Are all step families like this?

Got one living next door to me, the most utterly selfish couple I have ever met. Second weekend in a row of them being loud up until all hours.

She has three children to a previous partner and has the youngest with her current partner. She does 2/2/3. This is her weekend with all four of them. But last week she packed off the youngest for a stay overnight so they could be up all night keeping us awake talking at pub level volumes.

Currently have two of their friends visiting and they are all loud. We have spoken with them in the past to please keep down the noise which was met with "can you not wear ear plugs?"

Absolutely selfish individuals. As long as they get their way. We are fed up reporting them to the council.

No one else in the street carries on like this. Just them. We are all up and going about our business early yet they don't get moving around til at least noon at the weekend.
Is this common with step families?

How on earth is being a step family relevant?

KittyHigham · 28/02/2026 21:08

Let's say your neighbours live at no. 36.
Would you ask if all families living in houses numbered 36 are obnoxious? Of course not. So why ask if all step families are obnoxious?

Are you just winding us up?

I genuinely don't know anyone in a blended family, no. That's why I started a thread about it!

But literally what part of your twaddle links the paternity of her children with the noise levels and their usual wake-up time?

You know there’s zero correlation but are being all faux-gauche about it. You absolute fucking tool.

user1476613140 · 28/02/2026 21:11

If it is genuinely upsetting people I will ask the thread to be removed, but I genuinely am so fed up and at my wit's end and looking at all possibilities with these people as to why they're being selfish d*cks. I don't know other families who keep their 4yo up through the night like this. Most usually want to go out during the day with their children so they have a regular bed time. And do stuff during the day. The DC seem to stay asleep til at least 12 noon or later.

I have teens that do that but not a 4yo or 7yo.

Not necessary to name call. I haven't made any personal remarks to you.

You have if the poster is part of a stepfamily.

Reported the thread. Sorry if any upset has been caused. It wasn't intentional.

Yes, all step families are like this. Even though my DSD is married with her own kids, DH and I still stay up all night being loud just we can annoy our neighbours. 🤨

🤣🤣🤣 good reply! We’re the same, I was completely normal until I became a step parent, since then, absolute chaos. Back in reality…. on the occasional weekend we have no kids we tend to sleep a lot

Barrenfieldoffucks · 28/02/2026 21:31

I genuinely can't see where you have found the correlation? What made you connect their behaviour to the step situation?

lunar1 · 28/02/2026 21:33

Gutted I think all the sarcastic replies I can think of have been taken.

CinnamonBuns67 · 28/02/2026 21:39

No they're inconsiderate selfish neighbours that happen to also be part of a step/blended family. There are people with no children like this, there are "nuclear" families like this, there are families with same sex parents like this, there are lone/single parents like this and yes step/blended families like this. Families come in all shapes and sizes but a prick is a prick regardless of the type of family they have, stop making sweeping statements associating a specific kind of family type with a negative behaviour.

TheJaqual · 28/02/2026 21:49

This thread is actually really offensive sorry op.

we are a blended family and we are quiet and respectful. Always have been.

TheJaqual · 28/02/2026 21:51

I used to live next door to people who smoked weed, drank to excess and didn’t send their kids to school or put them to bed at a decent hour.

they weren’t a blended family so I’d postulate that all non-blended families are like this.

Theboredpanda · 28/02/2026 21:55

user1476613140 · 28/02/2026 20:51

I think you're missing the point. I don't know any nuclear families behaving like this because they do stuff usually at weekends with their DC. NDNs just spend weekends getting pis*ed. The youngest is 4yo and kept up all night.

Wtf is a nuclear family?

TheJaqual · 28/02/2026 21:58

Theboredpanda · 28/02/2026 21:55

Wtf is a nuclear family?

Mum, dad and 2.4 children I think

Gentlydoesit2 · 28/02/2026 22:03

Absolutely nothing to do with being "step families". They're just awful people.
By the way... Awful comes in many forms... Like being judgemental, privilege... Etc etc

piscofrisco · 28/02/2026 22:31

Yes we’re all inconsiderate arseholes obviously. Much more so than non step families clearly.

catnap56 · 28/02/2026 22:34

They are obviously inconsiderate arseholes but the fact that they are a step family has nothing to do with it. What a bizarre correlation to make.

Goingbonkers247 · 02/03/2026 18:56

Uhm I don't think being a step family is anything to do with the noise. Kids are kids and can be noisy. I'm sure our neighbours hate us. my SD is soo loud even i complain.lol

loveawineloveacrisp · 02/03/2026 19:02

Fucksake. Stupidest thread I've read all day.
