Happy New Year.

Thought I would start the 2024 thread given there is more political intrigue with the FIA.

I just read JV’s wiki page.
He sounds very unpleasant.

He was always very unpleasant - even 20+ years ago when he was racing (not very well), he had a reputation as thug and was pretty disliked. The most memorable his career got was the Benetton refuelling fire Grin

He has not done anything to change that reputation and even when he was well old enough to know better, he is still getting into night club fights.

JV is a bully. I'm going to say it. He is not a nice person and it really is surprising that Max has turned out to be at least a half-way decent person.

I am waiting for the news about CH though. As he is currently the longest continual serving team manager, it would be disappointing that something that happened off track might/would be the cause of his departure from the team.

It is surprising about Max, considering some of the stories he's shared about how Jos treated him as a child. I'm not sure he necessarily sees that as being wrong though which is sad.

I've always thought that there was something a bit 'off' about Christian Horner but I can't pinpoint exactly what.

Will be interesting if any more info is released on what's happened but no doubt it will be kept quiet.

JV just exudes bully vibes, apparently has been linked to several incidents of domestic violence in the last, and whilst Max has had his aggression somewhat 'managed' out of him by RB I don't think the apple has fallen far from the tree judging by his past altercation with Ocon.

I'm actually feeling sorry for Geri at the moment. This could have huge repercussions on their marriage.

I've always had the impression that Geri and CH adore each other. I know that a lot of high profile couples just try to give that impression , but I think they are very close.

I hope he doesn't go, I have to admit I quite like him and did back in the old days too. I know he's an acquired taste. But you have to be a bit of a narcissist to get to where he is.

It will change F1 a lot if he's not in it.

Everyone said she was relentless in chasing him even though his long term partner had just had a baby so I don't feel sorry for her at all.

Yes Jos was known as an unpleasant character before Max was even born. I was always surprised that Michael Schumacher was close friends with him - obviously Michael wasn't shy about getting aggressive on track, but he didn't have that reputation off track at all and it just always seemed a weird friendship.

I think Max is remarkably well rounded considering the upbringing he had. Presumably down to the mother! (Also a talented driver of course.)

Yes the circumstances of them getting together meant that CH's parents refused to attend their wedding out of loyalty to his ex, which is quite the statement.

But of course, cheating scum doesn't equal abusive scum, sex pest or controlling boss. We await the verdict.

wrt to CH. I have always got the impression he and Geri were very happy together… but in fairness, his ex probably thought they were pretty happy when they were trying for a baby / had just had their baby. He’s a cracking villain in F1 but he always strikes me as having something (warmth, empathy?) missing. I would like to think he’s not out there sexually harrassing/abusing his staff but.. who knows?

Max seems to have very good relationships with his mother and sister, so maybe he has managed to escape following in his father's footsteps in that regard.

I'm not sure Max has escaped unfortunately. His girlfriend is Nelson Piquet's daughter so he has that nastiness there too.

I have never liked him and, again, his behaviour to his ex wife made me think even less of him.

I would not like to say how happy I think they are. She seems in love with him and also seems to want to cling on to him whenever they are together but someone commented a while ago that in photos of the two of them he usually looks totally bored and while she looks adoringly at him he doesn't at her.

I get really annoyed when she's filmed in the RB garage at the paddock (dressed in white so she makes herself stand out) and even worse when she manages to get herself on the f1 tv coverage.

I remember when Max won his first WDC and she was there after being interviewed alongside Christian and other RB staff, I just thought what the hell does any of this have to do with you Geri 😂

I often think this. I suppose JV is always there leeching glory from his infinitely more talented son and he’s been in the news more in the past.. albeit for being an absolute prick for the most part but you know what they say, any publicity is good publicity etc.

According to Sky we are unlikely to get an outcome today. It sounds like today may be a grievance interview where CH is asked for his recollection of events.

I agree a very interesting read and he is right about playing victim and aggressor at the same time.

Silverstone 2021 comes to mind. He may not have said anything racist but what he said generated a lot of racism towards Lewis.

Toto takes his frustration out on inanimate objects (poor headphones) but only talks to the media when his emotions are under control. He therefore comes over more measured.
