Football fans join in to share the joy, the heartache and VAR frustration ⚽

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football.

I can’t wait, I might come to you for advice closer to the time!

Brefugee · 06/10/2023 11:09

let's hope that one day Newcastle play Gladbach. I'll show you round our spiffy beer garden at the stadium

I am definitely up for that!

AndNobbyDancing · 07/10/2023 14:03

Brighton did well to get a point.

Came on here to ask what colour is the Spurs shirt? It looks like pigeon poo after they have been at the blackberries on my TV.

AndNobbyDancing · 07/10/2023 18:24

😆 I said to the boy I thought it might be taupe- he told me to stop making up words. It is horrid and the first kit the boy doesn't want (still doesn't want a Saints kit though)

Dreadful results for my leanings. Congrats Dunc that was a big game and the toffees turned up.

TheSleepingGiant · 07/10/2023 18:51

I really don't like that 3rd kit, looks like its made of old curtains! No idea why we couldn't wear our white with Luton in orange. Chuffed with the win and will enjoy being top for tonight Grin Fuck knows what Bissouma was playing at though...

A 2-1 win for Gills, puts us up to 3rd. Really enjoyed that game, love beating the Franchise. Their fans at the station after were an absolute disgrace like their club throwing cans, bottle and vapes at the train. Knobs.

DuncinToffee · 08/10/2023 09:24

Very happy with the win especially after the Bournemouth manager said he fancied a win at Goodison

Hope the weather isn't too bad where you are Tarkan

Tarkan · 08/10/2023 11:17

Thanks, we're not too bad here, constant rain but no floods in town AFAIK. All the trains were cancelled last night (haven't looked today) and some of the main roads out of town are quite bad so I don't know how the buses are today. Thankfully the only place I'm going today is in town and I'll get my waterproof coat on to walk down.

DH had been considering going to watch Arbroath at Dunfermline yesterday and he's glad he changed his mind since that was one of the games called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 08/10/2023 16:25

Rollercoaster game today. Poor first half but another half time wonder talk from Sir Edward Howe had us flying out of the starting blocks in the second half. Two strikes from the super swede and an open net fluffed 🤦🏼‍♀️ which would have finished the game only to concede a last minute equaliser from a sub.

Just glad we’ve not picked up any more injuries and we now have the international break to breathe, rest and recuperate.

Good thing with Southgate being incapable of picking in form players means we’re only losing Tripps for the duration.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 08/10/2023 19:09

Oh I've missed you Martinelli!

burblish · 08/10/2023 19:49

The Arsenal fans on here can be rightfully jubilant!

Liverpool result v Brighton was probably fair, but if only Gravenberch hadn’t hit the bar!

Not sure how Pascal Gros wasn’t red carded for trying to tear Szoboszlai’s shirt off (no attempt to play the ball, so no penalty-double jeopardy rule) and Kovacic was also very lucky to stay on for Man City. Oh well - some of them go your way and some of them don’t!

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 08/10/2023 20:15

Don't talk to me about Kovacic! We managed in spite of the referee today. This is the same referee who sent off Martinelli for two "yellows" in the same move.

He's also paid by Man City's owners to referee matches in the UAE...

Brefugee · 08/10/2023 20:43

Sheffield Wednesday Nil (their official name) are nothing if not consistent.
Stuttgart are top of the league and everyone in Germany is scratching their heads about it.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 08/10/2023 20:57

I think the game today shows how different it could have been if Saliba hadn't been injured for so much of last season. Haaland didn't get out of his pocket all match.

But it also shows how much you need a full squad to cope with a whole season.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 08/10/2023 21:57

Yes, we need another Saliba.

Really didn't expect to win today. I was hoping that we might before the match but didn't think that there was any chance after the first half.

What on earth was Raya doing with those risky passes in the first half? Once is forgivable, but he did the same thing several times and we were so lucky not to concede.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 08/10/2023 22:36

Raya was giving me heart palpitations! I was expecting to lose before the game, and even to lose to a late dodgy penalty or something after the way it was being refereed. But we won in spite of that, so let's celebrate!

And credit to Gabriel as well, he was also awesome, but it was Saliba who marshalled Haaland.

What do people think about the UK and Ireland hosting the Men's Euros?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67062742

I think it could be quite successful. Apparently they have included the new Everton stadium on the list of venues @DuncinToffee. They need to build (or rebuild) a stadium in Northern Ireland too.

UK and Ireland confirmed as Euro 2028 hosts

The UK and Republic of Ireland will host the 2028 European Championship, Uefa confirms at a meeting in Switzerland.

DuncinToffee · 10/10/2023 18:52

Very excited about it.

I had just started working in England during the Euros 96 and the 4-1 was hard to take Grin

Hopefully it’ll be fab, great that some games will be held at SJP as well.

nettie434 · 10/10/2023 20:12

Yes, they have done well at making sure that there will be a good geographical spread. SJP is busy now with European and international football! I have heard that the Aviva stadium in Dublin is excellent, although it's mainly used for rugby. The Principality stadium always seems to have a great atmosphere for Cymru games. I wonder if they will do the same as with the Women's Euros and have 'home' stadiums for different countries. I thought that worked quite well.

AndNobbyDancing · 10/10/2023 23:06

Iraola linked to Seville seems to be welcomed by fans but then they didn't want O'Neil to go

Sheffield Wednesday Nil official name gave me a wry smile.

Not completly football related but whoever at at Norwich came up with the idea for the video they put out for mental health..wow

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 16/10/2023 11:52

Absolutely! That was powerful.

Thanks so much for mentioning this. I have just watched it now. It's incredibly powerful and a very clever way of getting the message about suicide across. It actually made me cry.

Apparently it was just the Norwich City in house team working with Samaritans, not a specialist content creator.
