Football is back and so are the fans ⚽

As in previous years, footy fans please sign in with

  1. Which team you support.
  2. Which team(s) you loathe.
  3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
  4. A thought on this season (Premiership/Championship/Champions’ League/FA Cup/Any leagues world wide)

Just caught up (saw most of the Tottenham game but moved to the rugby) I agree, do not understand the penalty/handball rule.

Was proud of football today 🇺🇦

HannibalHeyes · 27/02/2022 01:57

That was a blatant handball. If that was Xhaka he'd have had a red!

Blatant bias.

burblish · 27/02/2022 10:24

I agree, the handball rule or, at least, the way in which it is supposedly applied, is utterly incomprehensible. There was a similar one a few weeks ago with this whole bizarre red/green part of the arm thing - I can’t remember now which match it was in. Again, the penalty wasn’t given even though the ball struck the upper part of the arm (the fabled bit that would be covered by a tshirt sleeve!) and nobody (except, I guess, the ref and VAR ref!) could understand why. Common sense just doesn’t seem to be a thing with this!

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2022 10:34

Refereeing levels have been shocking this season once again.

Will there be any English referees at the World Cup?

Bielsa has been let go by Leeds

Oh I am laughing at the cup final. I don't like the goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who wouldn't come off for Sarri. Then he was bought on today. How offensive is that? Then he fluffs it. Ha ha.

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2022 19:41

YesI had to laugh as well.

I enjoy penalty shoot outs as a neutral.

Being a football fan really isn’t good for your health - watching the Carabao Cup shootout has left me a bag of shredded nerves! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a shootout with as many quality pens as that one. Incredible!

Completely agree @Oblomov22 - so pleased to see him miss that penalty! Was so annoyed when they brought him on today!
burblish · 27/02/2022 19:59

@Oblomov22 - yes, the choice of goalkeepers both to start and to finish the match demonstrated a massive contrast in approach between Tuchel and Klopp. On the one hand, Tuchel was very clear in the build up that he doesn’t allow sentiment to influence player selection (and I certainly don’t criticise him for that at all), but it does look like an another masterstroke of man management by Klopp.

FIFA/UEFA suspend Russian clubs and national teams from all competitions.

So I'm sure we're all expecting Mikel Arteta's phone to be ringing in 3 2 1...

DuncinToffee · 01/03/2022 13:19

There should be quite a few phones ringing.

I am glad the club made the complaint, not that it changes anything but it needs calling out and Everton have played nice long enough.

I have to give it to Lampard, he seems to have changed something within in the club and fans.

OP posts:
burblish · 01/03/2022 17:50

@DuncinToffee - good on Lampard for rightfully not letting this one lie. It was a shockingly poor decision.

HannibalHeyes · 01/03/2022 18:30

I agree, good on Lampard. But what do you think would have happened had Arteta made the complaint? I can guarantee you he wouldn't have got an apology, more likely a fine or something.

burblish · 01/03/2022 19:02

@HannibalHeyes - poor Arteta would likely have got a red card!

DuncinToffee · 01/03/2022 19:38

Ashley Cole got a yellow after the match for complaining. I don't know if it was because he is Lampard but I am surprised we got the apology.

HannibalHeyes · 01/03/2022 19:45

And I guess it's this Mike Riley, after all...

DuncinToffee · 01/03/2022 20:13

And they call us bitter Grin

Just don't mention Collina

OP posts:
YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 01/03/2022 21:07

Funnily enough, I don't remember Arsenal ever losing when Collina was ref!

AndNobbyDancing · 03/03/2022 20:51

Sorry Dunc I'm cheering Boreham Wood.

DuncinToffee · 03/03/2022 22:07

No probs Grin

AndNobbyDancing · 03/03/2022 22:12

Not with that score line Smile little Nobbys were very sad about the Tottenham result, had hoped the Everton score would have tempered that. Ah well.

DuncinToffee · 03/03/2022 22:17

Sorry little Nobbys.

I however loved the Middlesbrough game, it felt like watching a 90s team. They were tough
