Are all step families like this?

Got one living next door to me, the most utterly selfish couple I have ever met. Second weekend in a row of them being loud up until all hours.

She has three children to a previous partner and has the youngest with her current partner. She does 2/2/3. This is her weekend with all four of them. But last week she packed off the youngest for a stay overnight so they could be up all night keeping us awake talking at pub level volumes.

Currently have two of their friends visiting and they are all loud. We have spoken with them in the past to please keep down the noise which was met with "can you not wear ear plugs?"

Absolutely selfish individuals. As long as they get their way. We are fed up reporting them to the council.

No one else in the street carries on like this. Just them. We are all up and going about our business early yet they don't get moving around til at least noon at the weekend.
Is this common with step families?

This family is obviously giving all other step families a bad name then...I don't know any other like them.

WTF? Your neighbour being an inconsiderate arse is nothing to do with the fact that her children have 2 different fathers. HTH.

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 28/02/2026 20:49

Unclench @user1476613140 and stop trying to rage bait!

No she isn't. You may as well say she gives brunettes a bad name or left handed people a bad name.

SecretSwirrel · 28/02/2026 20:49

Eh? What planet exactly have you just come from? All families are different. Your neighbours may be noisy but I think you deserve this for being such a bigot.

I think you're missing the point. I don't know any nuclear families behaving like this because they do stuff usually at weekends with their DC. NDNs just spend weekends getting pis*ed. The youngest is 4yo and kept up all night.

Yes, all step families are like this. Even though my DSD is married with her own kids, DH and I still stay up all night being loud just we can annoy our neighbours. 🤨

user1476613140 · 28/02/2026 20:52

Not trying to stir up hatred at all. Genuinely wondering if this is something that goes on amongst step families where they behave like this?

😮I didn't know it was just step-families who were unsociable!
Thanks for letting us all know, I will keep my eyes 👀for the

janietreemore · 28/02/2026 20:55

Definitely not. There are loud antisocial selfish and indeed bad parents both step and birth. Bad luck to be living next door to these guys, so stressful for you.

PevenseygirlQQ · 28/02/2026 20:58

I don’t think this has anything to do with them being a Step-family and think its odd thats the conclusion you have drawn as to why your neighbours are shit

Thank you. That's all I was asking. Yep it's not the best of luck. They will be getting disturbed in the morning 6am as our TV is up against the party wall. They often don't shut up till 2.30am.

What absolute sanctimonious bullshit.

Bugger off back under your bridge!

You’re giving step families a bad name by spreading all this shite, your neighbours being anti social knobs is nothing to do with them being a step family.

I grew up in a step family - the parents are nurses and teachers and the children are now doctors, police officers, accountants.

Don’t be such a judgemental shitbag.

There are no other step families in the street of 12 houses. They're the only ones being loud. Everyone else is quiet and respectful. That's why I have asked.

I feel for you, I would be climbing the walls. Have you thought of sound proofing the dividing walks?

I have heard mixed reviews about this so I don't want to risk wasting money.

Ahh yes, a sample size of 12 for your sweeping judgement of millions of families 🙄

So? 😂 Still weird you have drawn that conclusion. You seriously don’t know or have ever come across step families?

It can help. So do carpets with good underlay and thick curtains. Anything to absorb the din.

Nevermind17 · 28/02/2026 21:04

We’ve been a blended family for almost 20 years. I’m kicking myself that I’ve missed a trick. We’ve always made a concerted effort to communicate respectfully and I can count on one hand the number of rows we’ve ever had. Who knew we needn’t have bothered? 🤷🏻‍♀️

user1476613140 · 28/02/2026 21:06

I genuinely don't know anyone in a blended family, no. That's why I started a thread about it!

OP posts:
FoxLoxInSox · 28/02/2026 21:07

Does this woman have brown hair perhaps? If so, you’d have made just as little sense in posing the question: “do all families where the mum has brown hair cause this much noise?”

Totally stupid. And knowingly rage-baitey.
Boring. Next!
