Anyone going to Wimbledon 2021?

I’m v excited, as managed to get tickets in the 2nd lot of tickets which were made available in Fri.

I’ve got one of the lesser show courts.

Haven’t been for 20 years, but wondering if anyone has been recently and can comment on whether it’s worth getting the official advance car parking and anything else worth doing in advance.

Realise we’ve been lucky to eat the tickets. Was v frustrated on Thursday when despite having the special code, we didn’t manage to get anything, and was just lucky to be online when the email saying another load were released came out on Fri.

Going on the first Friday so day 5. What sort of thing might I get to see on lesser show courts at that point tournamandt?

I'm going on the first Thursday - Centre Court. It's such a great day out that it doesn't really matter who you get to see! I think the atmosphere this year will be great.

I don't know about parking - I get the train!

WombatChocolate · 20/06/2021 21:26

Wow! Centre Court - sounds great. That’s probably Ladies singles on Day 4 isn’t it?

Yes, I’m just looking forward to a great day out with our tickets....don’t mind who we see.

Me! I can't help with the parking as I go by train (and usually do the Queue), but can help with what you might see. Day 5 is the first day of the 3rd round (assuming there haven't been too many rain delays), and there should be a mix of ladies' and men's singles matches. On a lesser show court you may see some of the lower seeded players. The doubles will have started by then too, so you'll probably see some doubles too (as long as the singles matches don't last too long). What court are you on?

WombatChocolate · 20/06/2021 21:56

Court 12.

Having had the difficulties getting tickets the day before, I went for something that I thought wouldn’t be quite so popular, hoping to get something. I’d have been equally happy with a Grounds Pass and assume a ticket for Court 12 includes the non-ticketed courts.

They were selling for Centre, No1,2,3,12,18 so more are ticketed than recently. I hope everyone is still free to go onto all the other courts too even if they don’t have a Grounds Pass. Things might be a bit different this year??

I would assume that all show court ticket holders would have access to the non-ticketed courts as that is how it usually works, but as you say things may be different this year. The other courts have only a small number of seats, or even just benches, so I guess they could have someone monitoring how many people are on each court, and making sure it doesn't go over the limit.

I think they are selling fewer ground passes than usual so in theory there should be plenty of room on the outside courts and around the grounds.

I'm so excited, I do love the queue experience and it will be weird not queuing, not spending the night in a tent and not waking up at 5.30 am, but it will also be nice to be able to wake up at a normal time and be clean and showered! I apply in the public and LTA ballots every year but have only been rarely successful, so it's a treat to have tickets without queuing.

WombatChocolate · 21/06/2021 17:41

Richard, which court have you got tickets for?

I’m thinking of going for the parking just to give more flexibility for getting home really....it’s not a long journey for me - prob 30 mins, but I wonder if the traffic getting out of car parks is bad....hopefully staggered so not too awful. It’s expensive to park - £30, but if you need to pay the extra £5 for the shuttle bus from Wimbledon train station, by the time you’ve paid for 2 adult tube/train tickets and the shuttle, it’s not far off £30 anyway!

OP posts:
RichardMarxisinnocent · 21/06/2021 23:50

I have no 1 court on the second Wednesday - decided I had more chance of no 1 court than Centre when choosing which day/Court to try for.

I do usually get the shuttle bus as I usually have camping equipment and am exhausted so can't face any walking, but the times I have been with ballot tickets I have walked to Southfields tube at the end of the day. From memory it's about 10 minutes walk and probably faster than waiting for the bus then travelling slowly in traffic.

daisyducky · 22/06/2021 09:25

Had anyone had their tickets through yet?

I've had nothing since I secured the tickets on Thursday and received an email from ticketmaster.

The money has been taken from our AMEX.

It's been on the bbc news about people having their tickets rejected because of using the same card for numerous purchases.

WombatChocolate · 23/06/2021 07:20

No sign of tickets.
Must say the comms are not that clear. There is reference to an App and so I downloaded what I thought was it, but turned out to be the 2019 app and looks like 2021 one isn’t available yet. However, that wasn’t made clear when booking.

When I go into MyWimbledon, many of the options appear not to be functional yet. They are cutting it fine and nit making clear what the timescales are for having access to different things. I’d thought tickets would be sent in 21st, but that has passed now.

Given there’s a lot to do in terms of ensuring you’re compliant to get in…downloading app, accessing tickets and putting onto phone, sharing with person you’re going with…it makes people a bit anxious about getting it all done to avoid being turned away. Then there’s the people who’ve had tickets cancelled due to using a credit card twice. There seem to be so many hurdles to fall at. Better, clearer comms would have helped a lot.

Hope someone from Wimbledon is reading this. The mood doesn’t seem so positive which is a shame because this year is an opportunity for lots of different people to go who couldn’t usually get tickets by real life queuing.

