I thought it was more about Danny Ric ending his career with his head held high. Is there any evidence Red Bull had any hand in it? Good for him I say.

It was just the way Horner told Max at the end that Daniel had got fastest lap and Max said thank you to Daniel. Of course it's a win win for Daniel, Max and the RB team but as a McLaren fan it left a bad taste in my mouth Grin unfairly I know Smile

So Lando is 52 points behind Max with 6 races to go but 3 of those are Sprint races. It’s the closest end to the season for a few years.

Since Abu Dhabi 2021 perhaps?? 😉😉

LookItsMeAgain · 23/09/2024 15:02

I think Sky F1 has done the maths on this and if Lando were to win every race with Max finishing 2nd in these races, they'd go into Abu Dhabi level on points...so it could well be a re-run of AD'21 just with Max and Lando instead of Max and Lewis.

There are 2 x triple headers coming up and then the season is over.

I was very apprehensive at the start of the season thinking it was going to be another Max takeover but it has been quite refreshing to see just how good the other drivers have been.

I'm not a fan of Max but so long as he remains polite throughout the press conferences and answers the questions, even if he answers them with "I'd rather not say", then he can't be fined or punished by anyone.

gingercat02 · 23/09/2024 15:06

DH hates team orders of any sort. The RB Red Bull thing drives him loopy! Danny's fastest lap was not popular!
That and McLaren swapping Lando and Oscar a few weeks ago because it was prearranged has already started a rant about Max winning a second title he doesn't deserve (2021)

LookItsMeAgain · 23/09/2024 16:04

Abu Dhabi 2021 is the bad smell hanging around F1 that they just can't get rid of. You'll find a lot of things come back to decisions that were made at that race and following that race, penalties that followed that race etc.

Brazilianadventure · 23/09/2024 16:58

AD2021 is a sore point for many of us. 😔

I think McLaren may use the fastest lap option over the next six races if the opportunity is there to deny RB a point.

It's a team sport though. Nothing wrong with team orders, they've been around since the 50s. Fangio's teammate famously gave up both a car and a title.

Inter team orders are a different thing and not ok at all but that's not what happened here - Red Bull were about to pit Perez to swap his point for tenth for a point for fastest lap but then they realised they didn't need to.

Inter team orders have happened in the past but they're rare and IMO not greeted with the fury they should be. Jerez 97 (Williams and McLaren) and Spa 98 (McLaren and Jordan) spring to mind but I'm sure there's more recent examples.

Sulusu · 24/09/2024 16:29

Red Bull is imploding, now Will Courtenay is leaving for McLaren. That's another big loss for Red Bull. I remember Horner smirking in 2022 when Mercedes were having their staff leaving and moving to Red Bull. Not so much fun when it's your team eh Horner.

Brazilianadventure · 24/09/2024 18:07

I do wonder if the number of high profile people leaving RB is in part due to the power struggle earlier this year over CH and the female employee, Jos and Helmut etc. all getting involved.

As senior employees they will probably have had a ringside seat to exactly what went on.

Probably part that and part natural cyclical evolution - Red Bull's period of dominance is clearly over, so staff look elsewhere which only hastens the downfall. Very normal even without the Horner saga.

Spent the walk to the train wondering who's next for dominance - presumably McLaren. And who'll be their closest rival? Couldn't decide on that one. Too soon for Merc again surely, and much as I would love to see it I just can't see Ferrari getting it together. Will it be Aston?!

MercedesLeftWheelNut · 24/09/2024 19:58

Anyone see Lando Norris on Stream having a dog at Lewis and George for heatstroke:

"Toto Wolff issues health update on Hamilton and Russell? Fuc*g hell, it’s tough for everyone. Why do they think that they’ve... Everyone’s got heatstroke if they’ve got heatstroke."

https://www.sportskeeda.com/f1/news-everyone-s-got-heatstroke-lando-norris-snubs-reports-lewis-hamilton-george-russell-suffering-heatstroke-f1-singapore-gp

I hate not rooting for a British driver but he really does behave like a little shit sometimes...

Brazilianadventure · 24/09/2024 20:06

I think it was a convenient way not to talk to the press about their woeful strategy by having a plausible excuse.

OP posts:
MercedesLeftWheelNut · 24/09/2024 20:09

Maybe, but let's face it - if they were trying to avoid press talks after bad strategy decisons, they'd have been hiding for many more races than this.

Plus, the Merc has had plenty of reported heat issues, including hot seats etc. So makes sense from that pov.

Same - at this point I'm hoping Max will win the WDC over Norris, which says a lot. He really is so unlikeable imo.

Ignore my previous post, just seen some footage of George and other drivers getting out of their cars and by the weigh in area and they were barely able to walk and clearly exhausted.

I saw that, it was like they were in slow motion getting out the cars 😞

Merrow · 25/09/2024 07:15

I thought Lando seemed pretty out of it and not great in the post-race interview, so I suspect there's a point about everyone feeling some effects. It seems such a dangerous race - the commentators were all saying it was the worst in terms of physical requirements, and the footage of George looked awful. How are they possibly maintaining control of the cars!

Sulusu · 25/09/2024 09:23

The Merc boys have been complaining about their seats overheating for a few races now. Maybe that's why they felt so ill after the race compared to others. Hopefully Mercedes can sort that before Austin. I'm glad Qatar is later this year so it shouldn't be as bad as last year.

imworkinglatecosimasinger · 25/09/2024 13:22

I tried for the Landostand today, no luck, so general sale on Friday coming up!

Yeah I suspect most of them are ill by the end of the Singapore weekend. I saw a picture of Stroll after practice or qualifying where he looked at death's door, it was genuinely concerning.

imworkinglatecosimasinger · 26/09/2024 15:56

So excited got tickets for Silverstone!

Finally they have announced DR has left VCARB/RB and Liam is in the car.

As most people have said, whilst it might be right time for DR to end his career he deserved better in terms of how it was announced.

DR deserved to have a last weekend where everyone knew it was his last weekend. He was really professional in Singapore.

Danny Ric definitely outstayed his welcome, but as such a fan favourite, he deserves a proper farewell
