Infected Cyst (with pictures)

I thought you’d all enjoy seeing some close up pictures of my infected sebaceous cyst.
On antibiotics which I started yesterday and waiting for it to be less painful so I can cut the top and squeeze if it doesn’t start to drain itself.
Hurts when I take tops on and off and lie down or sit in certain positions! Very frustrating !!
First photo is today and second is yesterday so it looks like it’s getting angrier !

Its not recommended to squeeze these types of cysts

That’s going to go off like Vesuvius if you try sticking something in it. Careful you don’t spread the infection.

Ooh I didn’t know you shouldn’t squeeze these thank you! I just want it out of me, the thought of all this pus draining back into me makes me feel so icky

If you try to squeeze out, the infection can go inside instead

I had one, had 3 lots of antibiotics, it didnt break, just shrunk and stopped hurting
Still have a small lump there though

Soak in a warm bath or apply warm compresses, then put on an Epsom salt poultice.

This will dry it out from the inside.

It looks wonderful very painful OP! But on a serious note, I do sympathises with you. I hope it heals soon.

It’s a bit less painful and seems less yellow today? Strange textures when i prod it and still very red around it! Why won’t it burst (I will of course get photos if I can)

It popped! I had a fun few minutes squeezing it all out, does anyone know what to expect to happen now?

Not an expert, but just advising what I would do. Keep it clean and covered with a dressing/plaster. You may want to put some antiseptic on it to keep it clean. It will continue to drain over the next few days, so best to keep it covered until it heals.

If the sac is still there, it'll grow back. Also risk of infection so smother that in savlon and keep it covered

Warm salt water, will kill all the bacteria and ensure the site is clean.

I had one last year under my boob, it was really sore and I kept putting hot compress on it. Eventually the cyst popped into the hot compress. I go anti biotic from gp and kept area clean (easier at front rather than back) but the sac is still in there (gp said they don't remove) and its just a white small spot with bruising round which has faded but still visible faintly - nothing further has happened 12 months later.

Envy you! I had one like that in 2008 - best evening of my life when I lanced it and squeezed it all out.

my daughter has this cut is it infected or could it be another round of cellulitis? she got the injury a week ago and it has barely scabbed and has yellow junk coming from inside, the skin around is red, tender and hot to the touch

That doesn’t look good. I would have that looked at as soon as possible.

@tennmumma looks like your daughter might have an allergy to the plaster / dressing that was on this. Best get the GP to look at it.
