I think I have a cyst on top of my cyst (pics)

So I’ve had a fairly standard pilar cyst slowly growing on my head for a few years now. About six months ago it got a tiny lump on top of the main cyst and a couple of days ago that smaller lump got bigger, hotter and squishy. The main cyst has stayed rock solid- the pics don’t really do that part justice as it’s the same colour as my scalp but it’s about four fingers wide.

DH has kindly agreed to have a go on the upper cyst with a sterilised needle later to relieve the pressure as it’s getting quite sore. Will update!

in desperation I once got a sterile syringe and partially drained a cyst on my head. I do not recommend, but the wait for proper removal was far too long relative to the pain and poking with a needle did not work.

Carbuncle? You may need antibiotics . I still have a dent in my arm from one I had at 17 - 45 years ago . It was fabulous when it burst.

Don't you think you ought to get a GP to look at that?

I have submitted an e consult but no reason we can’t all enjoy ourselves in the meantime

Sorry I've just realised this is in sporner corner 😅 I'll bow out and let you have your fun but not sure I'd recommend digging around in that - it's easy to spread infection on your scalp.

I had a very similar looking beast on my scalp last year. It got hot and tender so I gave it light squeeze and LOADS squirted out onto my hand. Imagine drawing a large 'S' with toothpaste over the back of your hand ....that's how much came out. It kept giving for a week after. It truly was a gift. It's gone completely now.

Bit of a disappointing update I’m afraid- DH bravely had a go but only got small spurts of pus and blood and then chickened out. I suspect the needle holes were too small and it really needs a bigger one. Still sore and doesn’t feel like the pressure has been relieved at all!

Going to continue with hot compresses in the hope it comes to a bit more of a head and await a doctors appointment. Failing that DH has mentioned a scalpel?!

What happened?

I’ve just had two pilar cysts removed from my scalp. It was a much bigger job than I’d thought going in, several stitches for each one and I was in theatre for an hour. Based on my experience, I’d let the professionals at it or you could make it a right mess!

I feel your pain when your dh just isn’t committed enough in the digging about. Dh was always like that with one on the back of my neck, very frustrating!
