Newcastle doing Newcastle things. I love us and despair of us in equal measure.

Tiswa · 18/03/2026 19:53

I think the penalty (which IMO was a penalty) changed everything and started the second half off on the back foot and then 3 goals
in 10 mins

Newcastle were the better team for 3 out of the 4 halves of those matches.

They seem to have out-Newcastled themselves.

It will hurt for a bit.

Honestly, nah. I never really thought it would be anything but a loss. Barcelona are levels better than us and once they got a two goal cushion we absolutely capitulated. And it’s not the worst score on aggregate over the round. #thankyouchelsea the scoreline stings a bit but whether it’s a plucky narrow defeat or an absolute handing of our arse to us on a plate, the outcome is the same. An inquest will be held, lessons will be learned and hopefully we’ll bounce back all the better for it in time. Just need to avoid the crackpots on social media for 48 hours.

and I agree, their pen was a pen, but I think at least two of barcelonas scorers tonight should have been banned for this game and I don’t think the possible pen on Elanga would have been overturned if given either.

Now if we lose on Sunday. That will be head loss time.

Just seen the Newcastle score 😯

LlynTegid · 18/03/2026 20:41

BBC - Spurs score to keep hope. So that's a 3-1 win for Athletico tonight then, I predict.

@JasonTindallsTan o think the Elanga one sums up for me the could have been a penalty had the referee given it but not enough to overrule and I think VAR was right not to call him over

Piknik · 18/03/2026 23:26

Well that was exhausting! Best I've seen Spurs play for a while - Tel, Gray and Xavi were all excellent. In all honestly, we were never going to win Champions League, so I am not heartbroken that we are out, and just hope we can play like that in the Prem and give ourselves a chance of staying up.

Only downside is that this is now going to delay the Tudor exit. I still have no faith in him.

Tiswa · 18/03/2026 23:27

Also Atlanta had a terrible final score line so Newcastle 3rd worse

Spurs actually ended being a 2 goal deficit on par with Leverkusen and Bodo!

burblish · 19/03/2026 20:27

Kudos to Spurs for winning last night - good to see the players showing fight and pride.

Thank you for the right Liverpool showing up against Galatasaray.

Well done Palace on making the Conference League QFs. Forest looking good so far in the shoot out to make the Europa League QFs.

ETA: and well done Arsenal, too!

Never change EPL

(yes I am still bitter about that Smile)

I didn't know what this was about.

I just read an article in the Telegraph. It is absolutely disgusting.

Chelsea rivals won’t take action despite fury over ‘lenient’ punishment

Fractured nature of Premier League means reaction unlikely despite club escaping with £10m fine and suspended transfer ban over payments

Did anyone see Thierry Henry’s ‘tribute’ to Big Meeks at the beginning of the CBS show yesterday. Was so lovely and you could tell Micah was embarrassed but appreciated it.

rich clubs do what they like. The likes of Wednesday and Burnley (and others) face harsh, disproportinate club punishments due to actions of owners.

Well, the bottom of the article specifically mentioned how Everton was punished as a comparison.

I'm not naive enough to think that there is no corruption in football (and I assume it is much worse in some other countries compared to the UK), but the fact that the way that rich and poor clubs are treated differently is all out in the open and no-one does anything about it is galling.

I suppose the EFL and the other rich clubs just think that it is for the greater good of the game. Chelsea and Man City are too big to fail because if they were relegated then the PL would lose a lot if its appeal and that would affect all the leagues.

I'm sure that the leagues in other countries are much more corrupt, but they probably don't even bother to investigate the corruption.

The EFL goes through the motions, but at the end of the day all that matters is money.

burblish · 20/03/2026 10:46

@JasonTindallsTan I saw that - it was so lovely! I particularly appreciated what Thierry said at the end of the segment about how it was important to talk openly about these aspects of being a footballer because, "People relate to pain. They can't relate to the things we have achieved as footballers, but they can relate to pain." (As an aside, have you read Micah's autobiography? It's funny how even in his autobiography, you can tell he is actually a very private person behind the larger than life persona.)

Yes I liked that as well, he’s right, I can’t possibly understand what it’s like playing in a cup final for instance, but I can understand the upset of not being able to do something I love for reasons outside my control. He’s a wise man old Titi.

@MustTryHarderAndHarder my friend is a lifelong Fulham fan and 20+ year season ticket holder and she got a job recently (21 hours) running the stadium tours and other admin.

I thought she would be thrilled with it but she said it has been a real eye opener - not only is her job barely above minimum wage (which she kind of accepts) every perk is argued over and every decision is about money and you really see how it’s all business and not about the fans at all

burblish · 20/03/2026 14:33

It's hardly news that racists are thick, but it takes a special level of stupidity to racially abuse a black player (Ibrahima Konate) in relation to a challenge he made involving another team's player...who is also black (Victor Osimhen). I would venture a guess that Osimhen won't be grateful to these "fans" for their "support".

You must be grateful your friend is not working there when it was owned by Mr Al Fayed.

Yes, all the PL clubs are run like businesses but they have the advantage that they have an (almost) captive customer base for life.

Perhaps the CMA should investigate them!

I’m not entirely sure how to take this - it isn’t about that it is about football becoming a money making machine and fans being secondary to that

it’s a premier league problem - Barcelona tickets are easy to get friends have been to Real Madrid and PSG matches much easier than getting premier league tickets

we are about to go to LA to watch 3 basketball matches and they were so easy to get (although granted the number of games etc does make it easier)

Mistyglade · 20/03/2026 23:54

Hello all.

I am in the full on throes of menopause this past fortnight my god. Brain smog off the scale.

Luckily we’ve remembered how to play football, Tudor seems to have found some coys mojo. I have a ticket to the Forest game on Sunday and am feeling strangely confident. Tel and Gray played masterfully on Wednesday, Solanke is back too, more next week.

A win would really lift things. Understatement.

The Chelsea corruption with Hazard etc is just such another predictable load of usual bollcks from that bunch. We raised an eyebrow, thought about what would have happened if they hadn’t broken the rules and then went to what we were doing. Typical.

My comment about Mr Al Fayed was related to the allegations about multiple sex offences he committed.

I have been to a PSG game and to a couple in Germany when on holiday and been able to get them.
