Oh for goodness' sake. School uniform

We have 50:50. Dss wants to keep the routine the same, wed- fri one week, wed- Mon second week, despite the change of school. This is the first time he's come to us straight from his secondary school, and is really chuffed with the journey.

However.... School Uniform. Every other year I've sorted it all, so he has 5 sets 2 at each house, and one set floating so he has a change of uniform for each day. This year, because it's shiny new secondary uniform his mum has sorted all the uniform. She's spent a fortune, and took the account overdrawn (Old joint account, only has dss' CB paid into it to cover his expenses, ie clubs, uniform). I have no uniform for him to wear tomorrow. Apparently he only has a couple of pairs of trousers, a couple of shirts, one stank top and one blazer. What chuffing good is that? Dss is a sweaty child, there's no way he can wear the stuff he arrived in today for the next two days. Dp has texted her- so hopefully we will get something, but I am cross. This is not fair for Dss.

Can't you just buy some more as he doesn't have enough?

DiaDuit · 10/09/2014 16:55

Well secondary uniform tends ti be more expensive and you say she has already put the account overdrawn buying it so what exactly do you expect her to do? Confused is there anything stopping you buying some more shirts and trousers?

ExitPursuedByAKoalaBear · 10/09/2014 16:55

Can't you wash and dry it overnight?

PureMorning · 10/09/2014 16:55

Wash tonight and buy more for him tommorow?

PureMorning · 10/09/2014 16:57

Oh and ive only ever known secondary kids to have one blazer at a time

PenisesAreNotPink · 10/09/2014 16:58

Just wash it - it's hot, it will dry overnight even on a chair

ExitPursuedByAKoalaBear · 10/09/2014 16:58

My dd is into her 4th year in Secondary in the same blazer and one skirt.

gamerchick · 10/09/2014 16:59

Don't you have a washing machine?

amyhamster · 10/09/2014 16:59

Wash & dry overnight & buy more at the weekend

Artandco · 10/09/2014 17:00

I'm guessing the new secondary uniform is more expensive hence his mother brought what she could afford. Especially if you say account is now empty

Maybe you both need to a) consider more money needs to go into account b) just buy more uniform now as no more is going to materialise otherwise.

Does child benefit really cover enough for all his uniform/ clubs/ expenses? It's not a huge amount is it? ( ie ds school socks cost £12 each! So that's £60 for just 5 days worth)

InFlagranteDelicto · 10/09/2014 17:01

The blazer I can understand. It's the fact that it's wednesday night, she's told us she's sorting it, and I have no uniform for tomorrow. It's the lack of communication and consideration.

There was a lot of money in the account, and most of the uniform can be got from the supermarket.

Put it in the washing machine on a quick wash and it'll be dry for the morning.

Unless you just want to bitch about the ex in general in that case crack on.

Artandco · 10/09/2014 17:03

Obv not enough mony though surely?

PureMorning · 10/09/2014 17:04

Just wash the clothes.

I think it's a really small thing to get wound up at. The majority of parents do a mid week uniform wash.

In not like she sent him naked

Artandco · 10/09/2014 17:06

And yes I would just wash clothes today, then go to supermarket and buy more tomorrow

Marshy · 10/09/2014 17:08

Does mum onow whatbthe usual arrangements are, given that ypu have done all the buying up to now? Frustrating if so, but the answer is to wash and dry tonight for tomorrow and buy some more. My ds managed on a clean shirt everyday, two pairs of trousers and one blazer. He was an averagely sweaty teen I think Grin

MaryWestmacott · 10/09/2014 17:09

Is the problem that 'shes sorted it' by going to an expensive outfitters, so can't afford the required amount? DS is only at primary level, so I could be wrong on this, but going ot the 'official outfitters' for his uniform would mean paying £25 per pair of shorts, rather than £4 for 2 grey pairs in sainsburys. (the official ones are just plain grey).

DiaDuit · 10/09/2014 17:14

Are you saying she spent the money on something other than uniform? Otherwise i'm not understanding how there was plenty of money but its gone overdrawn.

InFlagranteDelicto · 10/09/2014 17:22

Dp doesn't know what she's bought.... but she's bought a lot. It's the principle tbh. Every other year she's had it given before term begins, name taped, the lot. It was a clue that she asked to have some of our name tapes the evening before he started. I don't know where she's got the other stuff- the school is good and keeps the amount of logo'd stuff to a minimum.

I have no choice but to wash and hope it will be dry. Can't run until the shopping arrives later with washing powder, I used the last this morning.

Dp got a reply- just as he wash heading out- all he said was she has no spare uniform. So I despair. Surely it would have been considerate to let us know we needed to get some.

Not making sense tbh.

wheresthelight · 10/09/2014 17:26

I understand your pain however I work on the basis that exw will always go out of her way to cock our lives up in some way so tty to preempt situations.

go buy uniform to keep at yours as it will give you time to wash and dry the stuff that goes back and just make sure that goes to one side and gets delivered back to her or he wears it to school on a monday

3stripesandout · 10/09/2014 17:28

So basically "I've managed to get all the uniform sorted for years not only that I see name tapes on and she hasn't had to do anything! And now the first year she has had to do it she's FAILED". Is this what you wanted us to think?

ItsNotEasyBeingGreen · 10/09/2014 17:31

You're not making any sense OP.

StercusAccidit · 10/09/2014 17:54

Come back and explain when you're not so cross/rushed been at the wine Grin

I understand :) And hell, you want to rant, have one here, it's safer than AIBU Wink
