AIBU? (Stepmum edition) To go to the office during half term

lentilly · 21/10/2022 21:00

I work a mix of WFH and in the office and so does my DH we arrange it so we aren't both WFH at the same time as we had enough of that in lockdown. It has just come to light that he assumed I would be doing my usual days during half term but I was planning on going into the office more! I didn't want to be in a house with the noisy DSC. Anyway aparantly this is not being a team player as means he can't go into the office..hang on a minute who did he think would be around when the kids where here and he wasn't...that's right me..

AIBU (stepmum edition) to say no I'm going into the office everyday they are here.

Don't worry about it @lentilly , there's always a few posters who think that if you're a SM then you should always be available to your DSC even when their own DP's haven't asked you in advance. You seem to have handled this very sensibly by refusing to cave and letting your DH get on with it

Hard not to take it to heart when someone makes nasty comments about my family tbh.

Once again @lentilly , don't let them get to you. You've done nothing wrong and your DH made a small error of judgement but you've sorted it. Some people on here just like to make snidey remarks because they live their lives differently and think everyone should do as they do. Have a good week at the office!

lentilly · 22/10/2022 18:12

@Daleksatemyshed Thanks will do :)

This is the obvious solution to me, too. They can loaf around at home on the days he WFH, and they can go out with him on the days off.

BaconCabbage · 22/10/2022 22:45

Sorry - I meant to quote OP saying that he could WFH as normal then take his 'office's days as holiday.

RocketsMagnificent7 · 23/10/2022 07:50

ehich is precisely why i will never ever ever blend families. For my sake. For any SCs’ sakes. And, most importantly, for my own childrens’ sakes.

Oh, it's you. I have to ask, as someone so vehemently against blended families why do you spend so much time on this board? Does it make you feel superior being able to tell anyone in a blended family how wrong they are and how you'd never do it?

Your nasty, little barbed comments when you have no experience of the situation just make you appear small-minded.

Ignore the tedious troll.

I think this is the first time I’ve ever posted in SP forum. I’d heard about it for sure being a pretty…. Interesting one, but hadn’t been on it until this one.

live and learn. Not for me 🤷‍♀️

It was definitely worth posting for the first time (on a board you apparently don’t read or intend to) to say that.

Are you going to pop over to a world of Warcraft forum or pistonheads or 80d animation fans or war memorabilia enthusiasts or pet spider care (or whatever else isn’t relevant to you) now to tell them that you’d heard it might be full of boring talk about stuff you disapprove of and, having reviewed it, you have concluded it’s not for you?

Cheers for the signposting 😂

I really don't see what was so wrong with my post. It hasn't in anyway said anything negative about my DSC.

@lentilly you've done nothing wrong. That posters just nasty and is having posts removed all over the place.

Surely the helpful thing youre doing is going to the office so the kids dont need to be keeping quiet/mindful not to disturb you.

If the children require supervision in any way then it's inappropriate and unfair on OP's employer for there to be no childcare. At my work this is specifically disallowed (bar emergencies)

YANBU.

but is he not having your shared child at all when he’s home? Not even one day instead of nursery?

That seems very odd to me. Leaving the little one out…

Why, if they're paying for nursery anyway, does it make sense to take them out for the day rather than spending rare time with only the older ones?

toomuchlaundry · 23/10/2022 11:51

@girlmom21 does that mean the child never has a holiday from nursery if you are always paying for it?

We pay for nursery anyway. They see the DSC after. It's all good. They don't all have to be one group all at the same time.

For us, no they don't. They might get a day off if we are going to visit the inlaws who live far away but we can't afford holidays at the moment so yes whenever they can they go to nursery. Covid did a number on us and so they've missed enough with coughs and sniffles at the start and the isolating with it.

I take mine out on random days that I have off work or if we're going away I accept that I'm paying for their place anyway, but I sometimes have time off work to do things that would be less convenient or enjoyable with them there.

If the OP's DH wants to take the older kids to Thorpe Park it'll be a lot easier without toddlers

SudocremOnEverything · 23/10/2022 14:08

And yet they’re probably endlessly surprised about it. 🤣🤣🤣

It’s still odd that your partner wouldn’t want to take all the kids out at least once together in the school holidays, leaving the youngest out of days out is bizarre.

It does sound like you are not a very close family. Pretty sad.
