Is anybody doing it this year. I recently had a baby, I stopped all together. Very proud of myself however I started a few months after DS was born. I’m currently having 5-6 cigarettes a day. Desperately want to stop. So is anybody doing it this year?

Well done to you all for taking the plunge to quit. I have been smoke free now- completely cold turkey for 35 days- would have been 36 but on Saturday I caved and had 2. As soon as I took the first draw of that cigarette on Saturday it tasted like the first time I ever tried it, absolutely disgusting! I felt awful after it. I don't know why I went and had another. I had been doing so well (I'm actually 16 weeks pregnant, please don't judge me for having a ciggy, I just had to try it as it was all I could think about) but the last week the cravings had returned as if I was withdrawing all over again. But it's done now, no more. I know that even if I get a craving, the taste is enough to put me off going through with it. I need to do this for my baby and for me.
Good luck to you all. We can do this!

LeahSMS · 09/10/2019 11:19

@killerqueen9 don’t beat yourself up you’ve done so well so far. We have to do these things just to learn. Your doing amazing!! How is your pregnancy going?x

Chippydippy · 09/10/2019 11:26

No judgement from me @Killerqueen9 you're doing really well.
@LeahSMS Well done for getting through your craving yesterday. I'm only day sodding 4 today and I'm feeling a bit crap. Horrible taste in my mouth, had a shit nights sleep and just feel generally low. Not given in to any cravings though (yet)

LeahSMS · 09/10/2019 11:28

@chippydippy are you still using your spray & inhaler? I’m still vaping but 6mg I am constantly craving even if it’s mild.

Killerqueen9 · 09/10/2019 11:36

@LeahSMS it's been good thank you have been really lucky and not experienced any nasty symptoms apart from the exhaustion! The worst part has been having to stop smoking! It sounds so wrong to say but I enjoyed smoking, it was just that little time to myself I could go outside and forget about everything. I now find that on my days off I barely even go outside because I miss sitting in the garden and smoking. How awful is that? Still think about it all the time, still dream that I'm smoking. I hope eventually all these thoughts will fade. I thought they would have by now.

Chippydippy · 09/10/2019 14:33

@LeahSMS yes I'm still using them, and gum and lozenges too! I'm always craving and nothing is hitting the spot but it is helping.

@Killerqueen9 I can relate completely to missing smoking. I enjoyed it too and loved my time in the garden having a smoke. I miss being out there! I used to love my morning fag watching the birds come down to feed and everything was so peaceful. The evenings just being out there in the dark looking at the night sky Sad I know those things will always be there but it's just not the same popping out there

Littlechocola · 09/10/2019 23:59

@Killerqueen9 no one will judge you. You had a blip and you are back on track. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I’m still going! I had a glass of wine at an event this evening and could smell cigarette smoke and really wanted one! I didn’t and I’m proud!

9 days!

Chippydippy · 10/10/2019 19:53

Well done Little you should be proud!
I'm struggling tonight. It's all I can think about. I'm finding it hard to understand why the actual fuck I quit. I miss it so much. Feeling very emotional, smoking is something my dad and I would partake in together (he passed away in July) and I feel like I'm losing that special bond over smoking we had, even though it's already gone. Stupid I know.

How is everyone else doing?

LeahSMS · 10/10/2019 21:13

Hey guys

@Littlechocola your doing so well how are you today?

@Chippydippy I also loved Smoking especially in the morning and evening I miss it too. I’m sorry to hear about your dad. Your dad would be proud of you for making this step. How are you feeling?

@Killerqueen9 how are you doing? I feel the same about morning/evening smoking just so nice to have some time to yourself. How are you & BaBa Doing?

LeahSMS · 10/10/2019 21:14

@Chippydippy I’m doing okay I’ll admit I had a cig last night only because I ran out Vape juice & it was too late to get some more I didn’t enjoy it. But I stopped myself this morning from having a cig before I got my vape juice so I guess all Is not lost Smile

LeahSMS · 10/10/2019 21:16

@Littlechocola you did amazing not to smoke when drinking I’m dreading crossing that bridge I’d chain smoke while drinking

Littlechocola · 10/10/2019 21:32

We are all doing well!

