What an utterly wonderful example of a human he is.

What a brilliant young man and a fantastic example for kids today.

To all the racists out there trying to tear him down. Fuck you.

He's fabulous. What an inspiration for all of us and what a great role model for our kids. He is an absolute credit to this country and to the game as a whole. I hope his mum is bursting with pride.

Snooks1971 · 12/07/2021 22:57

@WrongKindOfFace

He’s a cracking young man.

And has more talent and dignity in his little toe than the racist scum could hope to possess in their entire lifetimes.

Well said and very true!
RumblyMumbly · 12/07/2021 22:59

Humble, honest, brave & talented. My god that boy deserves to wear those lions. I want my children to follow in his footsteps never in those of his detractors.

Blacktothepink · 12/07/2021 23:09

A fantastic role model for the young ♥️

Grimacingfrog · 12/07/2021 23:14

Heartbreaking and encouraging in equal measure. How could anyone be proud of those thugs fighting at Wembley? Or those racist pigs who have been tweeting abhorrent messages. Marcus stands head and shoulders above them.

lolacola77 · 12/07/2021 23:18

I think this is getting ridiculous now. He's a decent chap but shouldn't everyone be? I'm sick of people getting a sainthood for not being shits! England lost the football because they weren't good enough and the penalties were shite. Why are they getting exhalted for not doing their job well enough?

Livelovebehappy · 12/07/2021 23:21

Brilliant role model for young boys.

Probably because they're doing a better job at looking after people than those whose actual job it is to run the country? Perhaps because they gave the country hope? Perhaps because one can contrast their behaviour off the pitch with the behaviour of others - 'fans', politicians, nasty social media trolls? You can take your pick. Or just post a snidey negative comment on here.
GrealishHairband · 12/07/2021 23:25

Seriously @lolacola77? You can’t see why he is getting this praise? When he is subjected to vile racist abuse for having a bad day at the office? And in response to that he apologises and promises to do better, while at the same time being unapologetically himself.

He’s decent, humble and selfless. An excellent role model for children and more than a few adults could learn a thing or two from him about kindness, humility and generosity.

He deserves all of the plaudits and more. I can’t say enough great things about him.

I'm sick of people getting a sainthood for not being shits...Why are they getting exhalted for not doing their job well enough?

Do you know much about Rashford's efforts to make sure children don't go hungry? That every child has a book in the house? His cookbook collab for people with few cooking skills and even less money?

He uses his platform for bravery, compassion and to help others. He deserves every single bit of respect he's getting.

@TeardropsFallingOnHotSand

It’s all about leadership. Something wonderful is happening to that team and it’s reverberating around the whole lot of them. Strangely, it’s not Southgate, it’s all of them. All are leaders.
I'm Irish, so dont really have a right to an opinion. But that doesn't stop anyone on MN Grin.

I think it's that Southgate is a true leader, who facilitates the best in people working with him. He doesn't need to be out front taking any glory. In fact, he supported the young guys who missed saying that it was his choice and any "blame" rests on him.

That's leadership....it's not pontificating, or showboating (such as zip lining around the Olympics). It's solid emotional intelligence, combined with honesty, hard work, and bravery.

England has a team to have pride in, without a doubt.

IheartJKR · 12/07/2021 23:29

I just luffs him ♥️

Total mum crush

Most ignorant remark of the day on mumsnet.

Well done.

Have a carrot! 🥕

.
Hmm

Fuck me sideways. I have read some ignorant, narrow-minded shit on here, but this takes the biscuit!

@ILoveYou3000

He's truly amazing isn't he? I love how while the racist twats couldn't go any lower, Marcus has gone high. A true role model.

Absolutely. He's amazing. Such grace. ❤️

Ghosttile · 12/07/2021 23:36

For those who are in a position to donate money, this is the food redistribution charity he has worked with, that will be helping to ensure children are fed over the summer holidays

fareshare.org.uk/

If you can donate money or groceries, The Trussell Trust have food banks all over the place.

www.trusselltrust.org/

Or google for independent food banks in your area.

It would be nice if something good came out of all this hate.

People are rallying more today in the face of the hideous racist abuse those players just suffered for doing their job in the spotlight. Which highlights that racism IS an issue that needs addressing despite the Government's race report and minimising of Black Lives Matter.

Rashford said himself his penalty wasn't good. What you are seeing today is people wanting to stand against racism and support our own players - who did bloody well in a tournament - that is a good thing.

ExhaustedFlamingo · 12/07/2021 23:40

I’m a cynical old football fan and thought you were probably being a bit sappy OP. Read Rashford’s post and now I have leaky eyes too. Goddamnit.

This young man is amazing. His emotional honesty, sense of community, compassion and general moral code is just so bloody refreshing in times like these. He genuinely uses his platform and his privilege to make a difference and to positively influence the world.

I believe that the racist twats are just a loud minority - and that the vast majority of us, regardless of our colour, are 100% behind Rashford and co. I really hope he feels how much love there is for him.

lolacola77 · 12/07/2021 23:41

Bread and circuses

ExhaustedFlamingo · 12/07/2021 23:43

Just going to add…..just because I believe racist twats are a minority doesn’t mean we shrug and let it go. It just means we are making progress and hopefully the stronger we stand against them, the more quickly they’ll fall. Lots yet to do but there’s more of us than there are of them.

I am in awe of the depth of your response.
Marmaladeagain · 12/07/2021 23:59

Rashford isn't implying he is a saint - he strips away the poor penalty from the racist abuse - showing his maturity. He isn't saying he's above criticism for his play. Well done to him on all counts.

On LBC - Iain Dale - I heard that 60-70% of the abuse on SM was deemed to be from people that will never have ever had anything to do with football and generated from abroad (have to take the word of how police access this info as they're not going to share). Also said that there were a few people identified in UK and serious consequences of job loss will follow as the evidence is there - they also said the anonymity should be dealt with by SM accounts.

You are spectacularly missing the point. Supporters are well aware they lost and those young players bottled the penalties. The players themselves know they bottled them. We are supporting them because they don't deserve racist abuse for doing their job when representing their country. They are fine sportsmen and have done better than teams for years while conducting themselves with dignity.

I actually think you are trying to wind people up with your posts.

colouringindoors · 13/07/2021 00:15

He's fantastic.

And those letters from kids omg ❤❤❤

Then I went to Amazon and bought his book for kids. It's now their bestselling non fiction. Just a small way of saying f you to all the haters.

colouringindoors · 13/07/2021 00:18

My sons year 2 class all wrote a letter to the England team today and the teacher posted them all off after school, I hope they get to see them and the innocent feedback and support makes them smile.

Oh how brilliant. Well done that teacher.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 13/07/2021 00:51

@Warmduscher Grin

Rashford had a bad day at work. He knows he did, we all have them. For most of us, all we have to do is send an email to the boss saying 'think I messed up on this.' What we don't all have is knowing that millions of people have seen our bad day, we will be criticised across all forms of media, and a minority will hurl racist abuse at us for it. His reaction says everything about the person he is, and has shown himself to be outside of his job.
