Painful lump in groin area

I thought I had a spot down below but as the day has gone on the pain from
whatever this is is driving me mad.

It's located in the crease underneath in between a flap and buttock!

There's a very hard lump about the size of a kidney bean and it's throbbing.

Please tell me I don't need to see a GP and I'm just being ott!

Fucking hell

I don't recommend it but I'd be stabbing that bad boy with a pin

TiddlyCove · 26/06/2024 20:12

Look on the bright side, it will be amazing when it bursts, you'll have a flood of glorious, glorious pus.

brownsuede · 26/06/2024 20:19

It's burst!!! 🥳
Got out the bath had a little look and gave it a squeeze and yellow pus is coming out, not as much as I expected but the throbbing has stopped!!

I’m pretty sure thats this https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/hidradenitis-suppurativa/
especially if you’ve had one before.

Thankyou, That's interesting to read, I used to regularly get a cyst under my armpit that would always result in needing antibiotics. That link also says it can be linked to hormones and I am peri menopausal so.....

Had to go to the GP and I've been prescribed Flucloxacillin. It's throbbing like mad after being prodded and squeezed. I'm praying it bursts on its own and the antibiotics work because I'm petrified of hospitals and really don't want to end up there. I went to the chemist and the pharmacist recommended applying savlon as they didn't have mag sulphate paste.

That antibiotic put DH in hospital for a couple of weeks with liver failure. It's an uncommon side effect but a very nasty one. https://bpspubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1365-2125.2005.02370.x

Your poor DH how unlucky I hope ihes on the mend

Quick question - do I need to carry on taking antibiotics. There's no swelling or pain. I took them yesterday and today. I am wondering whether I can chance not taking anymore aside from them making me feel sick I don't want to take antibiotics if I don't really need to.

Yes you do. You need to finish the course to completely eradicate the infection and so that the bacteria doesn't become immune to the drugs.

HughsMermaid · 27/06/2024 20:59

I do hope you are feeling better and that you are able to move around without discomfort now OP. It looked sore.

brownsuede · 27/06/2024 21:31

I will finish the course. I've just had another look and there is still quite a lump even though it's not painful. So hopefully the antibiotics will help that go.

I can walk normally now which is great, still can't wear underwear though as the elastic rubs in the exact spot underneath where the swelling was.

Well I think you'll have to go commando until you've recovered!

I'm sure the antibiotics will shrink the underlying lump and heal it all up.

At least you weren't on holiday.

I've managed to wear knickers today with no soreness!!
The tablets however are kicking my arse, I've got burning in my stomach, I'm a little constipated and nausea. I'll be so glad when I've finished the course.

If your wee starts to go very dark stop taking them or ring your doctor please.

brownsuede · 28/06/2024 19:55

My wee is normal at the moment. I must admit I'm a little paranoid after reading your post.

Well as I said some posts above the side effect that DH had is very rare (just 1 in 12000) but that was the first symptom. His wee went brown before I carted him off to the A and E. Of course they assumed he was an alcoholic - they were baffled when they found he wasn't.
Sorry, I shouldn't have mentioned this. DD has had this antibiotic since and was fine though we were on tenterhooks 🙁

I have read it is a rare side effect. I'm pretty sure I've been prescribed these before for an infected cyst in another area a few years ago and obviously was ok on them. My wee is a completely normal colour though. Was your DH on them a long time? I've read this reaction is common when they are prescribed for longer than a two week period.

They are quite a brutal medication I can taste them for ages after taking one, my stomach is sooo bloated and gassy. The nausea comes and goes but my whole stomach just hurts. I'll be glad to stop taking them. Which reminds me next dose is due now 😩

Have messaged you. I'd suggest getting in touch with your doctor anyhow. Doesn't sound like what DH had but the antibiotic obviously doesn't agree with you and maybe they can give you an alternative?

brownsuede · 19/08/2024 12:50

I think the cyst is returning 😱 I'm hoping to get antibiotics from the gp
Before it gets too bad!! I can't feel a lump at the moment but I'm sore in exactly the same area again!!!

I'm going to be on the phone first thing in the morning asking for some. There is no visible lump or spot there like last time but it's feeling sore.

In fact I'm going to put in an online request in the hope it gets seen by tomorrow
