking Smile that made me lol re the carrots Grin

Well done to everyone! I’m on day 1, I have been taking Champix and listening to Max Kirsten’s quit smoking app. Wish me luck!

Notsodomesticgoddess1 · 08/01/2020 06:06

Quit since December 24th, it’s the habit I struggle with and ended up caving on the 6th and again twice yesterday. Although I’ve never made it passed one craving in other attempts! This thread is very helpful, and it’s not worth it whatsoever I can imagine how great I’d feel if I hadn’t had a few cigarettes!Blush

Murphs1 · 08/01/2020 10:10

Morning all, ah great to have you join us purple penny, good luck, I know a few people who have quit with champix and it helped them a lot.
Ah don’t beat yourself up domestic goddess, just think of all the cigarettes you didn’t smoke. They say every time you try to quit, you learn something new that will help you with your future quit, so don’t be too tough on yourself.
Hope alls well rockingthestocking and obligatory. Have a great day Smile

Rockingthestocking · 08/01/2020 17:29

Hi all, welcome purple.
Firstly, as Murphs1 said, think if the ciggies you haven't smoked, don't beat yourself up over the ones you have.
I actually slept last night!! It feels like a huge milestone! I dropped off really easily and my alarm woke me at 7am this morning so I slept so well.
I hid my smoking from DD11 and my mum and work colleagues so I don't have anyone to share my successes with really. I don't want to talk to DH about it as I feel bad that he hasn't quit and I don't want to make him feel bad about himself if that makes sense?! So anyway, this thread is helpful as I can say yay me and celebrate my achievement. And of course help support you all too. We are doing brilliantly. Please please keep going. It took me so long to be mentally prepared for this that I refuse to give in to my cravings. Absolutely bloody refuse to. Stay strong and eat carrots😀🥕🥕🥕

Obligatorync · 08/01/2020 17:56

Hiya everyone and welcome purple. We will celebrate with you rocking! Looked in the mirror today and my teeth are a different colour! Still not amazing but definitely not yellow!

Rockingthestocking · 08/01/2020 18:01

Ah obligatory....mine are def yellow so am jealous of you. I'm gonna treat myself to some posh whitening toothpaste as I normally just buy cheapest one as it wasn't worth it. That's another bonus I hadn't considered and another benefit to stopping smoking. Brilliant thanks!!

Murphs1 · 08/01/2020 18:30

Yes well done rocking and obligatory, we are all handing in there, so be proud of yourself, day 8 I’m so chuffed!!
I also slept last night which is great, I had a bad cough over Xmas and that is finally going, not feeling full of energy just yet but my skin looks brighter for sure. Will examine my teeth closely later Grin

colourbynumbers · 08/01/2020 18:54

Keep going guys...you can all do it!! You're all doing amazingly 😊

I quit on 1st January 2019 so it's been just over a year for me!

I smoked 20+ a day for 15 years and I quit cold turkey - only caved once in the first week after a couple of glasses of wine...I had 2 puffs of a cigarette and was so upset with myself afterwards!

Now that it's been more than a year without smoking, I really feel the benefits.

If I can do it, so can you! Good luck x

purplepenny500 · 08/01/2020 18:57

Thank you for the lovely welcome messages! Day 2 and going strong! I actually did some exercise when I got home from work which is unheard of! Keep going everyone! Buying some whitening toothpaste is a great idea. So lovely that some of you are sleeping better!

purplepenny500 · 08/01/2020 19:02

Also, what are everyone’s trigger points? Mine are as soon as I wake up and make a coffee and as soon as I get home from work( I don’t smoke at work). I’m sure drinking alcohol will be a major trigger so I’m trying to avoid it for a while.

Rockingthestocking · 08/01/2020 19:36

Mine are as soon as I get in from work. Weirdly, not when I drink alcohol.hooray for that!!! I don't think I'm ready to quit drinking yet!!
