AIBU? (Stepmum edition) To go to the office during half term

I work a mix of WFH and in the office and so does my DH we arrange it so we aren't both WFH at the same time as we had enough of that in lockdown. It has just come to light that he assumed I would be doing my usual days during half term but I was planning on going into the office more! I didn't want to be in a house with the noisy DSC. Anyway aparantly this is not being a team player as means he can't go into the office..hang on a minute who did he think would be around when the kids where here and he wasn't...that's right me..

AIBU (stepmum edition) to say no I'm going into the office everyday they are here.

Plenty of families with children of different ages do things separately. Much more fun than dragging a tricky toddler or bored teenager to something that doesn't suit them.

No judgement. Just an observation that doesn’t look “fine” to me

DebussytoaDiscoBeat · 23/10/2022 16:33

@Razu45 do you honestly believe taking a toddler along to a half-term day out geared around the older ones or vice versa) is going to be in any of the DC’s best interests when an alternative is available? They’ll have any old weekends in which to do that, surely?

Yes we're fine. Stop trying to make it something it isn't.

@Razu45 ah sorry I realise I misunderstood your point. “Fine” is a very tricky one when it comes to families of any kind though, in blended families especially you can do everything as best you can and everyone gets along well but someone will still come along and tell you you’re doing it all wrong.

We're not trying to be the Brady Bunch. People get annoyed with each other. And no the arrangements with the kids have nothing to do with me.

@lentilly you shouldn’t have married a man with children if you weren’t willing to accept that you are NEVER allowed to make an error of judgement or feel pissed off sometimes or want a fair division of labour or be allowed to say no to something. Comes as part of the package dontcha know.

lentilly · 23/10/2022 17:29

@DebussytoaDiscoBeat I saw the first bit of your message on my "threads I'm on" and was like surely not... 😂

TBH I can’t work out if it’s funny or sad that some people genuine seem to believe it!

EvieJeanBengal · 24/10/2022 04:59

No No NNNNOOOO!!! What is it with these self entitled, selfish men in second marriages that expect their wives to be a built in baby sitters and general doormats and dogs bodies with no say in the matter? If the wife protests then she’s the evil cold stepmother neglecting the poor widdle Step Children. You have your own work schedule. This time is HIS contact time with HIS children where HE is supposed to be spending quality time with THEIR FATHER. If he doesn’t want to use his contact time then he should inform THEIR MOTHER giving her first right of refusal or arrange a baby sitter that IS NOT you. The utter arrogance and cheek to just assume that you will just drop everything to do what he SHOULD be doing. Parenting HIS children.