Anyone had tickets yet? We go Monday so getting a bit nervous now.

daisyducky · 24/06/2021 15:52

Still no tickets here but we have men's final so luckily still have time.

Monday is certainly cutting it fine especially if people have travel to book, hotels, etc! Or have a cancellation time frame...

The only comms I have had so far came last night in terms of more details about covid and having a guide to the covid pass required. It was quite detailed!

daisyducky · 24/06/2021 15:57

Also, I've had the app for years, they only update it right before the tournament starts.

Tickets are meant to be under 'manage benefits' I believe but nothing is showing there yet

Queenoftheashes · 24/06/2021 16:05

I will be walking but I will say I generally don’t use my car during Wimbledon fortnight as the traffic is so bad. I’d just get the normal £1.50 bus from Wimbledon train station or walk from there or Southfields tube.
However I do have a low tolerance for traffic jams so you may find it acceptable.

SunshineCake · 24/06/2021 16:07

DH and I are going. Not much planning went on as I took a while to work out the code. First time going. Very nervous.

Shitzngiggles · 24/06/2021 16:18

@daisyducky yes I had that email as well. Lots of info about what you need to do but no means of doing it! We've booked our car park space and that came today. Fingers crossed the tickets arrive soon.

WombatChocolate · 24/06/2021 19:30

I also got my car park pass today. Will be very cross if I’ve spent £30 to then not even go. However, I did ge there email last night from AELTC about the Covid pass which was addressed as ‘Dear Ticketholder’ so I remain hopeful, but just aware the organisation is rather shambolic.

Quite why something cannot be posted to advise ticket holders not to worry and that tickets will be released in X date, I do not know….unless there are all kinds of technical issues causing problems.

OP posts:
WombatChocolate · 24/06/2021 21:54

Just had another email from AELTC with useful info about tickets.

It says people should not expect access to tickets until approx 48 before the day they are visiting.

There is also lots of other info and a ‘Playbook’ of details about being at Wimbledon. It includes that access to Herman Hill will only be for Grounds Court ticket holders this year.

Anyway, another email is a good sign they will be expecting me and at least they have now clarified when tickets can be expected….will stop frantically checking MyWimbledon now!

OP posts:
RichardMarxisinnocent · 24/06/2021 23:09

I have my tickets! I bought them in the LTA members sale, for the second week. LTA tickets seem to be being sent sooner than public sale ones.

daisyducky · 25/06/2021 06:09

Yep I've had my email as well saying tickets will be on the app 48 hours before!

WombatChocolate · 25/06/2021 14:37

I have now had an email which said my tickets were available.

I clicked on it and accepted the terms and conditions.

Then the tickets appeared in the MyWimbledon account.

Then I set a a MyWimbledon account for DH.

Then I went back into my own MyWimbledon account and shared the ticket with him.

Various emails came to us both saying the sharing was happening.

He had to accept the terms and conditions via an email link.

Then the ticket has appeared in his MyWimbledon account.

And the original email said we would be informed when the App was available and then our tickets could appear there. Actually, I was able to get the app several days ago and now my ticket is there too.

So, I am good to go.

Does seem extremely complicated and I’d imagine quite a few people will struggle with this and/or leave it to the last minute and then have some troubles. I’d imagine the people on the gate will encounter numerous people who haven’t accessed tickets in MyWimbledon or got them into the App, or are struggling to show their Covid status.

Hope everyone else’s are arriving now too and the excitement mounting.

OP posts:
WombatChocolate · 25/06/2021 14:39

Oh, and couldn’t see any set numbers on any of original stuff, but on one of the emails sent to DH is specified Section and seat number too.

Is H a decent row would you say? I’m sure I’ll be happy regardless to be honest.

OP posts:
daisyducky · 25/06/2021 17:17

Oh that's interesting! I must look through all our info & see what seats we got.

I've had front row seats before and back row and both were great experiences! Back row was centre court but front row was court 2 with serena Williams!

daisyducky · 25/06/2021 17:37

I've found the seating plan for CC and C1 online. It looks like they are in number blocks and the rows then I assume will be within that.

I couldn't see anything on our tickets of allocated seats

Anyone going to Wimbledon 2021?
Shitzngiggles · 25/06/2021 17:53

I've got tickets for court 12 on Monday but not showing any seat numbers. Never been this stressed about going to Wimbledon! It's usually so straightforward.

WombatChocolate · 25/06/2021 17:55

The only place my allocated seat was shown, was on the email my DH received after accepting the ticket I shared and accessing it on his MyWimbledon. Nothing showed on the ‘ticket’ on MyWimbledon or the App.

I’m not on Centre or No1 but No12, so don’t think there are any seating plans. However, I have seen some pics of the court and it looks like any more rows than H. I’m happy just to be going, and we get what we get, so no prob.
