Oh, yes I see. I agree - hence my joke about Sarina having a bet on. It's the only explanation for dicing with elimination the way she is. Baffling.

Yes, I agree, it's like she is playing a game of dare.

The write up in the Telegraph said it is as if her brain freezes and she doesn't know what to do. I do hope that they are wrong about that

This is what she said:

"I don’t know if I make the changes at the right time. We wait, it has impact, when we score we have to find a shape that also meant the tempo had to go down a bit," Wiegman told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"We thought we played well, got some chances, but the final touch [was missing]. That’s why we waited."

That sounds like Double Dutch to me which is quite apt really.

It's like someone saying, "we've done all the calculations, it ought to work... Let's keep going the way we are."
No. It's not working and you may never be able to work out why, so never mind the original plan - adapt.

Yes, it was exactly what Gareth Southgate used to do. He had options on the bench but didn't make any changes even though the tv pundits (and me) were literally crying for him to make changes at half-time.

Sometimes, you just have to take a risk and then no-one can say that you didn't try. She is taking a big risk with Michelle, which is great, but she just leaves it too late. I really do think that her brain freezes and she panics and can't make the decision which is not great for a football manager.

The problem is, that in tournament football, you have extra time and penalties. Half time changes can be too early if there’s 45 minutes and then another 30 minutes. You don’t want decent penalty takers injured in that time or totally knackered. (Although with the women, penalty taking is an Achilles heel.)

However when you are 2 goals behind and bereft of ideas, there needs to be quicker action. Sarina seems to believe in her original 11 but only want cameo roles from subs when the team will throw the kitchen sink at scoring. That’s dangerous of course because of a breakaway attack from opponents.

I do believe we’ve been lucky to date. Our opponents lost concentration and got tired. They took their eye off defending. We take ours off in the first half. Somehow we must get it together in the first half because Spain won’t be wilting in the second half.

Yes, we were have been very lucky. We have the skill to score goals and certainly deserved to score goals in both games, but we needed a lot of luck especially in the Italy game in that our equalising goal came when it did and not a minute later when it would have been too late.

Our season starts with the Merseyside derby 💪💙

Don’t watch WSL. Not enough hours available. It’s not very competitive either. International competitions only for us as it doesn’t compete with anything else on our sporting agenda.

Snowypeaks · 25/07/2025 14:53

Great opening fixture for Arsenal. LCL, sister club to OL Lyonnes (whom we defeated on our way to becoming CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE) - should be spicy!

The BBC and ITV have secured the broadcasting rights to the 2027 World Cup in Brazil, ensuring the biggest tournament in women's football remains free-to-air for UK audiences.

Hmmm.
Hope Jess Carter has a better game than the last one.
James went off last game with ankle injury-hope she can manage
Hope Sarina makes her subs sooner.

This line up has give me a little headache tbh
