I feel sorry for him but it's the right call. They've been really patient.

Sulusu · 27/08/2024 19:08

Franco Colapinto is a Williams Academy driver from Argentina. He has a reasonable career through karting up to F2. Not massively successful like Norris or Russell e.g but not bad either. Always comes across as steady driver.

I think it's nice that an F2 driver is being promoted especially one of Williams own academy drivers. Before today it was Mick Schumacher and Liam Lawsons names being mentioned a lot to take Sargent's seat. I think Colapinto has some ties with Alonso and his family although I maybe misremembering that.

I feel for Logan Sargent as he seems a nice lad, but the accident costs were really mounting up for Williams.

CelesteCunningham · 27/08/2024 19:46

I was surprised to see Mick in the frame I admit, much as I like him. Replacing a very nice, very wealthy young man who's in F1 as much for his family connections as for his talent and who is really very good at having large expensive crashes with... Mick Schumacher... Well... 😬

Never heard of Colapinto, but always good to see someone getting a shot.

AlwaysKindaKnewYoudBeTheDeathOfMe · 27/08/2024 20:25

Poor Logan, but really he'd been given as many chances as they could afford to give him. How many times has he been in the wall? Far too many both economically and for everyone's safety.

imworkinglatecosimasinger · 29/08/2024 10:10

Looking forward to Monza! I wonder how the new Williams lad will do.

milski · 30/08/2024 12:43

Kimi Antonelli has just crashed George Russell's car after 12 mins of FP1. Poor guy. He did really well on his first lap too. He must be under so much pressure.

LookItsMeAgain · 30/08/2024 12:53

Now, if Antonelli's crash ends up damaging the gearbox, that in theory should be a grid penalty to Antonelli but guess who'll actually get the grid penalty - George. This is one of the reasons why I think there should be penalties associated with the respective drivers (or let the teams have a spare car for the FP Sessions with the newer drivers perhaps) versus penalties for the team themselves and not roll these penalties into one.

Sulusu · 30/08/2024 13:15

Poor Kimi right in front of his home crowd too.

And poor George Russell that's his weekend potentially ruined.

Brazilianadventure · 30/08/2024 16:41

Sadly F1 and the driving Gods can be cruel. I hope Kimi is given another FP1 this year. Poor George if he does have to take the penalty it’s very unfair.

Clearly Monza is taking its toll with the safety car crashing. KMag’s has just crashed in FP2!

Ouch ouch Kimi.

What's plan B Toto???

Brazilianadventure · 31/08/2024 11:45

Finally Mercedes have made the announcement. The verbal gymnastics of everyone not saying what was obvious is over.

So there is now:

  • one seat at Sauber/Stake/Audi alongside Nico
  • one seat at VCarbRB/Torro Rosso alongside Yuki

Valtteri may get Sauber but unless DR gets Perez’s seat I think he is out as Liam deserves the drive.

I'm tired of DannyRic now!

Rowgtfc72 · 31/08/2024 13:37

Antonelii not having a great f2 race today either.
Need to keep bottas in f1. He's a character.
I was done with Danny ric a few seasons ago.

Brazilianadventure · 31/08/2024 16:27

McLaren front row lockout. George did well to get 3rd, slightly disappointed for Lewis as I thought he might be 3rd/4th. The good news is Max is 7th,

Listening to Zac I think they may do team orders as there is a chance for Lando to get WDC. The more cars that are between Lando and Max the better.

This is also potentially RBs nightmare for the constructors Championship as there is only 30 pts between RB and McLaren.

Pole usually translates to a win at Monza. Don't think Norris needs to worry too much about a bad start today as I think McLaren will use team orders now. Even if Russell gets a good start, the Mercs long run pace wasn't great in FP.

imworkinglatecosimasinger · 01/09/2024 12:07

Glad Nico Rosberg is on the team today I love his insight! and must admit his face too 😁

YouAreAllMySymmetry · 01/09/2024 12:12

I'm watching the Sky F1 documentary The Road to Perfection and this episode is the 2008 Monza race. Such a good watch, the drama was fantastic!

Sulusu · 01/09/2024 14:01

Hmm big thunderclouds building up in the distance. Apparently 40 percent chance of rain.

Brazilianadventure · 01/09/2024 15:06

I’m so conflicted a Ferrari 1 2 at Monza is glorious but I want as many cars between the McLarens and RB as possible.

GrouchyKiwi · 01/09/2024 15:13

Norris really needs to work out his race starts.

Sulusu · 01/09/2024 15:19

First win at home for Ferrari for ages was nice to see.

Brazilianadventure · 01/09/2024 15:20

well done Charles & Ferrari. Good on Lando taking fastest lap from Max.

Sulusu · 01/09/2024 15:21

I'm enjoying how unpredictable this season is!

Tilda77 · 01/09/2024 15:21

Ferrari did well to get the win. The Papaya rules seem questionable. They seem to favour Piastri.
