Painful lump in groin area

I thought I had a spot down below but as the day has gone on the pain from
whatever this is is driving me mad.

It's located in the crease underneath in between a flap and buttock!

There's a very hard lump about the size of a kidney bean and it's throbbing.

Please tell me I don't need to see a GP and I'm just being ott!

I had something very similar to this just after I had my baby. I was too embarrassed to mention it to my midwife though. It disappeared after about a week x

brownsuede · 24/06/2024 18:00

The picture isn't the greatest. I'm going to have a hot bath shortly and put some sudocrem on in the hope it helps. It's so painful, I have had to get undressed already and take my knickers off! The elastic that goes round underneath has been rubbing on it all day.

Likely it's a bartholins cyst.

Keep soaking in a bath and see a doctor if it continues or gets more painful. They can turn into an abscess.

Sometimes hair follicles /ingrowing hairs can cause similar.

fieldsofbutterflies · 24/06/2024 18:28

I was going to say Bartholin's Cyst too - they're normal but can be really painful.

I thought a Bartholins cyst was inside? I'm completely clueless. It throbs like a bitch though.
I did wonder if it was an in growing hair as I do shave down there.

Slightly better pic. I'm currently in a bath with Epsom salts hoping that helps. Because of where it is everything is irritating it no matter how I sit, stand and my knickers are just rubbing against the area and aggravating it more.

Mine was on the lower part of my “lips” on the inside and hurt like a bitch too. I googled it and it can’t back as that cyst thing people are mentioning. It used to kinda throb and sting as well x

CommeUneVacheEspagnole · 24/06/2024 21:47

I'm not medically knowledgeable in any way but it's red and angry. I'd be salt watering it for a day or so.

It looks like a new infection, a knicker cut that's aggravated or a dodgy hair root. Or one of these cysts obviously.

brownsuede · 24/06/2024 21:50

I've had a bath with Epsom salts and had a hot flannel on the area. I shaved yesterday or possibly this morning. It started this morning though.
Tomorrow if it's no better I'll attempt to get a gp appointment and I am going to hunt down magnesium sulphate paste.

Not sure it's Bartholins where it is. Could be a hair follicle.

I'm not sure either as it's more on the crease towards my bum. I can't even describe where it is properly!

I had exactly this op!! I kept up the hot baths with Epsom salts, and I would also bathe it for a few minutes about 2-3 times a day with a hot flannel to drain it. Eventually it did drain and within about 10-14 days it had completely gone.
Mine was also painful and felt like a hard little pebble under the skin, in the same area as yours. A quick google put my mind at ease it was the Bartholins cyst. It'll go op x

sal222322 · 25/06/2024 09:16

I have this right now. I keep applying a hot flannel to it and it has come up. But still there

brownsuede · 25/06/2024 16:12

Hot flannel is going on again soon it's no bigger today but angrier looking and has a red spot appearing. It doesn't feel as painful today as yesterday but it's still sore.

What do we think is it going to pop soon?

Oh wow. Have you just been applying a hot flannel. If so how often

brownsuede · 26/06/2024 14:50

Yes I've been applying a hot flannel a few times a day.

It's a really hard lump underneath though and it's bloody painful.

OP posts:
sal222322 · 26/06/2024 14:53

Yeah that's what mine feels like. I feel like mine has gone bigger in size since applying a hot flannel

RagzRebooted · 26/06/2024 14:54

Hopefully it will burst soon and you'll feel some relief. Carry on with the hot flannels and when it bursts clean it with salt water and keep it covered.
I see these at work when they haven't had this treatment (or it hasn't worked) and have had to be surgically drained, you want to avoid that (and it looks like you will). If the red area gets bigger or it doesn't burst, you may need antibiotics.

brownsuede · 26/06/2024 14:57

I've tried to burst it but it's having non of it. The redness isn't getting worse but it's bloody painful still.

Had to go to the GP and I've been prescribed Flucloxacillin. It's throbbing like mad after being prodded and squeezed. I'm praying it bursts on its own and the antibiotics work because I'm petrified of hospitals and really don't want to end up there. I went to the chemist and the pharmacist recommended applying savlon as they didn't have mag sulphate paste.

I had that antibiotic - should work. I had a boil under my arm and eight spiral ingrown hairs popped out. Just leave it alone and let the drugs work

brownsuede · 26/06/2024 19:55

I had to have the same meds a few years ago as I kept getting an infected cyst under my armpit. If I remember correctly the meds did help and it burst. Unfortunately the hot weather and location of this bad boy is not pleasant at all. Hot flannels and baths are not something I want to do right now!
