I'm an ex-smoker - the worst kind, so I'm really pleased!

NotActuallyAMum · 15/02/2006 13:46

They do say ex-smokers are the worst don't they, I've never really understood that one. I can honestly say I've never, and I really mean never, tried one ever in my life - never wanted to. Apart from the health/smell side of it I don't know how anyone can afford it, they're about £5 a pack aren't they? Blimey if me or DP did smoke there'd be no holidays or football matches for us!

claire7676 · 15/02/2006 13:49

Now we've both stopped, neither of us have any idea how we afforded it! Its really strange, but you always find the money from somewhere!! Can't explain how though!

NotActuallyAMum · 15/02/2006 13:55

My Mum says the same claire. She smoked for 37 years and gave up about 5 years ago. At the time we all said we'd have bet a very, very large sum of money that she wouldn't be able to do it but she did, bless her. She had a good incentive though, she'd always wanted to go to America so she still took the money out of the bank which she would have spent on smoking and put it into a jar, she had £1,000 in hardly any time at all

And yes, of course she absolutely loved her trip

workingmumnhs · 15/02/2006 16:31

Hello I'm back again. (OH no I hear you all scream)

The hospital Computer stopped letting me log on so I think I was rumbled. Oh well another site I can't visit in work time.

The riddle if anyone is interested is about there being three commonly used words in the English language that end in "gry". One is Hungry the other is angry. What is the third. It has been driving me mad for days.

NotActuallyAMum · 15/02/2006 16:38

Hmmmm I'll have a think about that one...

tarantula · 16/02/2006 09:22

Oh bloody hell Jsut when you think things are going well. Dss went home yesterday and took with him ALL yes ALL the toy cars. I have no idea why. they were up in the loft for the best part of 3 years and then he suggested we get them down for dd to play with and he actually said that dd coud have them and now he's packed them all into his bag and taken them home. What the hell that all about? He hasnt said anything so have No idea whats going on in his mind. Dd's gonna go nuts when she finds all her cars have gone cos she loves them and be even worse if she goes round to dss's and finds them there. Where do we go from here?

NotActuallyAMum · 16/02/2006 10:07

Oh dear tarantula

He's old enough to know that he shouldn't tell a child they can have something then take it away. Have your or DP spoken to him about this?

tarantula · 16/02/2006 10:17

Dp was there when he took them but he didnt realise that he was taking ALL of them, thought he was taking one or two which wouldnt have been a problem. But what does he want with toy cars at his age anyway? he's 14!!! this goes much deeper than just taking the cars. Think he jealous of dd for some reason. Might be cos we bougth her a few toys the other day (they were going cheap in woolies) and also we've ordered some stuff online (which are partly her birthday pressie from us and partly from my sisters fro Christmas) and possibly he's thinking 'Waht about me?' but doesnt see that what he got for xmas and b'day cost the same as what we ahve bought for dd.
Problem is this is jsut me surmising as he hasnt SAID anything. Am really beginning to get worried about him.

tarantula · 16/02/2006 10:20

And dp isnt very good at talking to him atm tbh. OMG I've got a stroppy teenager on my hands now havent I? HELP!!!!!!!!!

NotActuallyAMum · 16/02/2006 10:31

Yes it sounds that way - oh no!!

But this isn't just your problem - DP may not be very good at talking to him but if I were you I'd tell him he has no choice! And I'd make sure he tells him he can't keep all of the cars. I agree though that there appears to be more to it than that. He's at a difficult age I know but he must learn to talk to you both if he's got a problem. When will you see him again? Does DP phone him in between visits?

tarantula · 16/02/2006 10:43

Dp's going to phone him today to find out whats going on and speak to his mum as well cos he might have spoken to her. Cant understand why this happened after we had such a nice weekend. Really glad that dd hasnt noticed that all the cars ahve gone. Guess we'll have to get her some more.

lol it sounds so silly getting so all uppity about a few toy cars but its whats behind it all thats so important. Dont want dss to feel like he's not part of the family or that we dotn love him or anythign like that.

Squirrel3 · 16/02/2006 12:05

Oh dear tarantula, I think that dp needs to have a chat to find out what is going on, it may be that he is jealous, it may be that he misunderstood about dd having the cars or it could be somthing completely different (who knows what goes on in stroppy teenage boys minds?)

I understand how you feel though, all kinds of things must be going through your mind (is it this? is it because of that?). The only way you are going to find out is to chat with him, I hope dp explains that he and dd had the same amount of money spent on them.

Oh, and I hope dd doesn't notice the cars have gone missing until you have sorted it all out, poor dd.

Hi Squirrel How are you feeling today? did you manage to make it to the interview? hope it went well if you did? Or is it this afternoon?

Dp tried to ring earlier but got no answer. Hopefully he'll get through later and we can get to the bottom of this. I do hope he's not jealous. am very worried about him (hopefully needlessly)

Squirrel3 · 16/02/2006 13:01

I'm sure you can sort it out with him, you seem to have a good relationship, hopefully its all been a misunderstanding.

I'm not sure how the interview went, I'm not my best ATM but we will see...

OP posts:
tarantula · 16/02/2006 13:13

I do hope we get things sorted. TBH if he was jealous I can even understand why as there are lots of reasons why. Dd has been given alot of stuff recently and my family love buying her things and have more money than his do. Also dp is at home all day with dd and I think he might resent the fact that she spends so much time with him. etc. etc. I'm sur it'll all work out for hte best in the end
I'm sure your interview went very well and they will see past the flu to the brilliant person you are. got my fingers (and toes) crossed for you. When will you hear about it?

Squirrel3 · 16/02/2006 13:26

Thank you tarantula,

They said they would phone by Mon, I don't ink I've got it TBH but never mind, there is always the next one.

Stop getting yourself in a 'tissy', I'm sure it will be ok, I'm sure it just needs a chat and it will be sorted. Try and think of something that will make him feel special if it will make you feel better.

OP posts:
tarantula · 16/02/2006 13:30

Thats a godo idea Squirrel. It'll have to be something that doesnt cost much or anything at all (t goes off to get thinking cap)

Haveing great fun here now cos my server is slowly imploding inwards ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH. and its a very important server too.

Squirrel3 · 16/02/2006 13:31

That should be don't think, not don't ink! (what planet am I on today?)

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 16/02/2006 13:32

Squirrel you may find it went better than you think - they must have been able to see that you're ill

Tarantula I hope DP manages to speak to dss tonight to put your mind at rest

Blimey we're all having a bad time aren't we in one way or another?? I'm still not speaking to DP properly. Probably childish of me I know but it seems to be one thing after another atm. I don't think for a second that he does any of it on purpose, he just doesn't think. But, hey, he's a man - what do I expect??

Squirrel3 · 16/02/2006 13:32

Sounds painful that!

OP posts:
Squirrel3 · 16/02/2006 13:34

Posts crossed NAAM, why are you and dp not getting on? Do you want me to send the boys around?

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 16/02/2006 13:41

lol squirrel

I don't really know tbh. Tuesday night was a disaster as you know, last Friday didn't go too well either - both because he had to talk about his ex-wife! Think I'm just having an off-week rather than an off-day!! I've been planning (or trying to!) holidays/weekends away and everything always has to revolve around dsd. Yes I know that must sound really awful Another 4 months and we've been together 2 years, I really hoped things would be getting easier by now

tarantula · 16/02/2006 13:46

think we should ressurect the sad stepmums club

Squirrel3 · 16/02/2006 13:54

Well, I've been a step mum for five years and as you know we still have problems.
