I’ve had this boil on my bum for months, it’s agony. I can’t sit down properly! It’s really making me miserable now. I’ve been to the gp multiple times, had multiple courses of antibiotics, the fucker won’t go. I’ve been referred for surgical removal but I’m waiting for a date. Today however it is red, angry and hot to touch. I swear I see a slight pimple head. Can I pop it?! I’m fucking done!!!

I would.

Mintoiy · 22/01/2025 20:26

I would too. Prick it with a pin and squeeze gently!

myplace · 22/01/2025 20:26

I’d give it another day and some hot compresses.

Capricornandproud · 22/01/2025 20:27

Someone with more sense will be along soon OP…. But I would!! I’d rather have the pressure release and deal with the fallout but I’m a sterilised needle and away we go type 🫣 I’m sure you’ll still need the hospital procedure etc and notify the doc to fully clear it. Have you got gauze, sterile dressings for it etc tho? Keen as I would be, I’d no way risk an infection and that is, ahem, a vulnerable area for that sort of thing…

Capricornandproud · 22/01/2025 20:28

Just seen the photo - I’d be bursting that bad boy.

bumboiled · 22/01/2025 20:35

I honestly can’t take it anymore, I’ve had it for 5 months. It stops being painful whenever I’m on antibiotics but as soon as I finish almost within 24 hours it’s angry and agony again. I’ve been on antibiotics for 6 weeks and they’re making me feel horrible and giving me repeated thrush. I’ve never had a boil before and I pray to god I never get one again if I ever manage to get rid of this fucking thing! It’s my nemesis.

I have had similar and it was because I was diabetic and didn't know it at the time, it was one of the reasons I asked to be tested because it bloody hurt, and it was on my labia majora 😖

Mum used to suffer with them and I remember her sitting in hot salt baths when they were ready to burst, and she would stab them with a needle. I keep a box of 16g medical needles just in case anything ever comes back, and if I've been unwell it tends to happen. It does help to do it in a bath so you can clean things up properly.

Pinkissmart · 22/01/2025 20:46

I would sit in a hot bath and hope it burst

myplace · 22/01/2025 20:49

If you are going to mess with it, pull the skin apart rather than pressing down. It increases the pressure without risking it bursting downwards.

You need to buy Magnesium Sulfate Paste. Honestly, it's amazing. Put it in with a dressing and it will do all the work for you.

LadyLolaRuben · 22/01/2025 20:50

Yes I'd be having hot baths/compress and gently squeezing around the sides to encourage it to come to the surface into a head. I'd be preparing to pop it with a sterilised needle in a few days

This was the name of the product I was going to suggest but couldn't recall. Gets a lot of recommendations on here

Notenoughtimeinaday · 22/01/2025 21:35

You prob shouldn't, but I totally would!

AlwaysLookOnTheSnarkSide · 22/01/2025 21:42

I would for sure.

dumpling123 · 22/01/2025 21:49

If you do, please video it!

LondonFox · 22/01/2025 22:09

Tbh by the size of red circle around it I would say it is quite big inflamed area (and your antibiotic story conforms it).
I'd pass squeezing as you can just add more bacteria to already shitshow area.
And I do love squeezing.

Ask for antibiotic creme if you had pills so far or vice versa.

I would ask to see a dermatologist. Could it be Hidradenitis? That's a chronic skin condition which causes boils that don't go away.

Workhardcryharder · 22/01/2025 22:57

5 months!!! You must be at the end of your tether!

Notgivenuphope · 22/01/2025 23:00

Please give us an update if you decide to pop it!!! I know I would!!!

Babyghirl · 22/01/2025 23:37

I would get a water bottle Gill it with hot water empty it suck the air out of the bottle and stick it over the boil and while the bottle fills up again it will suck out wats in the boil, I know how you feel I have had 8 surgeries to remove them from my knicker line.

Overtheatlantic · 22/01/2025 23:41

Magnesium sulphate will start to work overnight and provide tremendous relief.

NotVeryFunny · 23/01/2025 01:18

I get these occasionally. Hot baths, and regularly applied witch hazel liquid sualy sorts them. Maybe go all out and do some hot compresses also as it's so stubborn.

bumboiled · 23/01/2025 13:33

Phoned the doctors in tears after a night of agony, it’s the pressure it’s insanely painful and nothing eases it. They said to come in and have a look, they agreed there was a slight head now but said they couldn’t put a needle in it as it’s too deep. I asked about my referral to surgery how long I’ll be waiting and they said as much as it is painful it isn’t what the surgeons would deem large so they’d be very surprised if the hospital actually operates on it. I asked the doctor about magnesium sulphate paste and he said no it’s mainly for getting foreign objects out, but then I saw a pot in the pharmacy and it does say boils on it so I’ve bought one. I’ve just slathered a load on with a big plaster on top - now what?! I’m completely at the end of my tether. I can’t sit down or drive or anything comfortably, I’m yelping every few minutes! Thanks for whoever mentioned red flag for diabetes, I raised that and they did a finger prick test and urine test and said although not definitive there’s no markers for diabetes and no other symptoms so very unlikely to be that. Glad to have had it checked though.
