Happy New Year.

Thought I would start the 2024 thread given there is more political intrigue with the FIA.

2 resignations and one person choosing to not renew their contract. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/67906883

Plus allegedly another ex-Red Bull employee moving to the FIA. https://x.com/silverarrowsnet/status/1744375322131231089?s=46&t=lJm6-66fq4MtGcwwAsK6Kg

Goss becomes third senior figure to quit FIA

Leading engineer Tim Goss leaves his role as the single-seater technical director of motorsport's governing body the FIA.

Just watching the Driver’s press conference good god Stroll is hard work to interview 😱 he has no redeeming features for me.

I have no clue where Sainz will end up - media saying Williams want him

He's such an odd mix of thick as shit and arrogant as all fuck. No redeeming features at all really. Just money. And to get the question of 'will you continue at Aston' was embarrassing for all concerned.

I wish he'd do one; think of all the young deserving drivers waiting for their call up.

Purplehatty · 06/06/2024 21:05

@JustWannaBeWorthIt agree!

Thanks, that’s interesting, Shorter lighter cars are an improvement. No need to apologise about the source, gossip and news from all sources are all welcome.

@Brazilianadventure DH was delighted about DRS being cancelled but then decided he would probably hate the replacement too 🤷

I thought Sainz and Audi was all but guaranteed?

witte · 08/06/2024 09:48

I'm still hoping Horner goes but to no avail

I think he could still go unless there is a £££ compromise agreement. The ET process takes such a long time so it could be next year.

Doing a rain dance as it looks like it could be a wet qually & race. Rain levels the playing field and the Wall of Champions may collect a few more names.

James Vowles sounding very confident about Sainz joining Williams, well he's been honest (could that guy be anything other than honest!) that he's top of their list and all will become clear regarding their new driver and 30! new signings of people from other teams - go Willliams!

Pleased Lewis topped P3 easily! praying it means that that will convert in to a great quali for him

Brazilianadventure · 08/06/2024 20:34

It really does seem like James Vowels has got Williams on the right trajectory. If I was Carlos I think Williams would be a good fit.

Breaking News Yuki to stay at VCarbRB. That is interesting after Checo’s signing as it means DR is likely to lose his seat to Liam Lawson. The big question is has Max decided to move which is why they are tying everyone down?

I do hope Lewis qualifies well.

Wow Ferrari 11 and 12 - that’s a shock.

big shock with Ferrari !

Interesting comment from Jacque Vilneuve that Bottas could go to Mercedes for a one year contract before Kimi Antonelli steps up in 2026

FlamingoFlamboyance · 09/06/2024 01:13

Pleased Mercedes seem to be working out some of the kinks finally.

Glad George got pole, not sure what happened to Lewis though as he wasn't able to improve.

Should hopefully be a decent race as long as George can hold Max off at the start

Fulshaw · 09/06/2024 07:58

There’s a few conspiracy theories flying around about Mercedes turning down Lewis’s engine so he doesn’t out qualify George. He’s hinted at it himself, couple of times.

Do we think this is even remotely possible? Surely any team want as a many points as they can get, for constructors championship, sponsors etc?

FlamingoFlamboyance · 09/06/2024 08:58

I don't necessarily think that his engine is being turned down but I do think George is probably getting the better upgrades applied to his car sooner.

Also think Lewis has just mentally checked out this season and is just going through the motions.

Brazilianadventure · 09/06/2024 09:10

50-60% chance of rain.

I’m going with Lando, George, Max for top 3.

No, no offense but that is nonsense. I'm a big Lewis fan, and this kind of conspiracy stuff is doing a major disservice to how his fans are perceived.

The new wing was introduced in Monaco, both drivers were offered it, but Lewis decided not to as he didn't feel it was worth the risk, George did take it. That was from Lewis himself btw.

It's normal when a driver is leaving that they will be phased out of meetings about future car developement, if that hasn't taken affect already, it will after the summer break. Lewis is well aware of this. Also people need to remember that Lewis and Toto are very close in personal terms. There is no way George is being favoured over Lewis, it's just normal when a driver is leaving a team that they don't get factored in to future development.

I do think it's partly age with Lewis, we saw it with Seb too, qualifying is usually thet first bit of the edge that goes with age. In race pace Lewis is still fantastic and he is up against someone who is particularly good in qualifying. I suspect he might this an issue against Charles next year who is also a phenomenal qualifier.

Well done to George for yesterday, it's really nice now that we have several teams in the mix for poles and wins. Bodes really well for racing for the rest of the year!

Sulusu · 09/06/2024 13:02

I was a bit surprised that RB have signed Perez for two years. One year wouldn't surprise me, but two? That seems quite unfair to the other RB driver's waiting in the wings. Would love to see Sainz at Williams. I got some serious hope for Williams to improve a lot over the next couple of years. They just need some good sponsers and signing Sainz will no doubt help in that.

Olly Bearman is going to Haas into Hulkenburgs seat, Occon says he has a seat for next year but we don't know where yet. The F1 musical chairs is heating up!

I do agree with you, I don’t believe they would do something like that. And it’s natural they would prioritise GR now.

But the theories are coming from what Lewis himself said. At Monaco, he said he didn’t expect to outqualify GR all year and was kind of enigmatic when pushed on it. Then yesterday he said he changed nothing with the car but ended up 7th and was ‘looking forward to going home’. It’s almost like he thinks something is up, but it just seems so outlandish.

I think it's just him being a bit down on himself. He was the same after the 2021 championship (understandably so), and also towards the end of his McLaren years. In 2012 he got beaten by his teammate Button in a few races and he was similarily dejected and honestly a bit sulky. He is just really hard on himself IMO. He is being beaten fair and square by Russell in qualifying now, but he still has the edge in things like tyre management, it's really close between them. One thing Mercedes definitely can't complain about is the commitment of their drivers, despite how slow the car has been.

It makes me worry for Lewis a bit though, Ferrari is a hard team to be successful in, a far more a stressful environment than Mercedes. Just look how dejected Vettel and Alonso were after moving there. He needs to bring a really positive outlook there or the Tifosi will eat him alive.

I think Perez is on a 1+1 which might have a lot of get-out clauses for Red Bull I'd imagine, especially performance related.

Ah yeah that makes more sense. It's looking like the constructors championship might be a closer battle this year and if Perez continues to perform poorly they can at least reconsider for next year. I really want to see someone in that second seat who will challenge Verstappen. Clearly Red Bull don't sadly.

Brazilianadventure · 09/06/2024 16:02

@Sulusu well said about Lewis. Adrian Newey has been shocked how quickly RB cut him out of meetings. It’s perfectly normal.

My theory about Perez is based on Max not being as locked down as RB hope.
