Cricket -- England vs India

For cricket enthusiasts -- here is a thread to discuss the ongoing England-India cricket matches! It's great that live cricket is back on free-to-air television (Channel 4).

Thanks OP! Smile

Unfortunately, it looks like we are going to get absolutely hammered in this game. India will pile on the runs tomorrow and set us a target of 400+. The pitch is shockingly poor, with balls going through the top on the first day. Win the toss, win the game.

Hopefully, I will be buying my tickets for the Edgbaston test vs NZ this week. It’s always a great contest against the Black Caps, I’m really looking forward to it. Is anyone else going?

TitusPullo · 14/02/2021 20:54

Present! Agree about the pitch @Susie477, they may as well be playing on the beach behind the ground. I have tickets to England vs. India at the Oval in September if it goes ahead. They are tickets from last year rolled forward. Can’t wait, it’s been years since I’ve been.

Hello all! I have never actually been to a test match but used to watch plenty on sky sports until my partner died and i couldn't afford it any more. Swapped to Test Match Special and enjoyed bits of Sri Lanka v England. Imagine my annoyance when i woke up early one morning and thought - aha! test match is on in India - i will listen to TMS on my phone - and then i couldn't bloody find it! When i got up found it was on the normal telly - Hoorah (except for Nick Knight who i find a bit too smug). And I am v disappointed Bumrah is not playing in this game as I love to just shout out BUMRAH every now and then......

Star555 · 15/02/2021 16:09

Rightly predicted @Susie477... India really fought hard after lunch to set a target of 400+. Who knows, maybe Joe Root can still hold out and score a few centuries! Shouldn't get your hopes up completely...

Hello only just found this thread but I’ll be here during the next test.
I must admit I haven’t been getting up at 4am though.
I’m really missing TMS. Much more civilised than television for the early morning starts.

Star555 · 18/02/2021 15:58

@Cottagepieandpeas The next match will start at 9 am! (I think the final match in March will go back to 4 am though.)

That’s good news @Star555

In other good news, I’ve just got tickets for the EngvNZ at Lords in June. I think this is the most excited I’ve been for a year!
Really hoping it goes ahead (and doesn’t rain).

Cottagepieandpeas · 24/02/2021 13:35

Terrible start! I’ve been working since 9am so only been dipping in and out.

Star555 · 04/03/2021 05:11

@Cottagepieandpeas This last test isn't looking too good for England from the start either!

Another brilliant spell of bowling from Axar. Ok, he's being helped by the pitch and some pretty inept batting, but still. It's hard to believe it's only his 3rd test.

This new stadium is fabulous, and it's great to see spectators again.

MrWendel · 04/03/2021 06:50

I have found my people! Watching live (SE Asia timezone helps).

The last test finishing so early must have been mentally very difficult for the Eng team (and especially in a 'dry state' like Gujarat where they may not have been able to drown their sorrows immediately after...!).

Nice to see the ongoing stand between Bairstow and Stokes - much more like it.

I'm intrigued to see how this test pans out, and whether any poor performance on England's part is blamed wholly on the pitch (that said, I do think the Ahmedabad pitch and DRS should have been questioned).

Looking forward to seeing how Dom Bess performs after his break too.

MrWendel · 04/03/2021 06:51

Also, I was also wondering what has happened to TMS? I couldn't see it on BBC Sounds for the earlier tests.

MrWendel · 04/03/2021 06:55

I cursed Jonny with my comment Sad

Star555 · 06/03/2021 18:24

What a win for India! So that's that for the tests now. Let's hope for better performances in the upcoming T20s and ODIs against India. I requested MNHQ to change this thread's title to include all England-India matches, not just the tests. Hope to see more discussion for the limited-overs matches next!

Anyone watching the T20s?

OP posts:
TheBlackTower · 16/03/2021 16:34

Yes! It's 00:34 Weds morning here in SG and we're watching. Come on England!

Star555 · 20/03/2021 16:17

Last T20 of the series -- this is going to be a close one!

OP posts:
Cottagepieandpeas · 20/03/2021 16:56

Yes I’m watching. It was looking like it might be close but I don’t think there’s much hope now (speaking as an England supporter!)

Cottagepieandpeas · 26/03/2021 11:07

Watching the ODIs this week. I’m off work so perfect timing.
Anyone else?

lurker101 · 26/03/2021 11:10

Hi, I’ve found my people! India fan here, recording to watch after work 😊

TheBlackTower · 26/03/2021 11:24

Yes, I'm here Smile slightly stressing (as an Eng supporter) but you have to admire the bit shots India have managed so far.

Star555 · 28/03/2021 16:28

Final ODI (and final England India match until August!) not looking too good for England...

OP posts:
SquigglePigs · 28/03/2021 17:56

I really believed we were going to do it for a few overs. Curran gave it everything!

lurker101 · 28/03/2021 22:06

Fantastic match, we just finished watching the recording. Very well played England - especially Sam Curran!

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 30/03/2021 18:34

I hope this is not the last Test series to be on free to view tv for another 16 years.