Honestly do recommend Allen Carr. I almost feel brainwashed!

Chippydippy · 10/10/2019 21:48

I'm not feeling as bad as I was earlier. Had a bit of a cry which I've been holding in for a while.

I have the Allen Carr book but only read about the first 40 or so pages. Is it really worth picking it up and finishing it? I know that it doesn't recommend giving up until you've finished the book and that concerns me a bit, like it's giving me an excuse to smoke again

Chippydippy · 10/10/2019 21:51

Leah I'm actually a bit jealous you had a cig last night, I bet it tasted foul though. I walked through someone's cig smoke today and got a mouthful of it, wasn't good!

Littlechocola · 11/10/2019 07:48

@Chippydippy it does say in it that if you have already stopped not to start again. I’ve found it amazing.

I’ve worked out that my ‘pangs’ seem to be every other day and are just a slight hungry feeling. Peppermint tea seems to help.

Chippydippy · 11/10/2019 08:09

Ok thanks Little I will definitely carry on reading it. This morning is the closest I've been yet to popping round the shop to buy cigs. I even got ready early for work so I'd have enough time to do it. I haven't though. I'm sat here with a coffee feeling very moody

Littlechocola · 12/10/2019 10:09

@Chippydippy I’m just coming out of the sulking bit! I was like a stroppy teenager! You nearly went to the shop but you didn’t!

I had a bottle of wine last night and wanted one. I’m so glad this morning that I didn’t!

A few people have mentioned how my skin is looking good and how I look more alive. One even said younger! Only one of these people know that I have stopped smoking. That’s definitely given me a boost!

Chippydippy · 12/10/2019 10:58

Little I am so impressed that you had a bottle of wine and didn't smoke! Well done. Are you doing it cold turkey? I did try to look back through to see but I just feel too foggy today to read anything properly.

I've cut down massively on the nicotine replacement. I'm only having one spray in the morning, one after lunch and a piece of gum in the evening. I will have a third spray if my after dinner cravings are really bad.

I have been feeling quite depressed last couple of days, hoping it won't last long. I'm hoping my skin improves too, good to hear that you are getting compliments on yours.

How is everyone else doing?

Littlechocola · 12/10/2019 11:04

Yep, cold turkey.

I had the spacey/foggy bit too, it was horrible but didn’t last long.

Are you only using the spray?

Chippydippy · 12/10/2019 11:31

I'm using the spray and one piece of gum a day. Not bothering with the lozenges as they made me feel a bit unwell, think they are just too potent and the inhalator I've given up on because of the uncomfortable feeling in my mouth and nose.

How's your appetite? I'm starving all the bloody time. I am worried about weight gain as I have a history of eating disorders.

Littlechocola · 12/10/2019 17:29

I haven’t heard of the one a day gum. Is it good?

I am hungry a lot but I’ve also got more energy so running around more. I need to gain but am making sure that I have healthy snacks such as fruit and nuts.

Chippydippy · 12/10/2019 17:41

It's not a special one a day gum, just the normal nicotine gum but I'm only using one piece a day.

I remember the days of needing to gain weight, how I miss them! I think if anything makes me fall off the wagon it'll be weight gain Sad

Littlechocola · 12/10/2019 17:59

Ahh I see.
I’m here as a hand hold if it gets too much.

I’m worried because I usually get to three weeks and ‘try’ a cigarette. I’m determined not to!

SimonJT · 12/10/2019 18:11

Day 12, but I am vaping on 15mg, so cheating. I upped my Anti D’s four weeks ago in preparation.

I’m not a heavy smoker, one on the way to work, one on the way home and two or three before bed. I have the occasional night where I will chain smoke for a couple of hours, which I really enjoy.

Most of my friends smoke, it has been very hard not to literally steal fags from their mouths.

LeahSMS · 12/10/2019 18:32

Hope everyone is doing okay. I’m still craving cigs once a day usually, I’m still on the vape. We are all doing so well. Welcome @simonJT I find it very hard being around people that smoke it’s so tempting just to say can I pinch one or have a drag or two Grin
